  1. If they are Bendix disc brakes look here: http://www.ccjdigital.com/the-bendix-guide-to-air-disc-brake-friction-replacement/
  2. That is there to drop on the car in front of you when they fail to move at a light because they are playing on their phone. You just lift them out of your way. I want one!
  3. Thanks for the effort. If it is OK with you I am going to write the editor of the SPAAMFAA publication to ask if he would publicize this as well.
  4. Cribbing and stacking are different. When you crib you alternately cross the wood so every piece is oriented 90 degrees to the ones above and below it so it will not have a "hinge" point to collapse on. You should never stack shoring more than two blocks high, and then only if they are perpendicular to the load, without using the cross method to go higher.
  5. I was just giving you a hard time about the jack stands, but in all seriousness I would not trust my life to the system you "developed". A good friend was paralyzed, and subsequently killed himself over it, when a set of jack stands slipped on a sloped wash bay floor and dropped a truck on him. A couple of hundred bucks for a real set of stands will look like a bargain compared to a couple of weeks in a hospital. Even using 6x6 or 4x4 cribbing would be safer.
  6. Part dumb blonde, part just dumb; My niece called her Dad to bring her a spare set of keys for her car because the remote would not open the door. She had the keys in her hand.
  7. I know it is a little early to be talking about Macungie, but I made hotel reservations yesterday and I was quite surprised to find that the hotel had only 2 rooms left for that weekend. I booked at the Hawthorn Suites in Fogelsville near I-78 which has been a popular spot for show goers because of it's rates and large parking lot. If you are planning on going this year you may want to make your reservations sooner rather than later. In past years there have been other events going on in the area such as soccer tournaments which may explain why rooms are already being booked up. As Doug Maney says "It is the greatest truck show on earth." It would be a shame to miss it because you cannot find a room. The 2017 dates are June 16, 17, &18.
  8. Geez, I just noticed the welds on the jack stands. NICE!
  9. Let's see.. I was taking the driveshaft out of a 4wd Dodge pick up while it was parked in the driveway which was sloped up from the street. The cross wouldn't free up from the yoke, so I pried/beat on it until it popped out. As I laid there I got to watch the truck roll over me, (Fortunately I was laying completely under the truck so it cleared me) out the driveway, and into a neighbor's tree which was pretty lucky since the next stop was the neighbor's house. Parking brake? Chock? What are those for?
  10. Part of Gary Mahan's collection. Hats off to him for spending the money to bring them to Macungie for the rest of us to enjoy.
  11. If you fart one more time I'm going to have to install a positive ventilation system in this thing!
  12. That was really a good one; I'd tell you about all of the stupid things I have done while working on things except there is not enough room on here to chronicle them all. Yours wouldn't even make the top 50 on my list. Just remember, if you never do anything than you never have the chance to make a mistake. Things like this only happen to those who dare to try to actually do something, not just talk about it. I do like the OSHA approved jack stands. Any chance they are available for purchase as a Christmas gift?
  13. I have one that is right for your truck I'd let go, but it is not in top condition. Send me a PM if you are interested and I'll send some pics.
  14. This is a real stretch, but...Any chance the wheels were left in the cold outside air while the truck was in a heated shop? Expanded spiders plus cold shrunk wheels might make a difference.
  15. Not being a smart ass, but you do have the spacer ring that goes between the wheels off of the hub don't you?
  16. If I bought it, or any other "project", my DW would ensure it was my home.
  17. If you are looking for a parts truck I know where one is that runs and has a flat bed dump on it. Send me a PM if you are interested.
  18. Not only do you need to get the wheels aligned "straight on" to get them to slide on you also need to make sure they are on straight as you tighten up the lug nuts. Once the tire is on the spokes lower the jack so the tire is about an inch off of the floor and then place a piece of wood against the outside of the tire. Slowly rotate the tire and watch the contact between the wood and the tire. If it is on straight it should stay the same, but it rarely does. You will need to jockey the tire around on the spider by tightening/loosening the lug nuts to get it straight. Another trick is to put a piece of sheet metal down under the tire and then spray it with WD-40 or some other lube. Align the hub with the tire and it makes it easier to push the tire on if you do not have a wheel lift.
  19. If you need to have the wooden ladder re-habbed the Delaware Department of Corrections does that kind of work at a very reasonable price using convicts who are training in wood working.
  20. Send the chassis number to the museum with a suitable donation and they will send you quite a stack of information about your truck including who the original purchaser was. I agree, the fenders are easily repaired. Pull them off, sand blast them to find out what you have and start "heating and beating" to get them into shape.
  21. Price is always a factor of condition and rarity. The 354 is not terribly rare, so it really depends on condition, with the amount of rust being the primary concern since mechanical fixes are usually much easier to accomplish. Go to the Brockway user's group and find someone who is knowledgeable about the 354's and where they typically rust and then check your truck closely in those areas. I'd also find out what, if any, parts are difficult or impossible to find. i.e. The vent window frames for a B look like a small thing until you look for one; I have seen them advertised for hundreds of dollars. The bottom line is if you like the truck and you can accomplish, or pay for, any needed repairs then go for it. Even if it is a little over budget you will not regret it if you really like the truck.
  22. My observation is that they are down almost everywhere I travel except the Charleston, SC area. It seems like I see more Western Stars than any other newer truck these days. Lots of Macks in the trash hauling arena, but not as many dumps.
  23. Same story. I do about a mile of private road and most of the neighbors driveways, so I was freezing my ass off. I tried the loader attached blade, but I found that it tended to push the tractor around because it was so long. Keeping the blade attached directly to the frame allows me to use a box on the rear to drag snow away from garages, etc. I use the loader valve to lift and swing the blade.
  24. If all else fails you can have the clutch and the water pump rebuilt. I have used Automotive Manufacturer's in Richmond, VA and they do a good job at a reasonable price. 2400 N Lombardy St Richmond, VA 23220 804-321-6861 A friend uses Fort Wayne Clutch in Fort Wayne, IN and is very happy with their work. What Paul said about the seal and I also wrap a piece of tape over the splines and the shoulder where the splines end when I slide the seal on to keep it from snagging. I would replace the throw out bearing as well. Pretty cheap and it is a major PIA to get to if it is bad when you put it all back together.
  25. Not to be Capt. Obvious, but you did not mention the fuel filter. I assume you changed it?
