Truckers' secret to fuel efficiency: take it easy
ranchhopper replied to kscarbel2's topic in Trucking News
Must be why all the freight trucks around here wont go over 45 in 55 speed zones pretty irritating when the rest of us need to go 55 on the two lane to get our job done for the day. -
That's why I had to find the right truck for this after selling my military truck.
-
This truck will most likely do the mchenry county marine corps toys for tots run too.
-
They cleared all the traffic off state street and we never stopped for a light they had all the streets blocked almost to congress.
-
I am in the middle of disassembling my parts truck it has mack axles with walking beam suspension I am going to pull the carriers, hubs, brake assemblies and scrap the banjos I notices the walking beams are aluminum as well is there any demand for aluminum walking beams or are they just scrap too. I noticed there is an air actuated power divider unit as well that will be put up in the classifieds if its worth anything most parts I can keep for my truck they are pretty much the same. Last we get to the engine it runs but smokes its a 237 I was going to pull the IP, heads, harmonic balancer, turbo and both manifolds, alternator, oil pan, power steering pump, it has a new starter, water pump and fan and scrap the rest I really don't have storage space so keeping the thing intact isn't really an option. I really think the engine could use a rebuild the 237 is pretty common so is scrapping the block and internals a bad idea or not?

It was fun I only venture into the city once a year and its to do this parade then hurry back out.

That 920 military tractor belongs to a friend of mine he came over last week to get those poles his flags are on he is coming over this weekend to get the fifth wheel off my parts truck. That was a huge parade it took two hours just to get moving there were a huge amount of people there the sidewalks and yards were full of people. -
Isnt it a wonder we all lived through the BB gun, wrist rocket, fire cracker, monkey bar and fast car ages we went through and all with no warning labels and with the parents saying have fun as we went outside to run around. I really feel sorry for the generation of pansy asses being raised up now unless your out in the sticks none of the things we had to pass our time with is acceptable now let your kid sit outside with the 22 rifle and plink cans like we did in our back yard and the neighbors would have the SWAT team there in minutes times have changes and definitely not for the better.

Yes TV is pretty far away not up close and personal I would have gone out to maggios this Saturday but couldn't afford to give up eight hours of OT which I will have to do when I do the parade next Saturday.
-
That's the downside of having a shiny truck when I was using military trucks in parades I never had to wash them the flat paint never showed the dust this truck shows every grain of dirt.
-
Its official the USO wants the RS to be their official vehicle in the Chicago memorial day parade next Saturday we will be on TV as its televised every year. My friends in the military vehicle club will be there as well the USO gets them out there every year my truck will carry the USO volunteers in back on the troop seats. Every year when I did this parade with my military truck family would tape it for us to watch later after we got home. It is always fun going down state street with people spilling out all over the street and trying to stay in even formation with the truck next to you.

The town next to me imposed weight restrictions on all the roads the restaurant in town went under they depended on the income from the truck drivers coming in for breakfast. Now for the stupid award of the day they can no longer hang their wash outside on a line to dry because its been deemed unsightly to the neighbors and not the image the village wants to project.

Very good we think alike.

I had thought of the antique plates like I have on my other truck but then I have to write a letter to the county explaining why its no longer a commercial vehicle then the states attorney has to determine if its no longer commercial. If its determined that its still a commercial vehicle then it puts the parking of my RS in my driveway at risk and believe me these people are vindictive you fight them and lose your problems have only began I was informed to park that truck on farm zoned property it needs to be licensed as a farm vehicle. Its amazing the farmer down the road who is also a county politician has a bunch of semis parked a half mile down the road from me he charges them by the month to rent space to park and they hit me up because of one semi tractor.

I cant figure it they plant our cornfields with foundations then these subdivision dwellers get elected to county and municipal offices then change the laws so we have to live in their canned style life and throw the good old style of living were used to away.

Well it happened already I have my parts truck sitting in the neighbors horse pasture next to the fence bordering the cemetery it was turned into the county now it has to be moved. You cannot see this truck from any roads unless you drive down the cemetery drive I believe its the neighboring village who turned us in that's how they operate they wont face you and come up with an equitable agreement with you just turn you in to the county and be done with it. The neighbor woman is 75 years old and I help her out a lot so she offered to let me park it there for free so Im not going to fight the county over it I would sell the truck whole less the radiator or I may just part it out its a 73 RS600L with an aluminum frame I have a title for it if I do part it out I would sell the frame with the VIN tag and title. The thing runs and drives but the cab is shot and hood is pretty bad too it sits on walking beam suspension I believe the walking beams are aluminum has a good set of tires fronts are 1100X24.5s Im keeping the rears they are 1100X22.5s if it gets parted all the budd hubs are spoken for it has a good air sliding fifth wheel, aluminum battery boxes covers have been sold, engine, trans has power steering run off the rear of the air compressor, heavy front axle beam all springs and axle housings less the carriers are going to go to the scrappers. Aluminum frame will probably go to the scrappers with the walking beams too has some good gauges left in the cab I bought this truck strictly for the parts everything is the same as my RS really don't want to get rid of any of it but working six ten hour days limits my time to tear it down I was going to do it at my leisure during the summer the whiners always seem to ruin every bit of semi rural life we have left around here being in an unincorporated part of the county.

Those look like they would be pretty easy to cut out using a jig saw and some gold anodized aluminum I cut out my headlight bezels from aluminum diamond plate pretty easy. -

Im going to take off one of those 110 gallon tanks and put the fifty gallon off the parts truck on it so I can have room to put an aluminum diamond plate tool box under the cargo bed. -
