  1. You can contact the museum to obtain a shop drawing of the battery box so it can be re-created. Have you checked with Watts about the emblem? Like this
  2. After thinking a bit about this my question is why are you removing the engine? If it is to replace it or re-build it than care is needed. If you are doing it to salvage the engine than just cutting it up would be easier.
  3. Please don't let the bean counters see this. We will be living in the fire trucks instead of having fire houses.
  4. The customer service center serves as the "finishing" area for any customers who want to add special features to their purchase that are not done on the assembly line at Macungie. The last time I went to the open house they were working in this area and you could walk through to check it out. I don't know if that is still the case.
  5. I also use JC Taylor. If you go with them they will offer a towing option, but it will not cover a heavy truck.
  6. If you are willing to bet on HF stuff: http://www.harborfreight.com/1-ton-capacity-telescoping-gantry-crane-62510.html
  7. Wise ass answer; let someone else do it. You need to remove the roof panel and clear all of the accessories out of the way; radiator, fuel lines, etc. Most shops use an overhead crane, but any machine capable of lifting the engine weight and able to lift high enough to clear the cab would work.
  8. If you lose the prime try spraying WD-40 into the air intake as you crank it. It should run on the WD-40 long enough to get the fuel back up to the filters. Do not try to run it on ether.
  9. There must be a couple of thousand R model pictures on here. Scroll through and see if anything tickles your fancy. I always liked a solid red body with black fenders. Jim Hancock has posted quite a few pics of really nice R models. Here is a link to the red/black combo:
  10. Got the new Double Clutch on Thursday and sent back the show registration yesterday. Six months to go!
  11. I assume you belong to ATCA? If so the latest Double Clutch has a list of hotels for the show. Make sure you sign up for the Friday night cook out as well. Philly is a wonderful city to visit and if I were coming from a long distance I'd try to plan a couple of days before or after the show to do the tourist type stuff in the city. As for keeping the ladies amused during the show she may enjoy visiting Lancaster County and the Amish community that is there. It is about an hours drive south of Macungie. There is a really good farmer's market at the Allentown Fair grounds that carries all sorts of fresh baked goods and has several small restaurants that are quite good. That will keep her busy for a couple of hours and is open on Saturday.
  12. Do not use silicone type sealants on any type of automotive paints as it will eventually cause the paint to blister. If you want to try sealing it use a body panel seam sealer like these: http://www.eastwood.com/autobody/seam-sealer.html?SRCCODE=TXT00040&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=bing&creative=3321477025&device=c&matchtype=b I would just use a good quality epoxy paint to seal it up. Given the light use the truck will get I don't think it will ever rust out.
  13. Both my 2011 DMax and the new 2016 DMax use the "DIC" to tell the operator when it is time to replace the fuel filter. At 98K miles the 2011 has had one or two filters. (If you ever changed a fuel filter on a DMax you remember it, what a PIA.)
  14. No different than many of the old line US made tool builders such as Porter-Cable and Delta that were bought out. They will make a cheaper product that will live off of the legacy of the brand until it ultimately fades into history. The real shame is that Craftsman filled a niche for the home mechanic that no else seems to be able to do. They made affordable, well made tools that may not be as well made as Snap-On, but served perfectly well for most of us. And their warranty was legendary. Time to start hitting yard sales and auctions to find the stuff that's still out there.
  15. I thought it might have been for hauling the cut granite slabs that so many towns in that area use for curbing. I guess that doesn't make sense since you could not dump them. But God knows there are certainly enough large rocks in New England to justify having a special trailer for them.
  16. Very nice. Is that a specialty trailer for hauling granite?
  17. Bring the pics up in the computer; click select all (top right); click save to and then pick where you want to save to (create a separate folder from the original) and it should give you an option of saving in original format or a smaller format.
  18. Why? Is the station roof too low to house an aerial? I can't believe they have the staffing to throw 35 or 50 foot ground ladders in place of an aerial device.
  19. That has to be the last city service truck built in the US. I never would have thought any department would still operate a city service, much less buy a new one, since the 1950's.
  20. Just my $.02, but it seems like the heavy duty vocational market is just too small for the builders to pay attention to. My bet is that in the long run economics will eventually cause the market to be left in one builder's hand; my bet is Western Star. I think you will be able to spec out a Paccar product to be equivalent, but it will come at a premium price for those who just have to have a Paccar product. I also see an opportunity for someone who wants to roll the dice and get into building trucks for the HD vocational market. Possibly upgrading an existing product or maybe even going whole hog and doing a complete truck like Hendrickson. Maybe even Caterpillar will dip their toe back into the market now that the economy is back on track.

    2017

You should know better than to open that door around this place. I have about a million lines for that one, but I'll behave. Happy New Year and I hope 2017 is the best year of your life.
  22. Mike, I hope you get well soon. And frankly I'd be offended if you weren't so blunt in your message. Good for you! Do what the docs say, pay attention and do what the physical therapist says, and you'll be out rounding up new projects before you know it. May 2017 turn out to be the best year of your life.
  23. Happy New Year everyone. I believe Chrysler tried to name that color "Statutory Grape" in the late 60's. Company lawyers promptly nixed the idea. I'd stop going to the self serve island if they worked at my local service station.
  24. Happy New Year to all.
  25. Very nice. What a special way to make memories. Congrats.
