  1. Vlad; the sale is an absolute fact. I stood there and witnessed it.
  2. Looks great. Good luck with the DEF and associated software; nothing like going from flat out response speed to limp mode when the DEF software sends out an error code. We used the front bumper trash lines and I would not be without one. It is so much safer to pull that line on a highway than a cross lay. Plus it is easier to re-rack so it tends to get used more in lieu of a booster line for car and dumpster fires. We used doughnut rolls with 100' hooked up and a spare 50' kept with it. I agree mini-pumpers are not worth buying. The real expense of operating a FD is labor, even in a volunteer department, so if you are going to staff a response vehicle why not have a rig you can do everything with. As the saying goes "I'll buy mini-pumpers when they start making mini fires."
  3. I agree a restored truck will almost always cost more to do than it will to buy it, but I'm not so sure that was true in this case. It was advertised as having around 27K miles, but it had been re-powered with no indication of what the engine miles were. While the truck was very clean and unique it is not rare by any definition. I just don't see the justification for the price. And frankly my 3500HD rides a hell of lot better, seats five, and gets a lot better mileage than this truck ever will at a price of around $60K brand new. I am very happy for the seller, but I certainly would not be willing to pay that kind of price for an R model. He was bidding against a phone bidder. I stood next to the auction employee who was doing the phone bid and I'm certain it was legitimate. The TD-6 sold for around $6000.00 if I remember correctly. The buyer was from New Jersey. Maybe you should have advertised the B model sooner. He also bought the goose neck trailer.
  4. If all else fails you can contact the Mack museum for a shop drawing of the valve that should include what lines connect to what valve.
  5. Adding ground pork will make it moister. Looks great.
  6. The truck sold for $50,000.00! The goose neck sold for $10,000.00. I just don't know what to say.
  7. IMO $5k is pretty stiff for a parts truck, especially with no assurance it is running.
  8. It is mostly original and is a testimony to Mack's engineering and to the Mauro family that brought it back from the dead. The you tube video is well worth watching.
  9. Jim, sorry I missed you. Nice show. I was also impressed by the FH's, but I was wondering if the Mauro truck is original or had been converted to a tandem shaft drive? Or was the cab placed on a modern chassis?
  10. We live adjacent to the Chancellor battlefield in an area that was heavily occupied by both sides at one time or another. We have found a few relics on the property including a lead dice that was probably made out of a bullet. I'm sure was used in the same way that dice are still used today. There is a lot of things that make you stand in awe of what happened during the Civil War, but the one that always stands out the most to me was that over 60 pounds of ordinance was used for every casualty that occurred. Think about how many casualties happened and that a man and/or a mule had to move all of that munitions. Quite an accomplishment. The total death count is really unknown, but most historians place it between 650,000 to 750,000.
  11. Is this the show that was held in Hudson in the past?
  12. Congrats on the storage. Getting it out to work on it will not be as difficult as it would be to try to bring the finish back after it sat outside. Stand on it and steer was our motto; in other words there is nothing you can do to hurt it. Just make sure the brakes are adjusted properly, keep a reasonable distance between you and the next vehicle, and get out and enjoy it. Air brakes do take some getting used to. Take it out to a vacant lot and lock it up a few times to get a feel for it.
  13. Or do what I try to do; start all the small engines/generators at least once per month. Nice plan; it almost never happens.
  14. Anybody headed to the show in Bolton, MA this coming Sunday? I have never been and I was wondering what kind of turn out the show gets,
  15. Most of the conversions I have seen use another chassis such as a one from a ton pick up truck to place the body on resulting in a smaller tire size and the ability to use a variety of wheels. I don't know if it would be possible to use an original chassis and at the same time make it look like a smaller truck. The ones that I have seen that use the original chassis end up being pretty massive.
  16. I had not caught up with this thread in awhile. Beautiful work! Your problem with the clutch makes me wonder if it would be a good idea to use something to hold the clutch pedal down while the truck is in storage similar to what is used on a farm tractor. Most tractors I have seen have a small hook to hold the clutch down while the tractor is stored to prevent sticking of the disc to the flywheel.
  17. Check Amazon as well; that is where I found mine.
  18. The first "for sale" issue is not scheduled to publish until this fall/1st of the year.
  19. The new magazine is from the publisher of Vintage Truck which I like a lot. They have met with the SPAAMFAA board and have tried to include them in their plans. I hope it doesn't ultimately kill the SPAAMFAA magazine.
  20. i like the trend; it makes it easy to identify the vehicles you want to give a wide berth to. Not often you can get an idiot to scream "I'm an idiot" from far enough away to avoid them.
  21. Stay safe; glad I never had to deal with that kid of situation.
  22. It is a conspiracy among all of us. You only screw with the ones you like.
  23. The faded color is what you are trying to match. If you put a panel painted with the original color next to a faded panel it will look like hell. Do a wet sanding using 2000 grit paper and then buff it with compound followed by polish, followed by wax. Have the sanded/polished panel scanned and then use whatever they come up with as your starting point. If the paint is too far gone to buff/sand out than your only choice is a total re-paint.
  24. It is raining pretty hard right now, 0730, but the weather folks are predicting it will end in less than 2 hours. Chance of showers with highs in the 80,s all day.
  25. Happy Birthday! just remember "old" is always 10 years older than you are.
