i only saw one lock ring type rim blow apart. in 78 we had a flat on a firetruck. called a local tire repair shop who sent out their top man. as he was airing up the tire with lock ring facing up after pulling the nail and replacing the tube. i asked him why he was not using the tire cage on the back of the service truck he said "i have been doing tires for 45 years and never had one" he never got to say "blow up" as the ring came off, decapitating him and continued up into the roof of the engine bay. that big hole in the lower roof of station one is still there as a reminder to do things rite, or don't do them at all. luckily it did not go through the floor of the lounge upstairs, because there was a couch directly above it with two people sitting on it. i did many split rims over the years, but always either used a cage with ratchet straps around the tire/rim, or aired with lock ring facing down. ratchet straps around tire/rim, and a machine bucket over the tire/rim.

when i painted large vehicles i used 8 and 12 foot stepladders with planks between the rungs. worked great because you could easily and fast change height of the standing platform

sorry, did not see this post until now. your General Lee 40 watt radio should only use around 5 amps max, so the dash post should supply it with no issues. here is another way to wire it: run the main power wires directly to the battery. than use a large relay connected to the dash posts to turn the relay on/off. i ran Galaxy DX 88HL in my RD with no issues. only issue i had was when i tried keying up with the Texas Star 400 watt linear. it would shut off the trucks computer anything over around 200 watts output power.

the only thing i think of going down the road is "i hope that askwhole dont hit me, and i hope some askwhole don't try to brake check me before i get where i am going.

i had to babysit the "FNG" yesterday. got to the job and boss asked "where is Dave"? i said he will be here shortly. 23 years in construction, but first time ever loading asphalt. he asked where the job was and i gave him a quick turns by streets. he thought for a seconds and said "oh, we are going to Anthonys house"? that was enough for me to know i did not have to worry. spotted him at plant and gave him a quick how to on loading under the plant and i left him to his own thoughts. best part is he is not a speed deamon, he is perfectly fine doing 45 MPH in the right lane.

my old place was 75% underground. so it would never get over around 70 even on the hottest days. winter was different. usually around 60 or so. but there were a few times i woke up to a skim of ice in the toilet. didn't even have a working heater until the last 5 years there.

Paul, back 30-40 years ago heat did not bother me that much, but I still needed cool to sleep. It was nothing to get out of the dm800 after 14 hours paving in the summer 10 pounds less than you were in the morning climbing into the truck.
