  1. Whoever checks into the park needs to let the rest of us know what the grounds are like. If it is as muddy as I think it will be I'm leaving the truck at home. I'll just drive up to enjoy the show on Friday.
  2. FYI: Keep an eye on the weather for Thursday. NWS is predicting heavy thunderstorms with a chance of hail Thursday and Thursday night. It is supposed to be very nice on Friday and Saturday.
  3. According to news reports the fire occurred on May 10th and I-81 fully re-opened on May 15th.
  4. Is there a wash station for the trucks set up at the show?
  5. Bummer; Just remember what is meant to be is what will happen. There is a reason for everything, even if it takes a lifetime to find out what it is. In the meanwhile keep looking and if anyone knows of a B model for sale let Tim know.
  6. Mafaa???
  7. Like all apparatus you could order what you wanted on a rig. Kittery was ahead of the curve to order individual gauges for each outlet. My 52 75A from Richmond, VA has individual outlet gauges as well.
  8. Hell yes! They can't predict what happened yesterday, much less what it will do a week from now. To paraphrase the hippy-dippy weatherman I predict long bouts of fun followed by several outbursts of 12 ounce lifts concluding with the introduction of several new friends.
  9. Contact Cal Little about your steamer cap. He has a person who is an absolute wizard when it comes to repairing cast items. The other option would be to take the good one to a brass casting shop to have a mold and re-casting made. This is not as expensive as you might think if you have one they can use to make the mold from. The ladders should be relatively easy to find. Just make sure the ones you buy fit your racks. Check SPAAMFAA's web site.
  10. Thanks; I have been on the site, but I don't have the time or patience to go through it all.
  11. Congrats ol' buddy. I know how much that has bothered you and I'm glad you took the necessary steps to deal with it. Keep working at it since the surgery is only the first step in a very long road. OBTW most, if not all, departments in VA do not have a maximum hiring age. We had a 58 year old recruit when I was on the job and a buddy went through Richmond's recruit school at age 57 (after retiring from Fairfax and Baltimore City; he is my hero).
  12. Nice truck; welcome aboard. The best way to identify the lantern would be to check the mounting bracket if it is still there. The maker's name or patent number is most probably on it somewhere. If it is missing the mounting holes may provide a clue, but you would have to find the various brackets to compare them to. Do a search on this forum for 1930, 1931, etc. as there have been other posts about early B models that may be helpful. Cal Little did a wonderful restoration of a B model out of Kellogg ID that ended up in Belgium(??), so he would also have a lot of historical references I would think. His shop, Pine Hill Restorations, is on the vendors list that the museum supplies. Bulldogboy; Neat to know about Barnstable's Mack. I am in Barnstable two or three times a year and I have never seen it. I guess a visit to the station is in order.
  13. Just make sure you prime it first. I use their rusty metal primer before I apply the finish coat.
  14. That is this weekend; the show is next weekend.
  15. I have used RustOleum Aluminum on mine and it works great as is. By using straight aluminum it allows you to touch it up with a shaker can as it blends very well. I have never had any issue with it rubbing off. You can buy a product called Aluma-Brite on-line that will shine the aluminum up pretty well. It is an acid solution, so make sure you follow the directions.
  16. That's a bit ironic; it is the same model as the one we are doing. You will be on the "What in the hell are we doing wrong" call list. How are the trailer brakes activated on your rig?
  17. Hats off to your drivers. Unless you have been there I don't think you can appreciate what they went through. When we did the climb in my 2500HD crew cab pick up the funniest comment we got was from a biker riding a full out hog who very much looked the part of a rough and tumble Harley rider. As I parked the truck he told my wife "You drove that thing up here. I'd never have the balls to do that."
  18. If you are basing your assumption that they were polished when new on the delivery photos than my bet is what you are seeing is the bright aluminum paint that was commonly used such as Rust Oleum's Aluminum. Over time this ages out to a more mellow silver color, but when new it is quite shiny. I have never seen polished steel diamond plate on any fire truck, and I've seen hundreds if not thousands. Fire trucks were working machines that are exposed to adverse weather conditions all the time. No one is going to try to keep steel plate polished under those conditions. Your best bet is to sand blast or strip off the old paint and re-coat them with aluminum paint to get that "factory fresh" look.
  19. Tim, You are welcome to stop at the house on Monday night. Only about 20 minutes off of 95. Call me on Sunday. Carl
  20. Mike, his primary concern is where to jack it. Another mutual friend saw this on the board and called me. He has done it before, so we should be good. Thanks for the help.
  21. And it would be even nicer with a restored B model fire truck on the back!
  22. This is the last day to let Terry know whether you are planning on attending the family reunion on Friday night. Here is the info from the registration form: THE ATCA FAMILY REUNION Friday, June 14, 2013 • 6:30 PM • Macungie Memorial Park Camping Area All are welcome, covered dish or donation recommended. Please confirm participation by June 1, 2013 by contacting Terry or Janice Rubendall 610-589-4667 home • 484-955-0155 cell • email bigbrownmule@verizon.net As Doug has previously stated they had very few sign up last year and ended up feeding a whole lot of folks, so please make your Momma proud and RSVP like she taught you to do!
  23. Nice; I bet he/she gets close to the asking price.
  24. Still plenty of hotel rooms available according to hotels.com. Hawthorn Suites, Fogelsville or Homewood Suites Allentown West are both close and reasonably priced. And both of these properties are popular with show attendees so I'm sure you can catch a ride with someone if you need to. It is in the 90's there right now, so I'm not so sure you want to hole up somewhere without a/c for the entire week end. Of course it could be in the fifties during the show; who knows?
