  1. for 100 foot, go minimum twice the size required for the current output of the genset.
  2. i stay under 25 foot on both genset and welders. and i also use 100 amp braided copper cable for my power cords. super heavy, but very little resistance to cause power degradation. even with welder leads. i go overboard. i use 250 amp cable for under 50 foot, and have 2 100 foot 500 amp rated cables for when i can not get close to the work.
  3. i get them every day. most are from europe. i also get emails from facebook telling me someone logged onto my account....... on an account i do not have. also from virizon telling me i am about to erase all my wireless contacts unless i click the provided link.......on a phone account i do not have. and yahoo account is being deleted if i do not log on with the provided link..... for an account i do not have. than there is fedexe wanting me to log into my account through the link provided to confirm an awaiting package shipping.... for another account i do not have with a shipping company i do not use because they never deliver to me. i average 25 per day.
  4. mehhh. they are all lost, trying to find their way out of shot talk into the new thread. 😁
  5. Extention of the shop talk thread: People usually call me askwho.......never mind. 😁
  6. i dont have that problem Jojo.. i got rid of the wife. 😁
  7. ok. enough sidetracking. lets get this derailed freight train back on track and talk about beautiful B-21's with humongous hall scott gas engines. 😁
  8. yup. first glance i asked the mechanic what, ya pull the engine? he looked at me funny and pointed down in the frame. .....than i saw it.
  9. ya want to talk about funny looking engines in trucks, the bosses father has a big peterbilt triaxle with a tiny cat 9 liter in it. ya open the hood, and where is the engine?? than ya look down between the frame rails and see some yellow.
  10. because people are cheap. they would rather buy 10 $300 sets over 10 years than one $2000 set and have it last for 50 years.
  11. Paul, i believe the switch you are talking about is called a generator lock out switch here in the states.
  12. mehhhh. that rod just wanted a breath of fresh air!!! 😁
  13. i ran three loads of inside stuff to the new shop location for the guys to finish filling up the 40 foot shipping containers. next week i should be able to move all the machines and trucks over there, than we will just have dump trailer, concrete form truck, and cleanup left.
  14. yup. i have an ATS now. befor though i used a double ended cord. turn off house main, plug cord into genset and other side to 50 amp welder plug in garage then fire up genset. when the streetlights come back on, turn off genset, unplug, then in house and turn on main.
  15. yup. well said. and that is why we try now to stop the stupid before it gets out of hand.
  16. @HarryS you are being paged. 😁
  17. i looked all over and cant find anything.
  18. very quiet, and very expensive. the 2400 yamaha i got my buddy paid $1,300 for around 10 years ago. it was too small to run the ac in his camper, so he bought a bigger one and put it up for sale. no takers even at $750. i noticed the for sale sign on it at a swap meet around 5 years ago and asked him what he wanted for it. he said give me $500 and get it out of my truck. you can be standing over it at full load and have a full conversation with someone else without raising your voice.
  19. boy ain't that the truth. i had been putting off getting my knee replaced back in 2015. until december 7th. my knee gave out and i went down. my whole body, including glasses landed in the grass. my forehead landed on the edge of the asphalt driveway. looked like took a load of #7.5 birdshot straight to the forehead. doctor in the emergency room would not release me because my left knee was almost the size of a basketball, and sent me upstairs for a knee replacement which they did dec 9th,
  20. Larry, the guys at smokstak.com. onan generator section will help you rehab that set. And it is probably gonna be a lot cheaper than you think.
  21. Yup. Looks like it was rode hard and put away wet every day of its life. But for such a rarely seen truck, it survived
  22. not mine and i know nothing about it. just saw the listing on bookface marketplace and figured someone here may be interested in it: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/722899285820706/?hoisted=false&ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3Aa76c1028-c602-453a-9a7b-974abb08cb04
  23. i have an assortment of gensets. a 2400watt yamaha inverter. for away from home use. it is so quiet you can have a conversation with it running at your feet. a 5000 watt generac someone gave me not running. it likes to break a valve retainer and loose compression so i do not depend on it. a 1954 onan 10CCKB 3600rpm screamer. 10,000 watt. a miller bobcat 250 welder that is also 10,000 watt generator. and an onan 15jc 10,000 watt natural gas unit connected directly to the house with an automatic transfer switch. i always recommend getting a generator larger than what you thing you will need by at least 50% if you think you will need 5,000 watts, get a 7,500 or 10,000 watt unit
