  1. Haha...it's hard to describe the sound it makes. More like if you whistle with your lips at a constant low(er) tone. I guess you'd have to ride along to get the idea. Reason I asked is because my dad used to tractor pull his regular farm tractor...just cranked up the farmer screw...and the stock turbo on the JD made a helacious scream. It ran like a raped ape, but he claimed the turbo was bad. And I thought the 427 was supposed to produce 24-32lbs...?
  2. 40?? Damn, my 427 only pulls a consistant 32lbs. When I have the passenger window down and I'm on the gas, the turbo makes a sound like a police car siren (?)...in addition to the normal turbo whistle. I don't know how else to describe it.
  3. Get the overhead run once in a while and have the jake adjusted at the same time. I used to drive a truck with an ISM Cummins motor and if you ran the jake for an extended period of time it would kick on the engine fan to create even more drag...
  4. I bet your windshield washer fluid bill rivals your fuel bill...
  5. I have the same problem...you must be in north central Illinois...?
  6. I took off the power steering pump and just shoved it to the side. I shimmied an impact wrench (probably not recommended) up there to loosen that nut because the engine turned when I just used a breaker bar.
  7. Haha...it's easy as pie. I'm used to it I guess. Tell you what though, I worked for IDOT over the winter and jumping in a truck that doesn't bend in the middle is WEIRD... I was used backing up and turning left to go right and vice versa...
  8. I do have kids but they're 4 and 11 months...and the 4 year old isn't allowed on the computer. I'm 'only' 28, but my 7 year old nephew can school me on the computer. It's pretty sad really.
  9. Steel trailer insulated for asphalt, but I'll haul almost anything with it. Just bought the trailer...upgraded from a Hilbilt to the PitBoss...(with air ride..!! my back is smiling already).
  10. Just messin around here. I wanted to post some before/after pictures...from when I bought the truck to now. Problem is I can't find the old pictures of my truck. So here are a couple others instead. I've got a ways to go yet though... Ha, it took me quite a while ('puter tarded) to resize and upload these TWO photos, so don't make too much fun.
  11. I've been wanting a better engine brake for my Mack too... If you decide against using that Jacobs setup, let me know because I have an E7 motor. Anyone know what it takes to swap out the dynatard(stealth) for the Jake...??
  12. Quick question about the engine shutdown/electonic malfuntion light...what else would trigger it besides low coolant? The other night it was coming on on me every now and then. All the fluids are fine and there was no shutdown and/or power loss. Truck is a 97 CH.
  13. I was thinking about just zapping the gear to the shaft with the welder but thought otherwise since I had it all apart anyway. Gives you an opportunity to check out the bottom end since you have to drop the oil pan and pump.
  14. I went through the same fiasco last summer w/my 97. I asked around and the only option given to me was to replace the whole accessory shaft. It's not a horrible job, but a pain in the ass nonetheless.
  15. I worked for IDOT over the winter and half of their trucks had electric trailer brake controllers in them. Maybe I can find out how they're rigged up.
  16. ...glad I'm not the only one who's Mack needs to find some Simple Green and a Hotsy...
  17. Is the length of time adjustable or is it 5 minutes on all trucks? My CH has the override button, but I've let it idle for more than 5 minutes on a few occassions and it hasn't shut down. Not a big deal as I bump the cruise to 1,000 RPM most of the time anyway. Must be disabled...?
  18. Maybe you should get some 6-pack abs air-brushed onto you like they do in that hotels.com commercial...
  19. Don't quote me but I think it's 37.5 inches long. The handles on the cab are 3-4 inches longer... I need two!
  20. Mine, however, produces no boost...due to it being a "stealth" brake. I wish I could swap it out though for a regular one...
  21. I was wondering how/where to get the grab handles for the exhaust heat shields...since my local Mack dealer can't seem to find one. Parts guy says you can't do anything without a serial number (since my truck wasn't originally equipped), I'm SOL. If you look at this ad, on the driver's side muffler there's a grab handle. It's a different length than the one on the side of the cab. http://www.truckpaper.com/listings/detail....649b0110d352d5c
  22. When you have the engine brake button on, but you're on the gas, it won't have any effect on how much boost/power the engine makes. When you're off the gas and the brake is on, it will produce boost...don't ask me how though...
  23. I thought I'd keep it clean for the kids! Mine had to come out because the accessory drive shaft went bad...so I had to drop the compressor and oil pan, among other things, to put a new one in. Definately put the F U in fun...
  24. I hadn't bench pressed in a while so I thought I'd practice up. I shoved it up between the block and frame from underneath while I had help w/the bolts. It never fails also that all the big sh*t requiring full physical effort breaks when it's 90+ degrees and humid out... Good luck!
  25. When I put the compressor (back) on my truck I just had to line up the shaft on the compressor to the one on the motor and bolt on. What an effin bugger that was putting it back on.
