  1. If you search the forums I think you will find some pics of Campanella's trucks. Nice truck; are you working it or is it a hobby truck?
  2. And you didn't tell him I want the one with the Bulldog? Nice truck.
  3. We went from 100% E-One to 100% Pierce in less than 13 years. All total Pierce has delivered over 100 trucks to us. Price wise they are competitive with other builders for what we specify. Mechanical break downs occur across all brands, but what makes a brand good or bad is the quality of the body work and how it holds up to the (ab)use we give it. So far Pierce seems to hold up pretty well. As far as the troops are concerned they are no better or worse than any other builder. No matter the builder they all have gremlins especially when they get run hard and put away wet day in and day out. This is just our experience in a large relatively busy career department. Each department has to judge for themselves what will work for them.
  4. I ran a fatal wreck that occurred when the raised bed of a dump truck struck an overpass on I-95 and levered the cab up into the bridge. That in turn crushed the cab completely down to the floor instantly killing the driver and his dog. Our assumption was the driver was distracted and somehow engaged the pto and the bed raised suddenly. I cannot believe that he would not have noticed the increased drag at highway speeds if he was going down the road with it in the raised position. Either way it was not a good day for him.
  5. Randy, Randy, Randy....So you were a closet DD person all along. First truck, first worker; shame, shame, shame for being afraid to come out until you had no choice. Seriously, nice find. All of us lust for the first one we drove and rode on. I am a bit surprised that the automatic chassis oiler didn't keep it from rusting. Maybe Dad was a little too vigilant about stopping the oil leaks from the 6-71? I understand there are some Mennonite metal fabricators who have resurrected a couple of Hahns in the past. I think they might have their contact info on the Hahn Facebook page. Good luck with it.
  6. There was a Mars 888 on eBay recently. Do you need the whole assembly for the front molded light or just the bulb and ring? The bulbs are pretty common and you will find them at almost any FD flea market. "firenut" on this site just removed a set of strobes from a CF that match the 3rd picture. Try PM'ing him.
  7. Anybody remember the Jag XKE that was in the same shape on "Fast and Loud" that sold for around $6K and was exported to GB. I'm guessing there is an actual market for "parts cars" in this shape. I just wish the same was true for old trucks.
  8. When I went to check out some abandoned fire trucks a while ago there was a complete tiller truck, painted bright yellow yet, with so many large trees grown up around it you could not see it from 50' away. Don't 'ya wonder?
  9. It depends on what type of contracts you are planning on doing. Most municipalities want reliability, so they may have a maximum age for any truck they contract with, particularly if the truck is new to the contract. So I would say the first thing would be to check with your potential employer. If you are working your own contracts doing parking lots, etc. it comes down to comfort and reliability. You know the drill; when it snows you need to be there now, not 24 hours from now. Break downs are killers for snow movers. The other consideration is what are you going to do if it doesn't snow. When the weather gets warm is there work for a 40 plus year old truck to pay the bills? My inclination would be to buy something newer and more reliable and use the money you make to buy the 81 as a hobby truck.
  10. Try this one; his name is Ralph and he does quite a bit of cast iron repair. Located in Stafford, VA right off of 95. http://www.therestorationshoponline.com/
  11. It's a "U"; of course it leans to the left!
  12. Check out Hemmings. Steering wheel restoration is pretty expensive. I would look for a replacement wheel given how common CF's and F models are.(CF's are converted F models)
  13. I believe there is a Seagrave owner's Facebook page. I'd put it on there; I'm sure someone will want the grill, wheels, and possibly the front clip.
  14. Randy; keep an eye on the NAPA site. Every once in a while they have a killer sale on batteries.
  15. Where in VA are you? Automotive Manufacturers in Richmond is an excellent re-builder for water pumps, electrical accessories, and brake/clutch re-lining. 2400 N Lombardy St Richmond, VA 23220, 804-321-6861. White Post restorations near Winchester will sleeve and re-build the wheel cylinders which gives you a life time warranty on them. While a re-build kit is not available for your engine individual parts will probably not be that difficult to find. Push comes to shove pull it down, measure the part or get a PN and start looking. I am finishing up the re-build of a 1925 AB engine and I have been able to find what I needed with a little creativity. I had valves, valve springs, and keepers made for example.
  16. Nice! How far out of the way did you have to go to avoid the scales?
  17. The truck is pretty close to where I live. If anybody wants me to check it out for a possible purchase let me know. I'm pretty sure I can find short term storage for it as well if it is needed.
  18. Saw this on CL; no personal interest. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/cto/5273435580.html Mack Tandem Axle Road Tractor - $13500 (Warrenton)< > © craigslist - Map data © OpenStreetMap (google map) 1964 Mack Road Tractor condition: excellent fuel: diesel odometer: 130 title status: clean transmission: manual safety tips prohibited items product recalls avoiding scams 1964 Mack has 10 speeds, 130K original miles, good tires, heater, recent inspection, diesel engine, runs good, and ready to show or work. 19. Saw this on CL. Think it is true? 1994 MACK RD690P SERVICE TRUCK - $12500 (Catlett, Va) I have for sale a single axle Service truck that was the LAST truck built in the Mack Canada factory. Truck was originally a road tractor and was converted to a service truck with an 11' Knapheid body. The body is a little rough looking, but is still very solid. It has 1/8" diamond plate on the top and insides of the body to strengthen it. Some sanding, grinding and painting would make it look great. I have 4 new doors for it, but not all of them. The rear axle was changed to a new way air ride and it rides great. The rear tires are brand new caps, the fronts are in great shape as well as the brakes and clutch. It has a Mack 275hp engine and a Mack T2060 6 speed transmission. It has plenty of power and torque to haul a trailer with the 25 ton pintle hitch with air connections and the 2" reciever with an electric brake controller and 7 way plug. The interior is in great shape and very clean with an ice cold AC. The truck has 17k hours roughly and the speedometer was changed right before I bought it and now has 41,000 miles, 40,000 of which I have put on it with no problems. I know I have the original metric speedometer somewhere, just having a hard time finding it. This really is a great owner operator type truck that is reliable with old school simple technology. It is a CDL truck with a 12,000 lb front axle and 21,000lb rear axle. Thanks for looking and please call with any questions. show contact info < >safety tipsprohibited itemsproduct recallsavoiding scams
  20. Check with John Chalmers at one of the shows.
  21. Is the cab leaned forward? If so it would shorten the gap between the firewall and the radiator.
  22. Price?
  23. Night before a snow?? I am in SC heading back to VA; Did I miss something? I know the 'Skins won, but I didn't know Hell froze over that quickly.
  24. Ken, All is well here and the city is open for tourists to come spend their money. Carl
