  1. I hope the church group contact various FD's along the way to solicit a place to stay. I'm sure they would be welcomed.
  2. Do you have plans to re-wire the entire truck? Based on your description I'd say you need to. It would be a shame to bring it this far and then lose it because the wiring caught fire. Chances are the buzzer just burned out since it would quit sounding right after it built up air. Most older trucks with air brakes regularly leaked down rather quickly, so it wasn't unusual to sit in quarters building up air while everyone else got dressed and ready to ride. When the buzzer quit you knew you were OK to release the maxi-brake without causing the pressure to drop enough to re-activate the maxi. Some places even kept the trucks plugged into the station compressor to ensure they stayed aired up.

    B 21?

I know where there is a Hall-Scott for sale if you need a spare. It is in Maryland. PM me if you want the information. Did he also buy a fuel tanker so he can drive the rig more than 10 miles?
  4. Get well soon. Macungie is only 7 months away!
  5. I thought $12K was a very high price, but that is just my opinion. Like many of the early Macks they are not rare, nor are they common with many of them sitting in the fire houses they started life in. My guess is a professional restoration would be in the $125K to $150K range. It shows once again that you are always better off to by the best truck you can find, even at a much higher price, if you want to end up at the least cost for a restored truck. Like everything; it was worth what someone was willing to pay for it. I hope it gets restored for the rest of us to enjoy.
  6. Without an in-person inspection of the truck it is hard to say. The pics look nice, but we all know pictures lie. If it is in top condition you will not be able to reproduce it for less than $50K.
  7. I can barely make out "McClure and Nestor???" on the excavator. Nothing came up on a Google search. The excavator is definitely an old timer. Warner-Swasey Hopto. There is name on the front of the dump trailer, but I just can't make it out.
  8. Try checking the wire going to the switch for voltage with the ignition on. If it has voltage you can then short the wire to ground to sound the buzzer so you can find it. I assume you have heard a buzzer when you start the truck after it sits and the air pressure has gone down?? The pressure switch should be normally closed until the air pressure rises enough to open it.
  9. I think this rig is Canadian Eh! So it was not bought with Fire Grant money. The Canadians have much stricter safety laws than we do, so it wouldn't surprise me they have outlawed open jump seats.
  10. L108, E216; The Pride of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. I actually rode on that exact piece with E216 while doing a ride along. Nice find!
  11. You were the first person I thought of. I had the chance to buy the only chain drive "B" series fire truck Mack ever built; like an idiot I didn't pull the trigger.

  13. Blown up it looks like the "Dodge" logo on the side of the hood.
  14. Did you touch the wires together to see if a buzzer sounds? I would also check the switch's continuity to see if it is normally closed or open.
  15. You really hope it is a case of the driver failing to set the brakes and it rolled down the hill into the tree.
  16. Happy Thanksgiving and here's to anyone who has to work today while the rest of us try to eat ourselves to death. God Bless and stay safe.
  17. I would love to, but no money or room keeps me from going for it. I tried to talk a friend into it, but he won't bite.
  18. Buy 'em if you can. I can make the rough one look like new. Are you looking for an extinguisher for the L model or to put on a shelf?
  19. No room at the firehouse for an old friend?
  20. Sorry man! I am never sure about who to let know I'm bidding on something. I am out of the Mack extinguisher market for now unless the price is too low to pass on. I remembered you telling me that and I have been thinking of a possible solution since then. I wouldn't purchase an extinguisher for the truck unless I could figure out a solution to display it. You really wouldn't have to weld the tab to the extinguisher; just make it a "U" shape at the top and hook it over the handle. The lock cylinder does not need to be welded to the running boards either; if the lock were enclosed on both sides by a welded cover on the cylinder it could be slipped over the tab and secured with the lock against the bottom of the running board. I have never had any issues at any show, but some items are so hard to find that I just don't want to tempt fate. The last three Mack extinguishers I saw sell at an auction before the ones I bought went for $1000.00 to $1200.00 each. Even at less than $500.00 each I paid, their loss would be hard to take. The nozzle is even rarer; I have only seen one other and it sold for $600.00 as soon as it hit the market. Like Paul said it is the small hard to replace items that seem to walk.
  21. A couple of weeks ago I found a Mack extinguisher listed with a fairly reasonable "buy it now" price so I grabbed it. I have been stalking eBay for months trying to find a Mack extinguisher for the 75A and for the AB. Right after I bought this one I found two more for a fair price that I bought as well, including one that dates from the very early years with "International Motors" as well as the Mack logo on it. I lent the early extinguisher to a friend to display on his AB since mine will not be finished for a couple of years. Given how pricey the extinguishers have become I felt like I needed to secure the extinguisher I mounted on the 75A in a way that made it hard to "walk off with". I welded a small tab to the bottom handle which fits through a slot I cut in the running board. The tab is then captured by a cylindrical lock which I put inside of a steel cylinder that I made and welded to the bottom of the running board. And a while back I found a solid bore nozzle on eBay with the Mack logo embossed into it which I scored at a really good price because it was listed in the wrong category. I buffed it out and had it re-plated. I think this one is pretty rare. .
  22. Depends on how high you will need to get, but a tractor equipped with pallet forks and "work platform" might work as well with the plus of being multi-use. I use my L3430 Kubota as a lift quite often.
