  1. You sir are one lucky dog.....owner
  2. Wow, 510 CID and only 158 HP....what happened there? thats a lot of room for the explosion to only develop that much umph. ...no intent at a hijack, it's a question about this engine.
  3. Deleted....answered in the wrong place
  4. Yeah, there were some early B models that ran great right out of the box, but some where along the way (like a couple of three model years they did things to them (probably smog related) that changed the power output and it seemed after that they just weren't ever as good of a design ( lots of guys had multiple head gasket/and or liner seal problems...and the step timing apparatus was a problem too.
  5. That musta help speed up the grocery run!
  6. Somethings weird about this....I never seen these buckets do this even on old completely worn out suspensions, convenient to have a dash cam going to capture the incident though. Glad the driver walked away and (at least it appears) there was no other injuries involved. I hope when it's determined exactly what did cause this it's shared on the BMT blog too. On a side note it looks like the truck has a aftermarket trunnion stand/ bar installed which appears completely intact, I wonder if the installer/s reused the bucket bolts and /or rubbers/wedges and if so did that have anything to do with this?
  7. I definitely would take two pair of these.
  8. Don't know if this is the right place because this is a transmission/rearend question.....Can anyone tell me what the top end speed would be for a Mack with a 14 speed (I believe this trans. to be the TRT 722 or the TRTL 7220 ) with 4.17 rears( I think) and 1000x20inch rubber governed at 2100rpm....Thanks I should add that this is in a 1966 B53 of which I have never seen, the owner says it is a 14 speed trans. Maybe it is better known as a 15 speed IDK.
  9. The truck has 397,XXX and I believe the turbo is most likely the original, at least it was on there when I bought the truck in 02 or 03 with 280,XXX miles on the clock. I have never checked the ATA for leaks so maybe I should do that... The truck runs good, it's just that the EGT gets up to 1050, the max it says to let it get up to. I have never checked the pyrometer so that's another thing to look at. I have never let the EGT get to 1050 without dropping a gear so I don't know if it would drop if I let it pull without shifting or not. It just didn't seem like it would.
  10. Firstly, Thanks for the reply...The Air filter is new, the timing has been checked twice and the water temp never goes above 200...I have only seen the fan go into full lock once (is a viscous style fan hub set at 205 ) in twelve years and that was about 11 and 1/2 years ago The fuel was turned up after the engine was overhualed at about year four of ownership, before that the EGTS never went above 850-900 but the truck was gutless, just squeezed to hard for economy as far as I was concerned, the truck would go up hill and down now with 12 yards of gravel in the box without dropping out of high gear if it wasn't for the hot exhaust. I drive it myself so I watch it closely I just would be happier if it didn't climb up that high, that is why I was asking about a bigger turbo. Thanks again ...and the muffler is a 60 dollar Donaldson that I don't believe, judging by the sound it makes, has much for internals ie: baffles, so I don't believe there is much restriction there. But IDK ...and by the restriction in the cooler do you mean the ATA or CAC as some refer to it being restricted?
  11. I have another question about my boost on here but wanted to ask this separately.....My EM6 250 makes between 7 and 17ish lbs boost and runs fine but....I have to be a bit careful in long pulls or the exhaust temp will push up to and most likely would surpass 1050, My question is can I put a different turbo on this engine that will build more boost? and if I do that will more boost help keep the exhaust temps down in the 'safe' area without down shifting as soon? It's a drag when you drop out of high gear with a six speed and harder to get back into high because of the distance between gears. Has anyone had the same issue with their older Macks? if so what did you do to help fix the problem?
  12. 'Wings' dirt back like a highway snowplow does snow.
  13. Thanks for the pictures....but what a shame to see these trucks sitting around in this state when if nothing else they could be working daily, or someone that likes B models could be giving them the 'love' they deserve. I see by the way you worded you comment it could be taken that He STILL uses them...but the pictures would suggest otherwise.A lot of these B models seem to fall into the 'You don't know what you got till it's gone' category.
  14. In my neck of the woods it would be, Casings that will cap bring around $115.00 to buy them with a cap on them, of course if you already own some and a tire capping co. wants them to put a cap on for resale, yours are only worth $60 bucks apiece. A recapped 16ply traction tire and casing around here will cost a bit more than $300.00, which is what most any NEW tire cost before the oil prices spiked to $140.00 a barrel the first time... now it's $40.00 a barrel and tires are STILL double...gotta love it
  15. ...and he's surrounded by idiots
  16. It's hard to believe they're still putting sleepers on Peterbilts... considering 90% of those that drive em wet the bed. Wait, did I type that out loud?
  17. Wow what a blog! you found Jimmy Hoffa!!!. AJA You do have a fine collection of photos, Thanks for posting.
  18. I can't help you with the problem at hand but I can bump this back to daylight.
  19. I actually see in the 10-11 to 16-17 range so I guess I'm in the ball park...... for they way the truck pulls now I wouldn't consider spending much money on injectors/turbos and fuel pumps to jump it up 25 HP, I have the pump set up a bit now and the truck runs good, just that I have to watch the exhaust temp when I'm in long pulls, I was hoping more boost might help it in that area but seeing as I drive the truck myself I don't worry much about it. when it gets up close to 1000 degrees I start thinking about dropping a gear. It's a 6 speed and I like to stay in high gear when possible but I won't cook it to do that.
  20. Yeah, the boost numbers are for sure low compared to any other engine I've seen, does anyone ever do anything to get more boost from these engines? if so what would it take? bigger turbo maybe? I do enjoy working the old truck and it does a good job as is but if I could tweak it a little for cheap that would be good too.
  21. When are we gonna get together a DEMAND they stop ruining good liquor with cheap gasoline?
  22. I don't know Mike, but I certainly hope he's going to be OK.
  23. This all makes me think the Government just found a new use for the chip they implant in dogs so there owners can keep track of em.. It'll be a new part of the DOT physical
  24. Yeah, I don't know what the real world price of the truck is, the $7100.00 was as high as the bids went (it didn't sell by the way)....and it didn't get above the reserve so obviously they want more than that for it. Anyone close to Christiansburg, Va. that was looking for a good restoration piece...and had a handful of disposable income, would be wise to check it out. It looks like a sound piece of history to me.
