  3. Thanks, everybody. Great info, and I was able to find a good replacement part. I appreciate the time you took to reply, and the specific information. Very helpful!
  4. My air system works, but has a constant leak that is coming from the part pictured. It's not a slow leak, it's almost as though a fitting is missing, but there's no threading on the hole the air is coming out of. I was thinking I would just replace this part, but I can't seem to locate one like it. Does anybody know what it is, exactly, and what a suitable replacement might be? It's on the back of the cab and the trailer supply lines (red/blue) come out the top. I think it's a tractor protection valve but I'm not exactly sure what all the in/out lines are so I want to replace it with the exact same valve, if possible, or else I need to learn a lot more about air brakes and know exactly what I'm doing, which will take a lot longer! Thanks, Glenn Reid
  5. I have owned lots of old [1-ton and similar] trucks but never a venerable Mack, until last week. I'm getting to know her; what a great, great truck! I have a dumb question... It feels like the brakes are stuck on. The truck won't roll in neutral, and when I start it and drive it, even with the air brake off and the hand brake seemingly off, it feels like the brakes are on all the time. Before I start digging into all the various braking systems to figure out what's wrong, I thought I would ask if there is something obvious I'm missing, and if it's even reasonable to expect this truck to roll when in neutral. Thanks for any thoughts... Glenn Reid California
  6. I like the idea of a bendable piece. I'll look into that. I've had this truck in my paws for only a couple of days now. Last night I fired it up inside the warehouse to check a few things out, built up the air pressure etc. Maybe ran it for 5 minutes all told. When I was done the top 6 feet of the warehouse ceiling was full of black smoke! Jeez, my "little" trucks like my Dodge Power Wagon don't do that. This "B" is quite a fire-breathing dragon!
  7. I'd like to be able to park my B under the mezzanine in my warehouse; it would just fit, except the exhaust stack is a little too high. It's just a straight pipe (no flapper or elbow at the top) and I'm considering shortening it to the height of the cab. Is this a bad idea? Will the cab roof get black, or the exhaust blow in the window, or otherwise make me wish I hadn't done this?
  8. I've contacted ATHS about forming a new chapter in the San Francisco Bay Area (Redwood City, to be exact) because it's a bit far to the nearest chapter (central coast, or Sacramento). Are any of you out there on this forum around the SF Bay Area, and either ATHS members or interested? Drop me a note (glenn "at" glennreid.com) or post here.
  9. Hi everybody. I'm a newbie, having just bought (but not yet got my hands on) a 1961 B-61 tractor. I found this forum and it seems pretty active. I'm thinking I'd like to find a vintage trailer (preferably a flatbed or lowboy) to match to the tractor. I don't see very many around anywhere and it seems like they almost don't exist. Is there an active trade in old trailers? Any restored ones, etc? Thanks for any info. Glenn Reid Woodside, CA
