  1. not only in 08, but also in 2011 or 2012 diesel was close to $5 per gallon. fuel was so expensive we stopped working rental, only going out for our own work because we could not add fuel cost into the rental price. why go to work for $620 per day when you are spending $450-$500 per day in fuel? at least on our own jobs we could add fuel cost to the finish price due to a fuel cost clause in the contract.

  8. $3.57 per gallon yesterday for regular. $3.89 this morning And diesel is $4.46 as of 7:30AM.

  10. i fondly remember Nappi trucks rolling up and down RT#34. a funny story about the Nappi terminal. they used to let us do training with the fire department there. one day the call came in for a hazmat spill with men down in the tank wash bay. i pulled in with the 85 foot aerial ladder and was setting up when an OSHA man came over and slapped all of us on the truck with big red dead stickers. seems the front bumper of the truck was 2 inches over the "safe line". lesson learned. stay far back !!
  11. agreed. i would not mind having a rig like that at all. it is stunningly beautiful, and looks like it was lovingly restored and cared for.
  12. welcome to BMT. sorry about your dad's passing. that truck is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. in the past year or so, unrestored but good shape trucks have sold in the 15 to 20k range, so i would think $25,000 to $30,000 would be a fair price.
  13. oh come on now Joey. havent you been watching CNN? they plainly explained the damage was caused by the evil farmers themselves to make them look good. word is they also have video footage of a few farmers getting together and destroying fields and crops.

  16. 427 is a good engine. especially with the 10 speed. the 3.86 gears will make it a bit of a pooch on take off and low speed hills, but it will be a runner once in high gear on the road. my 05 granite with 427 and 78 speed with 4.27 gears was horrible low speed off road, but would do 90 if i let it.

  18. FWD, our 1965 GMC crackerbox 75 foot ladder truck had a whopping 15,000 miles on it when replaced in 1985. the Sutphen that replaced it had about the same, 18,000 miles when it was replaced in 05. the current 100 foot Sutphen has about 20,000 miles on it.
  19. Another good one. Ask for a heater core for a 83 corvette. Or any other part for that matter and watch them squirm. There was no such animal as a 83 vette. 😄
  20. a few years ago i went in a parts store and asked for a part number. parts monkey asked what is it for. i politely told him radiator for a 1967 volkswagon beetle. the store manager walked away laughing as the kid attacked the computer. just as the kid said i cant find that part, the manager came back with the part number i wanted.
  21. interesting. when ordering the two new trucks, we wanted to try disc brakes and dealer told us to stick with drum brakes because the disc did not hold up to heavy construction use.
  22. no you don't... believe me. they are/were a royal pain in the asterisk. when we had problems with them, we ripped them out and put 12 volt starters in. we only had one 12/24 truck with pushbutton. the other 9 12/24 volt positive ground trucks were all key start. but then again, those 9 trucks were all custom built/ordered new.
  23. disc breaks do not suffer fade like drums do, and do not require constant adjusting either.. since fire trucks do a lot of braking, i would imagine they would be better than drums for firetruck service. the tradeoff is the disc do not last as long as drum brakes
