  1. The B model fire truck model designations were based on the size of the pump that the truck was equipped with. A B-75 was 500 gpm, a B-85 was 750 gpm, a B-95 was 1000 gpm, and the B-21 was 1250 gpm. All of them except for the B-21 were basic B model cabs with the B-21 having a stretched nose to accommodate a Hall-Scott engine.
  2. It would be sacrilege, but it would make a great bar back.
  3. It's a Mack..there is no way to make it look bad!
  4. I agree, but get as much off as possible with the clutch engaged before you disengage it. I would prop a piece of wood between the seat and the pedal to hold it down while you spray it.
  5. So lets get this right. The Republican lawmakers that represent Alaska have sought this change for years. The Democratic President gives them what they want while following a basic Republican tenant of states rights ahead of federal intrusion and gets pilloried for it. No wonder out of 300 million people we can only find a dozen idiots who would want the job.
  6. I agree; once it is oil coated it is pretty hard to get the clutch disc to work correctly again. But, you could try the obvious since the adage of "nothing to lose by trying" applies here. Use brake cleaner very liberally and let it run off, spin the engine a 1/4 turn and do it again, when it is as clean as you can get it do it again while the clutch pedal is depressed. Spin the engine a 1/4 turn, spray again, etc. I doubt it will work, but it is a lot easier and cheaper than pulling the engine or tranny to re-build the clutch. If it comes down to a re-build I would seriously consider pulling the engine in lieu of removing the tranny so you can replace all of the oil sealing gaskets and properly clean and paint it. It will take a serious lift, so you may want to get a shop to do it if you don't have a big hoist or fork truck. Good luck.

  8. And don't forget to check the "Truck Shows and Events" category on this site.
  9. It is a lot of money, but if my ass was riding in that truck I'd be happy that we spent the money that was needed to keep me as safe as possible. And it does show that while none of us likes to pay taxes they are the price of a civilized society that will protect our freedoms (to bitch about high taxes). It also shows that the taxes we pay don't just disappear; they are circulated through our economy when they go to buy products such as this.
  10. I put a big sheet of cardboard under mine when I cleaned it. It gets wet, etc. ,but if you leave it to dry it will catch most of the grease.
  11. Vapor lock? Did you change the fuel line locations when you changed the tank? Did it do it before you changed the tank? If not, it is probably something associated with the tank; bad pick up, kinked fuel line, collapsed rubber line, etc. I'm not a big believer in coincidence when it comes to troubleshooting; usually it has something to do with what you did last. And my bet is it will turn out to be something simple.
  12. Nice.
  13. There is an individual that lists Maxim items on eBay who has NOS Maxim stuff. Pull the pump and I bet it is readiiy available.
  14. Nice work; and you know it was a deep hole when the gas caused an explosion in China. The last yellow jacket nest I found was under one of the Crepe Myrtle trees so I figured I better come up with a better strategy than my usual gasoline bomb. When I went back the next day a skunk had dug the entire nest up and eaten the young bees. Always knew they were good for something. Now if I could just train them I'd have a new business venture.
  15. Rose sent me an e-mail about a week after I mailed in the registration.
  16. Being as it is just a rectangular cushion any decent upholstery shop can make that even if you do not have the original frame.
  17. I have registered for both. The Mack Trucktoberfest is on Sept. 12 at the Mack Museum/Customer Service Center. Pre-registration is required. The show is jointly sponsored by Mack, ATCA, SPAAMFAA, and ATHS. Lunch on Saturday is on Mack for those who register and their guests. The Winchester show is Sept. 26 at the Frederick County (VA) Fairgrounds on Rte. 11. The fairgrounds are just north of Winchester on Rte. 11 and are visible from I-81. This is generally a well attended show. Pre-registration is suggested, but not required. There are camping sites available on site and a meal is planned for Friday night.
  18. I think its pretty ironic that any one of us would kill to have this kind of documentation for our antique rigs when fifty years from now no collector will give a rat's ass about this rig or any other one that has a "20" in front of its model year.
  19. What size?
  20. The fender welt is available at Restoration Specialties among other places. The handles can be purchased new at Moore Hardware among others: http://www.mooreindhardware.com/index.html Reproduction head lights are available here: http://www.otbgear.com/Default.aspx If you plan on driving it i would re-think the original mirrors. They shook so bad they were useless. Nice truck; good luck with it.
  21. There are many aluminum polishing products out there. Look for a thread on polishing aluminum wheels to find the various names. The guy I bought my toter from used a power buffer on the aluminum diamond deck and it looks great.
  22. For a lot of us it would make sense to buy an older Freightliner FL50,60, or 70, or any one of the mid-sized trucks for less than $30K for hauling a fifth wheel or a goose neck, but then you get tied up in the whole "Do I need a CDL or not" dilemma. I paid north of $60K for my 2011 3500HD and I just don't see myself doing it again. Basically if you want a heavy trailer hauler they have got you; pay $60K plus or hope you can find something older that is not ragged out.
  23. If you write to the Mack Museum to ask about the linkage they should be able to supply you with shop drawings of the original and most probably what it was connected to.
  24. I believe that there were four door B models made for applications such as highway crews. I recall seeing a picture of one on here awhile back.
  25. Watch the PBS show "Earth from Space" http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/earth/earth-from-space.html if you really want to get your eyes opened about how totally interconnected all of this is. Pretty scary, but inevitable in the world we have created.
