  1. It's just more annoying than anything to be cruising down the road and come to a hill and be able to only get 24 or 25lbs of boost, but accelerating it'll go to 32lbs. Even in flatland IL we've got some hills and where I haul out of most of the time the hills are off the get go. I'm able to shift up and on a cool day it'll get 34lbs...so I'm pretty sure it can't be a lack of fuel/air problem. I've got an 18sp, so I'm able to split every gear and keep it between 1400 and 1650 most of the time. And yes, I do mash the go-pedal. It's too bad you can't spec out a computer like you can your rear end ratio, wheelbase, trans and so forth.
  2. Ahh...it'd be nice to have a house and shed for the truck right next to it. I think I remember reading a post on here somewhere on here where you chronicled your daughter re-doing her car after she hit a deer or drove through the ditch or something. But yea, keep an eyeball out for the banana peel...wave or flip me the bird or somethin if you see me.
  3. Ahh...must be the place with the house next to the body shop on the east side of the road...? I just might. According to a few people, there's millions and millions of dollars worth of work in and around the Peoria area to do yet this year, so I'm sure I'll be around there again.
  4. Ha...yea in LaSalle. The parts people are good, but the service isn't. I try to do most of the work myself but I can only do so much until someone makes a USB cord to adapt my laptop to my truck. I got to Farmington for the first time earlier this summer hauling asphalt for the resurfacing of rt. 78 between there and Canton. Who made the decision there wasn't enough traffic to support 300 feet of 4-lane through town and turn it into an odd looking parking lot?
  5. I would go to my local Mack dealer, but they're not exactly receptive to my nit-pickyness with my truck. If I came there with a hole in the engine block and said make it go again, they'd be all ears. But asking them to plug the computer in and check crap out, not really.
  6. Almost sounds like you're jokin around. I suppose it can't be programmed out can it?
  7. How's a guy get crisp and consistant throttle response and resulting boost gauge readings on a '97 CH 427 w/the electronic inline pump? Mine is across the board...anywhere from 22lbs to 33lbs...more often lower than higher. For example, if I'm taking off from a stop or turning a corner, shifting up through the gears most likely it'll go full boost rather quickly...other times when I'm rolling down the road, if full throttle is needed, it'll only go to mid-20's at most. I realize it's the older version of the fuel system, but it should be a little better than that.
  8. I'm thinking it was a company truck and a truck that was 'expendable' at that. Some kids out with a camcorder, dad's equipment on a sunday afternoon. I always tell the guy I'll kick his face in and make him eat his own shit before he pushes like that on any of my equipment. The tow hooks aren't just for decoration.
  9. The 1/4 frame keeps both trailer axles on the ground as opposed to only the back axle on your frameless. Also, my 1/4 frame is only 23' long, your frameless I'll assume is 39'. You really have to be jaggin off to tip a short 1/4 frame....with the frameless, you can aim your fart the wrong way and it's gone.
  10. In my exhaust upgrade/replacement adventures, I've found that the mufflers were cheaper ($55) than the 2 foot turnouts I bought ($65). I bought the mufflers from the Kenworth dealer here and the turnouts from Mack, just cause I like the 'Mack' style. If you think the mufflers are expensive, try buying what's under the cab, especially if you have dual exhaust. I put 6" straights on mine a couple weeks ago....and it's LOUD!!!!! I think I regret doing it and might put the mufflers back on. So if anyone wants a set of 6 foot long, by 6 inch diameter chrome straights, let me know!!!
  11. I've got a 427 and if it's above 80 degrees or so, the oil temp will hover between 180-200 degrees. It has 60-65 psi on the oil and the water temp is rarely above 180, unless on a dead pull. I do quite a bit of stopping and starting, so it's either full throttle or no throttle. I have a manual fan switch and I'll turn it on if I'm sitting for a few min or before I shut down the truck for the day and the oil temp will go down considerably. The 'red-line' on the gauge isn't until 250 degrees, so I figure it's alright...
  12. Hey thanks! Had I known the difference between 'personal photo' and 'avatar' I would've had it on there long ago.
  13. How do I get a picture to show on the upper left of my post...under my name?
  14. I never carry a chain . In 3 years I've had to be pulled out once...my brother with a Petercart has had to be...well, I lost count. Also with a 1/4 frame trailer, I can pull myself out if I have to. Unfortunately, I've got the Mack 18sp with the god-awful slow reverse...sometimes I have to back up quite a ways, so I'll slip it in the high range...which is about the same speed at idle as a regular reverse at full throttle.
  15. Ahh...yea that is bogus too. U.S. rt. 6 through my area is limited to 73280 for about 4 miles, because the townies don't want the traffic.
  16. If IL really wanted to do people a favor, it could raise the limit to 75 for everyone like much of the country west of the Missouri River has had for a few years now....it'd speed up the booorrrriiiiinnngggg drive down I-39, 55, 57...
  17. I'm on both sides of the fence on this one. Most of the construction work I do is paid by the hour...55 stay alive and makes for good mileage. If/when the limit goes up I'll have to go 65 and lose at least a mpg...I've been able to average in the low-mid 7's up here in the flat lands so far this year. On the other hand it'll be nice to get rid of the senior friendly/archaic 55mph for trucks, 65 for cars. Everything moving at the same speed makes for a better driving experience.
  18. Ha! Good luck finding a decent sympathetic operator! Most around here aren't. And I've seen a lot worse done. Who hasn't put it in hi range reverse to get where they're goin? It's funny, you'd think an owner/operator would be easy on his equipment, but there are plenty who are worse than hired goons.
  19. I'm still not a huge fan of the looks...inside and out...of that truck. I will, however, take the 1000 cubes and 605 hp. I just have to figure out how to stuff it into my old school CH.
  20. I think the number 1 thing with a new truck to look at is dealer service. Buy as local as you can. And as stated before...a tandem with lockers in the rear axles is as good as anything in the snow/off-road. No need to get front-end drive really unless you plan on climbing mountains, literally. As you stated, you plan on being on pavement mostly...carrying around all that extra weight just sucks the fuel. Lastly, I've never heard anything good about a dump truck with air-ride. If you buy a Mack, opt for the camel back. And an automatic!
  21. Just take the $4k and teach it to talk to you like the knight rider car...but not with David Hasselhof
  22. Is there a way to eliminate the 'econovance' so my truck doesn't go into a 1000 rpm smoke show on a cold start right after turning the key...? Or do I need an E-tech to have the smooth jump to 650 rpm at start up...
  23. I've got the air compressor intake off the intake manifold. How do I rig it up so the compressor intake is between the air filter and turbo..? I've had this problem in the past, fixed it and went from 24 max to 32+.
  24. This is what I'm after more than anything. I'm pretty happy otherwise with the power and mileage.
  25. I've seen that truck going up and down I-39 a few times. Sharp lookin unit...
