my experience is if i am going out with the low boy i pretrip looking for trouble spots and plan alternate routes. then pre trip them too. but that goes back to when i ran the escort service. if anything happened, it was on ME not the driver, because i planned the trip route.

i stopped watching after they started leveling the playing field with all cars need to be the same, ,and yellow flag third to last lap to put everyone back in a pack for last two laps. which was also when all the REAL drivers retired. that was around 20 years or so ago.

yup, i noticed the arms coming down on the trailer..... that meant the lights were flashing before he tried crossing. i bet he also tried shifting on the tracks to grab a higher gear, which is a BIG no no.

I watched an old timer break his leg after kick starting a model t and it kicked back because he had the timing set wrong. He swore kick starting was safer. He also broke his wrist years earlier, that was why he started kicking the crank. I never had any issues starting the "T" because I always used the magnito to start it, not the battery ignition.

No Vlad, there is another longer video of the same truck. It has a better shot of the inertia starter, the lever used to engage it, and how long it spins on the stored energy.

problem is most drivers these days are steering wheel holders... and as such, do not have any brains to use.

go with an Inertia starter, and you will be the envy of everyone at the truck show!!!

two months ago someone was delivering a 75 foot long 12 foot wide over weight bulk tank to an asphalt plant. instead of making the jughandle to cross the highway, he made a left turn through the opening in the center divider. from the right lane of a three lane each way. because of the way he twisted the stretch frame trailer, he hung it up across all 6 lanes. than he tried tugging it, and ripped the kingpin off the gooseneck. took close to 5 hours to reopen the highway. plant had to send two 100 ton cranes to lift it off the trailer and load it on another trailer. \than they had to split the trailer and load that on two trailers to get it off the road. driver got a dozen or so tickets, and close to 1 million recovery and cleanup bill.

Paul, we are limited to 13 foot 6 inches. anything over that needs an oversize permit and escort.

My 1960 Rodgers 75 ton was able to lift the front almost 14 inches, which gave the rear an extra 5 inches clearance.

Start looking for another job. I always map out my route before leaving the yard. In 53 years I have never hung a truck up. I have however unstuck a few. It is amazing how most drivers do not know how to lift the deck for more clearance.

12 volt will work on that 6 volt unit, but it will eventually. die. why not have a local rebuilder convert it? you can go from 6 volt positive ground to 12 volt negative ground, or leave it as a 12 pos unit. i would convert it and the truck to 12 volt negative ground though.

i remove manifold if there is still some of the stud sticking out, and weld a larger nut to what is left of the stud. fill the whole center of the nut to get a good bond with the stud. while it is still hot start turning it back and forth with a wrench. once loose run it out. much easier than drilling and using easy outs.

i had a 59 pontiac venture with tube radio. usually got where i was going before it warmed up enough to start making noise other than the hum.
