No, I didn't. That is why I said I wouldn't get into the specifics of this truck. My comment is about clubs owning trucks in general.

I won't get into the specifics of this truck because there is a lot of baggage associated with it, but there is another side to the issue of club owned trucks. A lot of us would love to have free perpetual care for our "babies", but that places an unfair burden on the clubs and chapters who must bear the expenses. What every club needs is a specific policy on donated trucks that spells out to the owners what the club will, or can, do with the donated truck. Usually the best solution is to make it clear that the club may sell the truck as a means to raise money and that there is no guarantee that the truck will remain in the club forever. Our SPAAMFAA chapter spends thousands of dollars a year on the two club owned trucks we have. Insurance, maintenance, keeping a trailer for them, etc. all adds up. Additionally we are always having issues finding a member who can store and display the trucks. When I was on the board I favored selling them, but the answer always was that a long time member donated the truck and it just wouldn't be right to sell it. So the rest of us get to pay for that member's legacy, a pretty sweet deal if you ask me. I love looking at the FJ, but I don't know why my dues should pay to keep this truck up? Should dues cover the maintenance of a B-61 that is donated? What about the junker that has sat out back for 20 years? Where do you draw the line? Should members be polled to come up with a list of worthy trucks? And if so do we keep all of them or just the first one donated?

A major expansion of the museum is in the works. The owner, Keith Jones, who is also a principal owner of Abilene Motor Express, has done a phenomenal job of assembling rare and unique trucks and tractors for the rest of us to enjoy.

You have hit on what I have come to believe exactly. In my 32 years on the job I dealt with so many folks who kissed their spouse goodbye in the morning and never came home that night, often through absolutely no fault of their own. Life is very capricious.

And there are 59 dead folks in GB that wish government had told the building owners what to do. There will always be some idiot who skirts the rules and puts people's lives at stake because government fails to properly regulate them. That is why we have government "telling me what to do".

I think there is still a strong work ethic out there. Every generation believes the following one is a bunch of slacking, no common-sense, idiots who want payment for not working. But somehow we keep making productivity improvements, increasing the GDP, and coming up with new innovations. Are there slugs? Absolutely, but there have always been a percentage of slugs. As a small business owner friend says the real problem is any employee that is any good already has a job. And I agree completely that we need to re-emphasize technical training. We also need to stop "degree inflation" where jobs that really don't require a degree are now requiring one for all applicants. Sorry folks, but being a fire fighter does not require a college degree, yet many places now require one as just one example.

Boy, is that being kind. VW was greedy and like many of the rich all they were interested in is getting richer by cheating at the expense of the rest of us. I hope someone gets a tobacco type settlement against them for putting all of us at risk for lung diseases.

I hear you about the use of bigger rigs, but I wonder if the real world market would support it. I do a fair amount of traveling on interstates and it always strikes me about how few doubles I see compared to 40 foot singles. I would think that if the economics of larger loads supported the use of more doubles they would be out there.

I believe the B model was purchased by someone in GB for $20K and took a direct boat ride from NH to GB. I am impressed that Swanzey Center could find drivers for the B model that was equipped with a quadraplex.
