  1. My '89 CH613 tractor has 4:42 rears which seem fine, and suitably versatile. I have, but not as yet installed, a used T-2180-B 18 speed trans which is in good/excellent condition, to replace the present transmission which is a "T-107". It's really a high(er) range 4 speed, over a lower 3 speed gear set, w/a single range reverse gear. I'm thinking that the 18-speed T-2180-B trans will likely solve the present problem of the truck just not having enough gears to run and work at anything like an optimum level. I HOPE! My present thinking is that it may be I will - not - need to replace the E7-300 engine w/a more powerful: E7-400, or a 427 or perhaps 454. Your thoughts if so, as to which one? I will add here, that I have been reading that it seems there are some Q's about the E7-460 variant being not reliable or being in some fashion(s) perhaps problematic. Can anyone speak to the '460' issue? So, 2 questions in my mind: 1: Does it seem likely that the benefit of replacing the '7-speed' w/the T-2180B 18speed will be sufficient to NOT require that I also replace the E7-300 engine for one of higher HP? 2: As noted above, IF it seems to be the case that it will still require an engine swap to one of a larger HP, which of the 3: E7-400, E7-427 or, the E7-454 would the readers think best, and the reason they feel so, and, while we're at it - do they think there are any other options I've overlooked and which I should consider before moving on this? thx! Ed
  2. Can a DM 690S double chassis be used to rebuild an R-model truck w/a double frame chassis seriously compromised by rust?
  3. the shop responsible for damage ; company shop or private company. wouldn't shop be liable for replacing of new block ???

  4. any possibility of a picture to better understand damage discussed> does the DM have a jacobs engine brake ??

  5. I have a 1969 DM611S, ENDTB-673 w/a TRQ-7220 18 speed Quadruplex. (a great old Mack!) In the course of a clutch job, I later discovered the shop had damaged the casting @ the lower, rear driver's side of the block where it receives the 'through-bolt' of the bell housing to the block! This of course has made it unsuitable for rebuilding. As a rebuilt engine - could I use a slightly newer 4-valve Maxidyne engine block and rebuild it as a Thermodyne - and - could I use the set of 4-valve heads in the rebuild? Your thoughts and/or any experience(s) on the matter would be received w/my appreciation and interest. My thx in advance for any insights or advice on the matter. Ed

don't understand how a block can be destroyed  unless a jack was placed under the corner and attempted to lift eng. ????

Well, sit down and be ready for a shocker - I never actually found out just how the damage occurred, but the dealer ate the labor which was nice I guess, but still charged for the new clutch parts of course and did apologize. So, I bought a couple of cores, a 675 2v & a 676 2v engines to rebuild @ a boneyard for cheap. I'm trying to determine  but My original engine was a1969 ENDBT Thermodyne w/a Dynatard engine brake. The Thermodyne still runs well but, is not rebuildable of course, given the broken block mounting point. I am wondering if I can rebuild the either one or both of the 2 cores as a Thermodyne?
