  3. And I would install a battery cut-off switch as well. It stops parasitic losses and may well prevent an unattended electrical fire.
  4. The museum will have a shop drawing(s) of the floor plan on file just like all Mack parts. Send them a letter and a donation, and they will get the drawing to you. In this day and age of computer operated presses, shears, and brakes it is not as difficult to get "one-off" stuff made. Find someone to convert the drawing to AutoCad format and you are well on your way.

It takes five things to deliver effective fire suppression: A properly trained crew; adequate staffing on each apparatus to do the job; the right apparatus for the job; you must arrive in time to do the job; and you must have enough total apparatus and staffing to do the job. Take away any of the five and the likelihood of a successful outcome is just a crap shoot.
  9. Are you sure this isn't a switch for a 2 speed axle? Others on here will know more about this than I do, but I don't think they used "splitter" switches for transmissions back then.
  10. And don't let the grill/hood fool you. I know of a couple of trucks that were "modernized" by changing out the hood. Nice truck.

  12. There is an outfit in Oregon(??) that reproduces tags like that. Pretty pricey, but I'm sure like a lot of these items the price goes down as the quantity goes up. If you are interested I think I can find the name.
  13. It could be yours; check out the for sale items on the ODHFS site. It is in really nice shape. The owner died a couple of years ago after he had the truck painted and completely equipped. He was from western MA and really concentrated on Maxims from that area. The club has helped the family dispose of most of the 15 or so trucks and a warehouse full of parts that he left. Funny, I never thought of them as rare as there were quite a few around in the early 70's when I started here. The two Ford/Youngs on the site were quite unique because they had "windshields" in front of the jump seats as well as the back step. I believe Young only made 4 of those with at least one being involved in a LODD wreck and being totaled. The other one took a boat ride to Central America as part of a State Dept. assistance program we took part in. (We lost a significant part of our early apparatus history through that effort.) Thanks for asking. It's coming, but like all restorations it is taking far longer than I thought it would. Life has this nasty habit of interfering with my plans to spend time working on it. My hope was to have it done next spring, but I'm pretty sure that will stretch to 2018 at best.

  20. I was quite surprised by the number of PA, NY, and NJ trucks that were in TX when we went to the SPAAMFAA meet in Houston. There were far more rigs from the northeast than there were from Texas.
  21. Tim's CF is from there and he is always looking for good in-service pics. it is the only stainless steel bodied CF Mack ever made. Keep up the great pictures; nothing like some fire truck porn for entertainment.

  23. Spent some time there as a youth. My grandfather owned an orchard in Ashland, where I grew up, and we used to deliver apples to a cider mill in Bolton if I remember correctly. I guess times have changed in Bolton. Never thought they would have the kind of money to buy what you described.

The CJ-5 in the left center is identical to the one I owned as a teenager, right down to the plow and the optional factory cab (with the fibergalss roof that put splinters in your hand anytime you touched it) I made a lot of money with that little beast and had a lot of fun cruising the beaches of Cape Cod.
