never had the opportunity to run a wet clutch in a truck.... but in farm tractors they made life very pleasurable.

my nephews wife is originally from Thailand, and traveled all over south asia she calls them "jingle trucks". aparently all the crap hanging off them "jingles" as they drive down the road.

the cat trucks had A LOT of issues. mostly electrical. very few left.

yup. when i got my first paying job they put me in an ols wore out tired B-815 with quad box( cause i knew how to drive it) .three weeks later they sold that truck and put me in a brand new 85DM 800 with 237 and a mud stick trans. i thought i was hot snot, as it was the fastest truck in the yard. then in 88 i got a R model with a 350 4 valve and was in heaven.

my first ride was a 49 L190 single axle tractor with the 501 red diamond and quad box.

the ultrashift is an ok trans...but no good for trailer work. it has a semiautomatic clutch in it. when you step on the brake it disengages the clutch. stepping on throttle engages the clutch. so when you are trying to spot a trailer using both brake and throttle it very quickly tears the clutch out of the truck. my friend had 4 of them.. for 3 years. and put 4 clutches in each before getting rid of them the allison is a true automatic trans.

yup, the X15 is the hot ticket. with an 18 speed you can get up to 600HP. with the 4500 RSD Allison you are limited to 565 HP. which is plenty. at 80,000 pounds with 4.56 gears it will walk away from most loaded trucks. i have had a few 120k+ loads and still pulled large bridges gaining speed. empty i am faster off the line than most cars if i want to be. we have one quarry where the cars all line up left lane to cross the highway, then 200yards up the road try to make a right hand turn across 4 lanes from the left lane. we have gotten wise to them and leave them hanging in the left lane sitting there with their blinkers on until all the trucks go past. then the local cops pull them over and give them obstructing traffic tickets. if i hammer head the dump, i can go as low as 3 mpg. if i drive sanely i can get as high as 9 mpg on the highway loaded.

i have switched calling the bathroom from John to Jim. this way i can tell everyone "i go to the Jim every morning" and not be lying

yea,, looks clean. and the long frame with no 5th wheel tells me it was either a flatbed support vehicle, or a drill rig seeing as they are a drilling company

the plant owner told me when he bought the place it was run on 6 oil, but he converted to 4 oil because it was cheaper overall to use. when they took it apart to scrap, they found all kinds of OLD tools that were dropped in the tanks and abandoned.

my bet is it will not sell due to a ridiculous high reserve price.

i see way too many younger people that want everything handed to them for free. and just as i give up hope for them all, a new fresh face steps up to the plate taught by their parents to respect others, have manners, and treat others as you would like them to treat you. i have one kid up the street that moved in over the summer that is not afraid to ask stupid questions, because he told me "that is the only way i will learn" my response to him was: if you learn something from the answer, than it was not a stupid question was it?

Many years ago there was an OLD back then asphalt plant in town. Built back in the 20's and only fit small single axle trucks under it. It too was heated with #4 fuel. If I remember correctly they had to keep it at least 100 degrees to pump the fuel out of the tank and around 160 for it to burn clean.

now now. you need to be thoughtful about your surroundings!!! if someone is on fire, you dont pee on them.......you toss them a gallon of gas in a plastic milk jug to help keep the fire going. 😁
