  1. only truck i ever had winter cold start problems with was a 77 GMC with a 6V71 detroit. but mixing 1 gallon regular gas to 10 gallons diesel solved that problem. i learned that trick on the farm with the diesel tractors. they would drop 1,000 gallons diesel in the under ground tank, and i would fire up the gas pump and run the hose to the diesel fill neck and pump 100 gallons gas in the diesel tank.
  2. we normally do not run fuel conditioner as we buy premium pre treated fuel. but i do have 2 cases of Howes in the fluids container, and a couple of gallons of power service 911.
  3. i disagree with this. 60 years minimum is more like it.
  4. snow used to mean money in my pocket for close to 55 years. now it is a pain in the asterisk.
  5. ny niece and her husband were allowed to return home last night. they were evacuated thursday morning when the fire got within 1/2 mile, it was about 1/4 mile away when they escaped. went to see friends in frisco. they have minor smoke damage in the house. and no power. she said they have water, but very little pressure.. across the street is nothing but ashes and burned out car carcasses as far as she can see. she did say that at least the homeless camps are all gone. for now..
  6. it is commifornia. i would not doubt it being 100% true at all.
  7. Paul, my reasoning for oversizing the wire is it will never get hot. yes i use 25 amp wire, but it is connected to a 15 amp breaker in the panel, and 15 amp outlets in the wall. i saw WAY TOO MANY fires caused by overloaded circuits causing the wire to overheat setting the studs afire INSIDE the walls. another big no no is ungrounded wire, or aluminum wire. when i bought this place, it had a mix of knob and tube, ungrounded cotton jacket, and aluminum wire. with screw in fuses in three different panels. i ripped everything out and replaced it all with one 150 amp service panel. on a 200 amp input line. but the main is only a 150 amp breaker. 50 amps to the garage, and 100 amps for the house.
  8. zuckaduck should be locked in a sub basement windowless dungeon and the key thrown in the outhouse pit.
  9. dad was fire inspector for town for 25 years, fire marshal for 15 years.. and fire chief for 4 years. besides being a cop, and mail man. i was fireman and cop for 8 years before my accident. i always go one gauge larger than needed. all my 15 amp circuits in the house are 12 gauge wire (25 amp rating) plus only 5 outlets per circuit where town says 8 per circuit. 25 amp circuits are 10 gauge. when the town electrical inspector came for write off on my rebuild of the house back in 95, he could not understand why i did what i did and was going to fail me... until dad walked in the house. then it clicked as to last name, and he said oh ok.
  10. those rumors have been floating around for about 5 years now, same as the Cat pickup. all total interwebs bull sheit.
  11. very good clip J.C. i did not know 3/4 of the stuff in it.
  12. my jump cord from the portable 10KW or welder is 6 gauge wire. or good for 60 amps max. but seeing i am only going through a 50 amp breaker, i am safe. and since the welder is also only 10,kw generator, i am also safe as they only produce 41-42 amps constant at 240 volts.
  13. if you are back feeding the power panel, you MUST turn off the main breaker before plugging in. otherwise you will also feed the main line. and when power comes back on, there is a very good chance your genset will explode at minimum. it could very well catch on fire too.
  14. not bad looking at all. and a very fair price.
  15. i had single turbo 12V71's in the terex scrapers. and they were animals. i cant imagine the power of a twin turbo!!
  16. get caught running in transit tags now in Jersey and it is a BIG fine unless you are empty and moving from one site to another. a few years ago there was a contractor running transit tags on his snow plow trucks. trooper saw them, stopped them, and impounded all the trucks for working with transit tags.
  17. in this video by Sam from Scrappy Industries (BMT user name Superliner92) looks at a beautiful Brockway. starts around 5:30 mark, and goes to around the 13:50 mark
  18. unfortunately, it is way too late for that.... but it is a good start.
  19. so true. i tried registering a 2014 F250 for 10,999 lbs. the idiot behind the desk asked me why so much. my answer was because the truck weighs 8,200 pounds EMPTY. same with the new F150. DMV idiots put it at 5,000 pounds. the truck weighs 5,500 pounds empty.
  20. nope, no city here. we are in our own little world that even the people on the other side of town do not even know exists. the closest city is perth amboy. about 5 miles north across the bay, or 10 by road.
  21. not to worry Paul, with the way we derail threads, we dont know what we are talking about either.
  22. about all i cam add is a quick google search showed there are a few electric motors for sale for $242.
