  1. i think 91 was the first year of vmac 1 ? but you could get mechanical e7 350 right up until 98 emmisions i believe. we had a 93 superliner with a vmac 1 e7 400 . ive seen 97 rd' s with mechanical e7 350. the e9 's stayed mechanical right up until the end in 99.
  2. a truck is only as good as its dealer. the biggest reAson we stayed with macks is the our service dealer stateline truck service in fitzwilliam nh. they always fit us in and do there best to stand by the product. we buy the trucks from ballard mack in massachusetts because the salesman greg day always called us back and spec the trucks like we wanted them. every other dealer mack and others didnt call us back and or tries to sell something we didnt want. there was one smal freightliner dealer out in ny i think its called mohawk valley. he is a good guy he tried to sell us a truck and listened to what we wanted but its just to far away from us so we bought the titans. our local freightliner dealer was awful they wouldnt call us back and when they did get in touch they tried to make us buy a cummins powered truck .
  3. my advice to anyone looking to buy a new truck of any make or model would be to go talk to a owner or owners of some small fleets in your area and ask them how they like there trucks and what positive and negatives experiences thyve had with there trucks that are similiar to what your looking at buying. dont talk to people that dont own what you wannt to buy. if you listen to anecdotal advice your gonna hear more bad than good because bad news travels faste than good news. ive talked to people that own and drive new macks and most of the feedback is positive especially compared to the 2003 thru 2007 macks.
  4. our titans have been good dirtymilkman. we love them . no problems with the engine or electronics yet. our first one has 80k miles on it about 4000 engine hours . they get about 4.2 mpg but thats including running the log loader.
  5. i wasnt trying to be a jerk bullhusk i was just asking a question ? ill tell you i dont know anything about detroit engines other than the old 4~53 we have in our skidder. i will say ive heard good things about the new detroits . we were looking at freightliners and western stars before we bought our first titan but had problems with the sales people at our local freightliner dealer. they kept specing us trucks with cummins engines that we didnt want . we wanted the detroit but they kept pushing cummins for some some reason so we just went with the mack because atleast we have a long 25 year relationship with our mack service dealer and knew if we had alot of problems with the new truck that our dealer would help us out. we had a couple western stars before and the dealer was always hard to work with.
  6. How come on a post on another topic I saw on here k scarbel mentions the dd 15 and 16 as being Benz on472 and 473 engines ?
  7. Why doesn't mack USA offer a nice big sleeper likes those on the titans here ? It would be a big hit in Canada
  8. I meant red elite ch and cl
  9. the red elite interior in the CL and CH models was really nice. my 04 CL glider has the red elite. it has the big storage box between the seats . red velour headliner and red vinyl and velour on the door panels. really fancy and the red cloth bostrom seats are very durable I don't even have a rip in my original driver seat and ithas 500k miles of log trucking on it. the rd elite ismy favorite mack interior.
  10. how many times has this topic came up on tis site ? I think its beat to death. on one side you have the hate Volvo no matter what they do. they bury there head in the sand refuse to even try a new mack product we did the opposite we tried a new mack and likeit and bought a second and a third. you have a group of people on here that will refuse to even admit that the mack mp series is a pretty damn good engine they just don't like them because Volvo owns it. all new trucks have there problems allold trucks had there problems. w hada 1987 mack superliner that had a e6 350 12 speed mack and 44k lb mack rears . the engine ate camshafts like candy the transmission was junk and we blew 3 front rearends in the 6 yrs we owned it so don't say all the oldmacks were great because they were not.
  11. to me it doesn't matter as long as they perorm nd are reliable. I think the mack mp is just as good or better than any other modern desel engine. they all have there problems. Detroit engines are rebadged Mercedes engines . paccar engines are European design . so if you want an American engine you have to buy a cummins and they certainly have there problems. I wouldn't let the Volvo thing scare you.
  12. We had salesmen telling us to spec our log trucks with 3.91 gears, even one reccomended 3.73 or 3.55 . We told them no, we ordered 4.30. Its crazy to put road gears in a vocational on/off road truck, but the salesman don't understand the diference.
  13. i know volvo cars are a different company than volvo trucks but my aunt had a volvo cross country wagon that she bought used with about 150k miles on it and the automatic transmission went bad on it shortly after that , come to find out you cant rebuild the transmission you cant even open it up to look at whats wrong its a sealed unit . reminds me of the m drive, volvo garage told her she would have to buy a used tranny or a brand new one. she couldnt find a used one because all the cross countrys in the junk yards were because of blown transmissions. dont make sense to me why you would design something like that,
  14. id love to have that truck : )
  15. im not the one that put the maxidyne label on it. also i dont think the 5 spd maxitorque would sell very well anymore back in the day it was a good transmission but this isnt 1970 anymore .
  16. what is it with all these guys saying not to buy macks on a mack fan website ? buy a new granite there a great dump truck go with the mp 8 505 hp 18 spd mack or fuller and meritor full lockers on air ride or hendrickson haulmax. buy a mack
  17. thats great, we have 2 titans and just ordered the third one last week. im pleased to say this one i will be driving. they are awesome trucks. im glad you like your ex pelletier truck. mine is being built in january 2014 i will not get to drive it until april or may as putting together a new log truck in january in vermont would not work to good . i am very excited
  18. you would think gm would buy this engine for its new half tons. it seems wierd that toyota and nissan are gonna have the same engine . i still think gas is the best for light duty trucks the diesels cost so much more than a gas job and diesel fuel is more expensive than gas and the added cost of the def makes the gas engine look better to me. i mean how much weigh does a half ton truck usually haul?
  19. ram is putting the italian designed small diesel engine in there half ton trucks. probably already had it planned before this new cummins came out. or fiat wanted there own engine in the ram ?
  20. just looking for some opinions on stephen roy who was named president of mack trucks marketing and sales , he says he will help mack realize its full potential in north america. does this mean new models ?
  21. i see that truck in whitehall ny at the commonwealth plywood mill if thats 3b timber ?
  22. our E9 500 would pull better than our 460xt but not by all that much. our e9 500 was a little over stock . it would hang in with 550 cats in its hey day but now we cant seem to make it run right it has an air throttle pedal and it just dont seem right. our mp 10 515 will rape it .
  23. i wouldnt touch cummins, everything i hear is mack/volvo is the best engine right now. i know several guys with 2010 and newer cummins isx 15 that hate them . sensors and injector problems and cracked heads .
  24. I LOVE HE E9 BUT I DONT KNOW IF A STOCK E9400 WOULD OUT PULL A STOCK E7400 , MY EXPERIENCE WAS WITH A GUY THAT HAD A 1988 RW WITH A E9450 SUPPOSEDLY TUNED TO 500 AND MY DAD HAD A 2000 CH WITH A E7 460 XT AND THE THE XT WOULD OUT PULL THE E9 45O
  25. we love the meritor / rockwells best rears in the industry. weve never had to rebild a meritor . mack rears on the other hand not such luck
