  1. bbigrig you hit the nail on the head. the problem we run into is we run straight trucks with pup trailers and being in the northeast alot of salt and heavy loads directly on the frame of the truck combined with going off road the twisting and flexing of the frame and the corrosion from salt is hard on the frame of our trucks. yes we could new frame rails in our 15 yr old trucks and new froglegs but your looking at 25k dollars worth of work for a truck thats worth 25 or 30k thdn run the truck for 10 more yrs and rebuild the motor and tranny and then you have a 25 or 30 yr old truck that has a rotted cab and is worth about 10k and needs another 25k of repairsits a no win situation
  2. to bad mack didnt stay independent . if they hadnt gone in with signal they never would of ben sold to renault and later volvo. renault allowed mack to do its own thing but still got gobbled up by volvo. didnt paccar almost buy mack in the late 80s or early 90s ?that would of been a better end result . mack could of been paccars east coast heavy vocational and regional brand and with paccars cash could have kept improving mack engines and transmissions . maybe even mack e9 v8s would be powering peterbilt and kw long haul trucks today. oh well i guess we will never know.
  3. i saw that lrvsw it was on a wind turbine job in monroe and florida mass. just north east of north adams mass. i live just over the border in vermont about 3 miles from that site as the crow flies. that old mack and i think a dm800 was there hauling all the tubine pieces up the mtn . the road tractors couldnt get up the hill.
  4. also international had to act quick or else bankruptsy was nearing and im sure cummins had alot of leveage with navistar . navistar had pretty much screwed cummins over when they dropped them in 2009 . im sure cummins held all the chips when navistar came begging so i bet the c15 was first to go. navistar had no choice because they had no money to invest into there own scr system.
  5. my guess about the 15 liter maxxforce and c15 being discontinued is that because navistar is using cummins after treatment scr system on the maxxforce 13 cummins probably made a deal to supply all 15 liter engines to navistar trucks . i doubt cimmins wanted to put there system on the cat c15 / maxxforce 15 . cummins wouldnt have sold as many isx 15 engines to mavistar if the maxxforce 14 was offered. just my thought.
  6. thats a sweet titan there 2 stack superdog
  7. i know that its not easy hell i dont own the business i work for my dad he owns the trucks. he started out in 1982 when i was 2 yrs old with a 68 international loadstar single axle with a tag and chain drive husky log loader that would brake the chain all time and almost throw him off the loader . the truck had a 230 cummins no jake brake and way to high of gears for the woods lol. he then moved up in 1984 to 74 rd triaxle logger with 283 hp 6 spd he thought he was in heaven with that truck . he had alot work and break downs were plagueing him with that truck as well. so in 88 he took a gamble and ordered a brand new superliner with a 350 12 spd and 50k lb mack rears 20 front and never looked back . he hired his brother in 1992 to drive a 87 superliner then my older brother turned 18 in 95 and he went into the 87 and my uncle got a a 93 superliner that my dad bought from the local sawmill. in 97 he bought my brother a brand new cl with e7 454 18 spd and 50 rears that truck was the best truck so far that hes ever owned. people told him dont buy it the new macks are junk he bought it anyway we ran it for 16 yrs never touched the engine or transmission. we ran a fleet of 90s cl macks for a long time but they started to break down alot here recently so my dad rolled the dice again and bought the new ones. so far its payed off but we wont know for sure for a good 10 yrs lol
  8. dont get me wrong i like the old stuff but believe me ive ran our old 89 rw and been stranded with it many times. last yr i had it because my 04 cl glider was broke down and i went to take off and lost all my air . a valve on the firewall broke off was rotted lucky i wasnt going down a long hill somewhere. i lost the day . the next day a rim broke off while going up the road lost a tire. i lost the day . the next week my dad had it the spring box on the camelback broke off the truck almost tipped over. this yr my dad had it and and a carrier bearing broke right off the truck had to fix that in below zero weather out on the side if the road. this all while our titans are out making money
  9. you guys can dream about how great the old stuff is but our new ones run every day and the old stuff we were running was broke down all the time the payments are cheaper than the breakdowns. maybe if you dont run alot miles you can get away with old stuff. it wasnt working for our company. try hauling 110k lbs day in day out 100 miles one way with a 25 or 30 yr old truck with 150 les hp than most other trucks on the road and see how well the truck holds together. yeah if your hauling smaller loads a few miles the old trucks do great. also try going down a 2 or 3 mile hill with a dynatard engine break with 110k lbs on your back when all the other trucks have modern engine brakes with 500 or 600 brake horsepower. see how long you do it before you pull hair out.
  10. why is it on this forum the guys that dont own a newer mack do ost of the trash talking about the new macks . i i dont see many guys on here that have newer macks saying how bad they are on here.
  11. isnt there a new econodyne plus with 505 hp and 1860 torque ?
  12. i will post oics as soon as i can. i dont know when ill get down to see it since we are so busy .
  13. i would go with the 505 hp . i bet your fuel mileage would be almost the same as the 445 . the 505 would be the same weight as the 445 . im suorises your going for the maxicruise instead of the maxidyne . i would go with the 505 maxidyne in a dump truck.
  14. haha. just wanted to say my new titan is in route to ballard mack so im excited cant wait to see it. this is the one ill be getting to drive in the spring . its space blue metallic with mack red frame.
  15. also what are you running for a fleet ? i think you have western stars and freightliners with detroit series 60 14 liters ?those are electronic right ? your not running a whole fleet of brockways with with 12 v 71 are you ?
  16. i dont think so bullhusk. thats a big engine 16 liter almost 1000 cubic inch. we pull 100k plus eveyday 12 hrs a day so far no epic fails. will i say itll be running in 25 yrs probably not but i dont think any new truck today will be like the old macks brocks and autocars those days are over.
  17. i dont know weve had one of our new mack /volvo engine trucks for almost 2 years and havent been towed yet . havent changed a sensor yet . so i think i could haul in nyc for a month without an issue. i haul off road in 90 degree heat and sub zero cold so far its all good.
  18. the biggest mistake mistake ever made by the former mack trucks was discontinuning the rw . there have been a superliner 3 introduced in 94 with the ch cab and long straight hood with chrome grille surround and outside air intakesand a vmac v8 rated at 550 to 600 hp . cant blame volvo for that one.
  19. nice picture of the superliner magnum. but why did mack pre volvo stop making a classic premium conventional in 1993 and replace it with the cl which was great truck but looked just like the ch set back axle ?
  20. i have the utmost respect for the older drivers and the older trucks they were great american iron and the drivers that drove the triplex and quadplex and pulled heavy weight with 200 hp engines and no jake brakes , but the new stuff is also nice and ive heard a few whoppers from some old timers as to how fast there trucks would pull mountains and how much weight they would have on. alot of it doesnt add up. a gentleman in his 70s told me he had a r 700 with a 325 hp mack v8 and a 6 spd . he said he pulled a hill at 40 mph with 120k lbs with that truck that i pulled at 25 mph with an e9 500 lwith an 18spd loaded at 105k lbs. so i know that his story is embelished. my dad pulled the hill with a 1970 white with a 318 8v71 loaded to 85k lbs at 10 mph .
  21. ill sign up for the new school . ill take a one of our titans with an mp 10 555 ill load it to 150k lbs and ill bet id haul more loads in month than the old school guys. id even take a new volvo vnl day cab with a 550 d16 and do the same. then ill take an chu with an mp 8 505 and do the same .. and ill have a nice heater air conditioner and satellite radio and air ride suspension
  22. seems like any truck that has just egr and dpf are trouble. the urea is an added expense but the trucks just run alot better because they have less egr and the dpf doesnt regen as much .
  23. wow 300 to 500k ? waht would that equal in us dollars ? a new titan here is about 160k
  24. i know of alot of people that are in the shop all the time with there 08 and newer isx 15 . people keep buying them though . once you get the paccar large car fever its hard to find a cure .
  25. trade it for a new titan or something with a detroit.
