  1. Looks really nice. Did you paint the manifolds?
  2. Did you re-start the entire computer?
  3. I guess it embarassed the Bulldog so much that he ran away!
  4. I had a Microsoft security update recently and after that some of the browser settings changed. I had to go back into the internet options tab and re-set them to what I was used to. If all else fails try re-setting the internet options to default.
  5. Do you keep a battery maintainer, such as the brand "batteryminder" on it? If not, you may want to try putting one on before you buy new batteries. These types of chargers will desulfate and re-condition wet cell batteries which may save your present batteries. It is a long shot, but since you should be keeping the conditioner on it anyways, you might as well spend the $50.00 or so and try it. Price wise, just call around. Sometimes NAPA is good, sometimes Federated, etc.
  6. That's great. I hope the old dog keeps on getting up for you.
  7. Merry Christmas; I guess I was good this year since Santa brought me a new welding helmet and an impact gun.
  8. Replies to old topics are never a problem. Every once in a while you will see a new member drag up a real old topic like "Is Volvo Good for Mack?"
  9. Yeah, like you just discovered she can curse. Who do you think your fooling, we all know she has been shouting obscenities at you for years. Glad to hear from you and Merry Christmas! And boy do I miss your wit and wisdom here.
  10. Merry Christmas. I hope Santa was good to everyone and that it was the best Christmas ever!
  11. Disassembled and flat I bet it would ship for less than $100.00 delivered to the nearest terminal for your pick up. Just for chuckles call a UPS Store in the area and see what they would charge to disassemble and crate it.
  12. Find some one the board who lives close to the trailers who would be willing to pick it up and store it until the weather gets nicer. Then go get it.
  13. Welcome! IMO the best site on the web for old truck lovers. Each and every member makes it even better.
  14. Given the number of CF's in your county it might be wise to start looking for a donor truck to share among the departments. They come up on govdeals.com pretty regularly. You may even luck out and find a better off VFD from another area willing to make a donation. Have you checked on availability and price of the rear at a Mack dealer?
  15. A big stack of dead presidents will make a lot of folks get serious about the price. Cash has a way of making folks want to deal that checks or promises don't. If you want it, bring 5k in cash and tell him that's it. Take it or leave it.
  16. There may be a tag on the differential housing to id the rear end or you can get the factory build sheet from the museum that will specify which rear was original. If you are in a hurry a phone call to the museum may prove fruitful.
  17. I would ask some of the other CF Aerialscope owners what they are using before I spent a lot of time and money doing something you might regret. The Aerialscopes are heavy and upping the rear end ratio will change the truck's ability to accelerate and climb hills. Not saying it won't work, but I would want to know before I did the work. A two speed rear end may prove to be more feasible. Remember, most fire apparatus was specified for acceleration ability, not top end speed.
  18. The Williamsport listing is the same CF that the ex-chief of the FD was talking about buying in the Fire Apparatus section.
  19. Mike Yarnall has a set for you. You need to contact him.
  20. Albert, Did you get my message about the stanchions? Carl
  21. When Mack bought out Beck in Cincinnati in the late fifties they moved fire truck production to that plant for a few years. Fire apparatus was also built in Long Island City, NY for awhile, but the chassis for both plants were still made in Allentown. Obviously, Mack had other assembly plants over the years in CA, and Ontario, CN for OTR trucks as well.
  22. I don't believe any trucks were assembled in Plainfield. According to Montville's book Plainfield was the engine plant and a parts depot prior to the construction of the Hagerstown plant. After the move from NY in the early 20th century trucks were assembled in Allentown, but placarded with the location of Mack's offices.
  23. There was one other element to the open cab that I forgot to mention; the cost was usually lower because they were the standard cab for most builders. Mack's standard cab was an open cab, you paid more for a semi-open cab or a closed cab. Having spent a fair amount of time riding and driving semi-open cabs I'm glad we finally realized what the rest of the world knew for at least 50 years; a roof over your head in the rain and snow is better. We finally had enough sense to come in out of the rain! It only took us another 25 years to figure out that four doors and seats with heat and air conditioning were even better yet. I am not the least bit nostalgic for riding tailboards or open cabs. They were dangerous and uncomfortable and I'm glad we don't have to do it anymore.
  24. Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1950-L95-Model-Mack-Open-Cab-Fire-Truck-Firetruck-Antique-/160929202282?pt=Commercial_Trucks&hash=item257820c06a Based on where the listing is I'd say it was ex-St. Louis because of the squirrel tail. The listing doesn't give any history. It will be interesting to see if the rig sells for the asking price.
  25. Mike, Albert is looking for those stanchions. I sent him a PM about them. Carl
