  1. i saw a peterbilt a few years ago with a wheelchair lift built into the sleeper and no driver seat. same deal. once in the truck the driver would lock his chair in and off he went.
  2. before i retire i am going to put this shift pattern in one of the manual trans trucks...... probably the 2000 W900 with the 18 speed. 😆
  3. i never saw a swapped gear on a mack trans. only on the eaton/fuller 13 over and 15 over trans. but then again i only ran the one quad, and the mack twin stick. all other transmissions in the macks were eaton/fullers. the weirdest trans we ever had was a straight 7 speed. and i moved a fiberglass nose autocar for a friend with a 6 speed split trans. 3 low, then 3 high. i also moved an 80 autocar with 290 cummins and 5 speed low/deep reduction. to get low you put into first or reverse, then moved the shifter to driver side and up or down depending what gear you were in. then for deep reduction, move shifter again up or down.
  4. we picked up a 78 C30 at auction around 1990 with "fresh rebuilt 350 and new clutch" on the windshield. under it was bad vibration in engine. paid $50 because no one else wanted it. pulled the engine, and sold the rest for $250. pulled the flywheel off after determining it was a 400 and put a 400 flexplate on it, bolted a turbo 350 to it, and stuffed it into an old woods crasher rig we had built back in winter of 74 on the farm. and proceeded to get into all kinds of trouble over the next few years. the woods crasher was a 62 ford wagon frame with body removed, frame shortened 5 foot, and welded back together with full roll cage..... and welded spiders in the 9 inch.
  5. i had an old 66 dodge W300 powerwagon. slant 6 with a 4 speed. when the 6 went at around 600,000 miles, i put a 273 275 HP out of a 64 bananacuda in it. ran it for another 200,000 miles befor the cab rotted off it. cab was held to the frame by 1/4 inch steel plates. the rocker panels were gone, so you got wetter inside when driving it in the rain than standing outside. still loved the truck and was getting ready to rebuild the cab for the third time when the driver front inner wheel bearing went and tore up the spindle. and Dana 80 front spindles were impossible to find back then. so i parted it out. i replaced it in 88 with a FSuperDuty diesel, and converted it to 4 wheel drive with a pickup bed. i still have the 88, it has 496,000 miles on it and waiting for the new cab to be put on it.
  6. when you see an old trans where 4 and 5 are swapped, that is a tell tale of an overdrive trans. as in 13 over or 15 over.
  7. about 25 years ago when i was still drinking my drinking partner and i took 47 30 gallon contractor bags of crushed cans to recycler. the scale master asked how long it took us to fill all those bags. we both looked at him straight faced and said at the same time last weekend. 😁 the guy looked at us and just shook his head as he walked away to get our money. we made close to 400 dollars. it was actually close to 2 years worth of cans.
  8. trying to open a beer can. 😁
  9. very similar, but not quite. it did not swing out like that one, rather slide out from under the cab and than a hand rail came up on the outside. looked just like a staircase on the side of the truck.
  10. a few years ago i saw a cab over with retractable staircase, similar to the kenworth ace system: the difference being it came out and a handrail folded up, and it looked just like a staircase on the side of the truck. climb the stairs to a landing and get in the truck. it opened with a remote. also opened the truck door. then in cab, you pushed a button and the stairs retracted into the truck and the door closed. i want to say it was on a MAN or or Scania.
  11. i unfortunately lost all my guns in a tragic boating accident a few years ago about 1 mile offshore in the atlantic ocean
  12. yup b81 mack 6 cylinder. b813 cummins engine. b815 mack V8 i don't remember what the designation is for a detroit engine
  13. it was a sweet ride compared to the 237. i put close to 750,000 miles on it in the 10 years i ran it. still ran good to when it got wrecked. only thing it needed in those 10 years was a water pump, 2 sets of brakes, and the trans was giving me issues. the new trans was in it for under 1000 miles when it got wrecked and split the trans case in half. also ruined the block on impact when it drove the water pump into #1 cylinder.
  14. very cool video Onyx. thanks for posting it! 👍
  15. yea buddy. needed all 20 gears, plus another 20 to go up good size hills.😁 actually it was not that bad due to the very low gearing. truck had a top speed of 42 MPH. so i usually skip shifted on flats and only used full gear pattern on hills at low speed. when he sold that truck we replaced it with a 74 DM800 dump truck that tipped over and tweaked the frame when a hinge pin came out while dumping. we fixed it, but it would not dump straight so we pulled the box off and put a 75 ton fifth wheel on it. 237 with twin stick 5 speed. that one had a top speed of 54 MPH. i ran that until i left in 95. the new company bought me an almost new 94 RD688with 400 and 13 speed. ran that one for ten years until a guy took it out in 05 and dead center sucker punched a 4 foot diameter oak tree and pushed the engine back 4 foot. we figured he was doing at least 50 in a 25 zone when he left the road. they replaced that one with a 2005 CV613 Granite with detuned 400 and 8ll. total piece of junk because they would not turn it up. i left them in 2010 when i saw the writing on the wall they were going down due to federal charges.
  16. i fondly remember trying to start off on a grade at 214,000 lbs in the B-815. 325 hp V8 and quad box. you needed 3 feet and 4 hands to take off and shift to get going. when the trans finally died with the owners son driving it, they installed a spare that was in the shed with short sticks to keep crap out of the trans. the knobs were only 3 inches off the towers, so i was able to shift it one handed after convincing them to leave them in instead of putting the big sticks in. since we were the only two that drove the truck, the mechanic agreed to leave the short sticks in it. that ALMOST made that truck a pleasure to drive. .
  17. there is no comparison between the allison trans and the auto shift or the ultra shift transmissions. auto shift and ultra shift are manual trans with automatic clutch assemblies. allison trans if a fully automatic trans just like a car or pickup has. they have a torque converter bolted to the flywheel instead of a clutch.
  18. same here. i did not want it, but was forced into it because we sold my T-800. one thing i do not like about the automatic is you have to pay attention and make sure you hold your foot on the brakes at a stop light otherwise you will run into the car in front of you. no more kicking it into neutral and sitting there when on flat road. i have not hit anyone yet, but came real close a couple times when it was new.
  19. eaton ultrashift is a manual trans with an automatic clutch. step on throttle releases clutch. step on brake applies clutch. allison trans is just like a car trans, except the torque converter locks solid around 10 mph. my 2020 kenworth 565 hp X15 cummins with 6 speed allison with engine rake on high will downshift just as good if not better than the C13 cat with eaton 8ll trans. loaded at 80k lbs i can go from 65 to 10 mph just faster than the older manual trans truck, and only need the brakes under 10-15 mph. my truck has 63,000 miles on it and it has only had 3 brake adjustments because i do not need to use the brakes. and as Joey said, 99% of fault for these accidents is due to excessive speed and driver inattention.
  20. same here in jersey. not me. i hate the heat. over 80 i can't breathe. bossman is constantly telling me to put a coat on because i will be out doing something in a short sleeve t-shirt at 40 degrees. the cold don't bother me. it is the wind when it is cold that gets to me.
  21. i always had the same luck. nope, i aint gonna buy any. the next person would hit big time. that was the main reason for stopping.
  22. i played nj lottery for 37 years. my badge number, and my birth date never once came out, straight or boxed. the day i stopped playing my badge number came out. 🙄 my birth date has never came out. i have hit on scratch offs for a few grand. but no where what i spent over the years. it is probably 10 years now since i bought a scratch off.
  23. not to worry Vlad. we live here and do not understand the politics either. other than all politicians suck, and will screw you every chance they got.
  24. is this yard still active, or is it all locked up? i wonder if it is a bankruptcy, or government impound thing? a friend lost his brand new two week old peterbilt back in the 80's when red ball express went under. the feds locked and sealed the terminal and refused anyone entry for close to two years. the fact he owned it and was parking there as a contract driver did not matter. it was in the terminal, and became government property.
  25. central new jersey: friday was 75 degrees. this morning it is 24 degrees with a chance of snow and the roofers are discussing starting a fire on the roof to keep warm. 😁 of course they could not be here friday because of rain.
