  1. My RS doesn't have power steering I couldn't imagine backing that into places I go with the R model I drive a work only because it takes so many turns of the wheel to steer it.
  2. The fifth wheel was pretty worn out but reinstalling one is as easy as swapping out eight nuts and bolts.
  3. I have gone this way restoring pre war packards by the time you bring it back from the dead you will have enough into it you could have bought one with minimal cash and achieved the same result unless you want the satisfaction of bringing something back from the dead. I have done it both ways and now that Im quite a bit older and somewhat wiser I choose the way of least resistance but its your money and time so choose whatever way you wish good luck.
  4. I have a line on the steel hardware for the troop seats I will machine some red oak slats for the back rests and seat bottoms I really wish I had a place to park inside. I could marine varnish the oak and leave it natural for a better look but parking outside the sun would destroy them in a season.
  5. The R model was doomed when they gave the EPA a bigger set of teeth and our younger generation doesn't want to drive a truck without being as big a a greyhound bus inside with every creature comfort they have in the extended mega cab pick ups they drive when I started you considered your self lucky if the truck had power steering.
  6. I hear ya with the speed bumps Im going to lower the tire pressure a bit since it will not be loaded down I will use the truck in the fall to haul firewood home from some of the farms I cut wood at so I will have to remember to air them up again. I was going to use diamond plate if I can find it at a decent price I have good aluminum sheets here that will polish up nice its just like what they make street signs with I think the truck will look good with the bed on it. I sectioned the bed to make it look good on a semi tractor it doesn't have the long overhang off the back its just long enough to put a nice set of mack mud flaps on and still clear the rear tires.
  7. I had thought of doing that if the truck didn't look so good chromed out I probably would have gone that way especially because I have four gallons of very expensive military CARC paint left over from my last truck I built.
  8. I used to buy a lot of military surplus it was real funny when I put in a proxy bid if I won the lot it was usually one bid under my set price.
  9. Exactly my thinking I wont post it if Im going to bid on it but will post it to help out others my way of thinking is I have a price which I may move up a bit if I really want the item and if out bid there is usually another one to bid on another day.
  10. I picked this up to install on my RS for parade season I have to run it down to the sand blaster when I find someone to let me use a heated shop to prime it in sometime it really sucks not having a heated shop anymore. The bed has a drop tailgate it will be painted red to match the truck and have LED clearance lights installed and the flat areas between the ribs will get polished aluminum inserts and I am going to custom build seats and rails along the inside for the veterans to seat themselves during parades. This was a cargo bed from a M35 military truck I cut it down and you can see on the rear how much I sectioned out then welded it back together and put it on a military semi tractor years ago when I sold the truck the new owner wanted a different style bed on it so he took it off and let it sit at a friends farm who offered it to me for three hundred dollars being as cheap as I am I couldn't pass the deal up.
  11. I know and I belong to another site that will actually ban you for posting auction link because of all the crying the members do when you alert others of an auction they may be bidding on.
  12. Looks like they sell everything on ebay you will be bidding against the rest of the world.
  13. I don't like the stainless ones and unless I can find a parts truck with one still on it the search continues.
  14. I would really like to put a sunvisor on the RS but I cant find anyone who sells the lund fiberglass ones anymore if anyone has a spare they can part with I would like to buy it.
  15. http://www.govdeals.com/index.cfm?fa=Main.Item&itemid=21&acctid=6308Here is a 73 mack single axle for auction its a low mileage municipal truck.
  16. Isnt Bruce Nagels place still just mack I was in there the other day and it looked the same as always.
  17. And they will have a different set of rules to police them the don't mess with them if they scream DISCRIMINATION version of rules.
  18. I ended up not getting them I could have had four for 600 dollars I may buy some when the next batch comes up for sale.
  19. Im not surprised a bit.
  20. These air ride seats are military seats they have firm padding and are a cotton duck type of cloth very durable.
  21. I will bet this one has a 3208 the title says it has a blown engine.
  22. Looks like an ex military fuel tanker they sell quite a few of those on the GSA some are really nice and others like this one are a turd it was used by a fire dept the military gives police and fire and forestry services first pick of these after they are turned in then they run them into the ground and are put up for sale. There was a real beauty up for sale a couple months ago in Oregon had a mack engine and trans which is rare because most had 3208 cats and automatics in them the one in Oregon was a steel dash model and pretty much rust free.
  23. OK I will let the guys interested in the old ones when it happens.
  24. I have interchanged seats and bases in my military trucks before its not just the air ride but a better fitting seat Im looking at the originals were never to comfortable never liked the vinyl in the summers anyways.
