  1. i remember seeing trucks like that in the landfill back in the 80's hooked to massive low boy trailers hauling the compactors and dozers off the workface to the garages when they broke.
  2. i figured it did with what looks like a hydraulic mount on the rear side of the ladder. but it looks by the way it is mounted to pivot forward. if it went to the rear over the sprocket, it would also have to raise to clear the sprocket and tracks.
  3. that looks like a really clean truck, but for another $40K you could buy a new one. i guess he is banking on the fact it is non emissions.
  4. i hope the ladder on that 10 folds up out of the way, or it will most likely get ripped off on the first good push.
  5. you mean like obama? i still can not figure out how in three weeks time he went from being "the least qualified candidate running to be elected president" to "the most qualified" the only thing i can come up with is the democratic party during those three weeks determined Clinton did not have a snowballs chance in hell of winning, so they decided if they could not have their first choice, they would force a total idiot on the country.
  6. she has a degree in idocity from boston unversity. i think the democrat party is priming her to take over for pelosi, feinstein, and waters.
  7. agreed. but the boss was the one who told me to do it, he was a firm believer in paybacks are a bitch!! and it only took about 5 minutes to get it back road ready, we always had a box of air lines and trailer cords on the shelf. by the time i got a front loader fired up and out to lift the trailer, the mechanic had already had the lines replaced.
  8. about 15 years ago i was in the yard early and happened to look out the window to see one of the new drivers walking around the trucks. the little rat was pulling pins. so as the drivers came in the office they were told to check to make sure the pins were in fact locked, which is something almost all of them did anyway. while jobs were being assigned for the day, i slipped out and pilled the pin on the rats tractor. everyone went out, got in their trucks, and watched as the rat pulled away dropping his dump trailer in the gate ripping the air and electric lines off as he grabbed third gear. needless to say, he was the only one that did not check pin lock. and was looking for another job after the boss got done reaming him a new rear end
  9. maybe so, but the wholesaler we buy from only sells American made tires. if people ask for cheaper foreign made tires they tell them to go somewhere else because "we don't sell junk" they are the prime distributer for the area, and move on average 20 tractor trailer loads of tires per week.
  10. the bosses step father used the china tires on two trucks and went back to the coopers. we use coopers on our trucks, they are just better. as Macks said, 50k miles is normal with the coopers. and all the coopers we get here in NJ are made in America, from 15's, 16's, and 17's i put on the cars, to the 16's 17's, 18's and 20's on the pickups, and the 24.5's on the triaxles.
  11. never happen. you are too uggly to pass of as mexican... i know, cause i already tried it................they would not even let me into the country to apply for asylum.
  12. there is a guy here in New Jersey with a 400 8 speed in a 73 DM800. there i also a B-81 down in south jersey with a 350 -8 speed.
  13. as with any organic compound, when it decays it produces heat. when wet, it decays faster. the faster it decays, the more heat it builds. if left alone, it can cause enough heat to self ignite.
  14. yes you are correct. 33 just east of Millstone Rd next to the Millstone deli. was there for at least 40 years.. i first saw it in 1975. i do know it was just a shell, no engine, trans, or guts in the axles. it also sat on a steel "I" beam frame to distribute the weight load.
  15. for many many years Allied van lines had a "crackerbox" and trailer on the roof of the storage facility on Rt#130 in Millstone NJ. i was down there a few months ago and it is finally gone. the facility is now a storage yard for a boat transporter.
  16. something is seriously wrong with this. the article says this happened at 12:30 today. and was posted 2 hours ago. ....but it is only 12:25. so this was reported 2 hours before it took place.
  17. i still say volvo is trying to ruin the mack name. all the construction companies here will not even look at macks anymore with all the problems they have, and lack of parts. kenworth T880 with Cummins engine and allison trans is the hot ticket here these days. they just run with no issues. the paccar engine with eaton automatic on the other hand is a headache when they screw up.
  18. hell, for most politicians an accomplishment is being able to claim "i went 3 months without getting arrested for anything"
  19. one month should be more than enough time to campaign for reelection. either state your accomplishments, or let someone else do a better job than you did.
  20. every single congressman and assemblyman should be fired next voting session and replaced. and term limits of 2 terms should be enacted at the same time, just like is on the president.
  21. they do look purrty behind a B or other old truck. i actually started out with one like that. 16 foot deck single axle behind the 49 L-190 international. then moved "up" to a dual axle 21 foot deck behind a 64(i think) B-815. but that was back in the mid 70's. by 78 we retired the beaver tail and moved up to a detachable goose neck, and i never looked back. i don't even like using a tilt deck tag along trailer.
  22. yup. and i am not a fan of beavertail loaders either. way to easy to slide off loading. i will take a detaching gooseneck over one of them any day.
  23. that was the "MS " series Midliner.
  24. it is had enough trying to find drivers these days that can drive a manual trans. and you want them to run a twin stick??
  25. i put the plows on 6 of the 7 trucks with full fuel tanks, and battery maintainers plugged in start of december. only thing that does not get a plow on it is the daily driver. but that only takes 2 minutes to hook up. so far being ready has worked out this year, everyone else gets snow but we don't. but if nothing is hooked up and ready, we get blasted.
