  1. my guess is this is going to be a new highway truck to take the place of the pinnacles. probably a new type of mack/volvo cab i hope a set forward option will still be available
  2. yeah we have 160 thermostats in it. if the radiator was clean and the after cooler blown out i could go up route 9 over woodford mtn on 90 degree day and it would get up to 195 by the top with the fan on all the way. if the radiator was dirty alot of dust in it i had to back off. i could pull that hill with 110k lbs on the high side of a 18 spd .
  3. heat is the weakness of the e9 i know ours will heat up in the summer on a long pull if you really put the blocks to it and its not tuned up. we put a air fan clutch on it and it helped a little . i used to have to let off going up the longest hill in our area then our e7 400 and 454 would pass me that was embarasing lol. we put a new radiator in it and it still heats up on the real hot days .
  4. thats a pretty cool video. yeah the titans have a awesome engine brake my brother has the problem of having to chain up more because the powerleash is so strong. he has the 555m and hasnt been passed yet . last fall i was driving our e9 superliner which is basicly stock and my younger brother that hs a titan with a 515m was pushing me up the hills . im sure a tuned e9 could give them a run though.
  5. ill try to post it on here but im not good at that . maybe i can have my wife try to post it for me tonight. the video is in french so i sont know what the drivers were saying. . it is filmed from the cab of the cl so you can here that v8 thumping away .
  6. theres a cool videoon mack trucks inc facebook page posted by a french candian showing a cl with a e9 500 attempting to pass a titan with a 605 . there both grossing out at 130000 lbs.ghe cl almost makes it by thr titn but cant finish the deal and the titan over takes him. i would post it on this page but i dont know how . have any of you saw this video ?
  7. i think we shoulld wait to judge mt roy and see what happens . maybe has seen the light and will invest in mack and mack can return to greatness. they deffinately need to be a player in the long haul trucking segment if they plan to increase market share.
  8. western star offered 24 volt trucks in the late 90s . i know a guy that had one . it took him 2 weeks to get a alternator for it when it went
  9. kscarbel i agree if they went back to epa 98 it would increase mpg reliability . the price of trucks could go down and sales of new trucks would go up it would be a true economic stimulus. it will never happen though .
  10. i agree . they could of atleast made one classic styled truck with the ch cab . i think atleast now mack has some better looking trucks . the rawhide package and higher hp engine options.
  11. it is sad how american mfg is almost gone .. american culture changed in the late 60s into the 70s. everything from music to cars . america lost during that tiime as far as im concerned. if you listen to 50s early rock n roll its so much more positive than the hippy music that followed. same with the cars america led the world in automotive design. people in 1950s america wouldnt consider foreign cars but there children embrced japanese and german cars. i think the uaw got greedy and the managers at the big 3 got lazy didnt innovate until it was to late . i think the 50s were americas pinnacle its gone to hel from there
  12. its a hot topic on this forum . to me renault did mack no good long term . alot of bad decisions were made in the 90s at mack as far as im concerned. the superliner was killed the modernization of the e9 was put on the back burner . the e7 should have been q bigger engine to compete with cat and cummims nd detroit bigger 6 cylinders. the ch never becamea legend like the l and b and r series trucks . mack dropped the ball in the 90s for sure
  13. the titan isnt set back i measured it. its inbetween a cl and a rw. i measured all 3 trucks . the cl is a set back id call the titan a middle placed axle not a set back. also you can order a titan with a lighter single frame and 12 front and 38 or 40k rears amd it wouldnt be that heavy .
  14. mack does make a long nose set forward truck its called titan . they drive alot more like a superliner than a cl .
  15. thats the truck mack should of made and should still make . im not sure why they never did make one. they should make one now mp 8 or mp 10 and a glider kit version for ether e9 or e7 .
  16. my first mack and first truck was 89 rw713 e9 500 18 spd road ranger 50k mack rears on camelback . i was a little spoiled . first truck i drove alone with a load was a 93 rw713 e7 400 12 spd and 50k rears not as fun as the v8
  17. oh i thought it was some new emmission crap or electronic crap i didnt know about. you had me worried . im going to look at my new titan tommorow and i was woried lol. its got hendrickson haulmaxx 46k lb .
  18. thamks mackdaddy for the input. i know the guys ive talked to say they had alot of power but didnt hold together. im sure the e9 lost sales because of the early ones. i know my dad wanted to buy a 450 or 500 e9 when he bought his first superliner but was told theu were junk by alot of mack guys so he bought the 350 but latr learned the e9 was a vert dependable motor and ended up putting ane9 in the superliner when the e6 was worn out . i know where one old r700 sets now with a 375 hp v8 . its pretty rough . id like to save it .
  19. great history of the mack v8 . i have a few queations though mostly about the reliablility of the older 864/5/6 mack v8s. ive always been told they were not very reliable . ive heard stories of guys changing head gaskets every few months . one guy told me he got so good at changing head gaskets he could do one in about 4 hrs . is there any truth to that ? i know the e9 was pretty much bullet proof unless you abused them .
  20. buy the new mack . our new ones run great to me you cant go back . alot of people disagree though. to me oif you do the glider your getting a rebuilt engine that could be problems in the future you dont know how many miles and hrs are on the block and crank and camshaft .
  21. the green nazis ruin everything they touch. it wont be long and the rumble of a smallblock american v8 will be nothing but a memory .
  22. yeah lp is around they have internationals freightliners and kw now. i saw a article about them in a trade magazine last yr . it said they used to have b an r macks but they switched because macks were to heavy .
  23. i think o5 or 06 they went to the volvo frame on the ch and vision. the reason i was told was because it allowed for a bigger radiator and more air flow for the aset egr engines whicj were plagued with problems in 04 and maybe early 05 .
