  1. i know i can see alot better at night with my CL than i could see with the superliner . i am not sure why mack hasnt updated the chu headlights to the granite/titan style ? the chu is selling well in my area it seems like every day i see new chu tractors . i think if they designed a new hood and headlight design they would sell even better.
  2. thats the mp10 maxidyne 555 hp . the maxidyne mp10 comes in 515hp and 555 hp. the maxicruise comes in 525 565 and 605 hp ratings. the 555 maxidyne has 2060 lb ft of torque the 515 has 1960 torque
  3. i dont mean to be a jerk but im just saying so far so good for our new macks. we were affraid of the new stuff and didnt buy a new truck from 2000 til 2012. the funny thing is we always seem to have good luck with macks. in 97 we bought a CL700 one of the last vmac 2 e7 454 powered trucks it actually was titled as a 98, we were told by many people that the CL'S were junk and the 454 engine was a gutless pig but we bought it anyway and ran the truck for 16 yrs with no big problems and it had as much power as other 450 to 475 hp trucks on the road. but anyway back to the titans maybe we have the only good ones but knock on wood our 2012 has 3000 hrs and 62k miles on it and its only been back to the mack dealer once for door gasket and a problem with the bendix brake sensor. our 2013 is only 3 months old but no problems so far. i know a guy w ith a 2011 western star with a 550 cummins isx that has lost over 100 days to brake downs in 2yrs of ownership sensors all the time and problems with the dpf and def system plus injectors. he is going to sue cummins and western star as he has figured hes lost close to 100k dollars in down time. as far as the extra cost and weight of the titans i think its worth it if your doing heavy loads . we priced a granite with the 505 18spd 46 meritor double lockers and 20k lb front, loaded up interior and it was $ 149k and change a titan with the 555 maxidyne and same other specs as the granite was 160k and change and the weight was only 1000 lbs heavier or so . i just think the engine brake is alot better with the mp10 and if you look at the difference in torque 1760 for the mp8 and 2060 for the mp10 theres a big difference in power as well. the mp10 engine is amazing , id say the most impressive thing is the engine brake theres hills here where we truck that with the E7 we would be in 3rd direct on a 18 speed and still on the brakes to not over rev and withe titan we are in 6th direct and not even touching the brakes with 105k lbs . the power is awesome too. the titans will out pull our E9500 no problem we ran against isx 550s and no problem there ether. if we start running into problems i will post them
  4. i have to respond here, you said in a earlier post that you had a 08 chu and you liked the durability of the drive train but hated the cab quality. but you bought another one 2012 and you just keep complaining about the truck . you hate the headlights and sleeper and doors , just seems like your a chronic complainer.
  5. put some foglights on your bumper .
  6. ill say it again , we have 2 titans , great trucks one has 60k miles on it no problems hauls over 100k lbs everyday on and off road. best truck weve ever had. i hardly ever come to this site anymore because of people talking trash that dont have a clue of what there talking about,
  7. the new trucks have alot of plastic i think mainly to save weight and money and hell plastic will last a few hundred thousand years without rotting away .
  8. the titan is not a vhd. they dont make a vhd with the 16 liter engine . i invite all the titan haters out there to come to 117 lincoln rd stamford vermont and drive one of ours its more truck than mack ever made sorry to burst your bubble. yes you can turn up a E9 mack to have tons of power but when you go down the mountain you might as well take a nap unless you ride your brakes down the hill where as the titan actually has a real engine brake.
  9. thats a nice looking vision and forwarder and buncher
  10. knock on wood our new ones are running great . the first titan we bought has only been back to the dealer once for a a problem with the bendix air brake system and once for a leaking door seal. other than that its got 50k miles and no major problems. we were scared of the new stuff and put off updating for a long time but when you find out that its costing 10 grand a month in repairs to keep the trucks on the road we decided to buy a new one and its been awesome so far no complaints so he ordered a second one and that ones been great. hopefully we will buy another one next year
  11. it depends on what your doing with the trucks. we tried to keep running our 89,98 and 2000 yr macks and it was costing us as much in parts downtime and labor to keep them running than it does to have 2 new trucks and maybe a 3rd one next yr. the heavy weights and off road use just doesnt agree with older stuff.
  12. we still get all the parts we need for our superliner we even just got the part that holds the hood to the frame so we didnt have to fabricate it. i think if mack only made the e6 or e7 now they wouldnt be selling to well. look at the newest versions of those engines and how crappy the aset egr engines were. i dont know of anyone that liked those. i do think they should make a RD glider with E7 PRE ETECH engines. those would sell very well in the dump truck world. i personally like the mp8 and mp10 engines . just about every driver ive talked to likes the mp8 powered new macks
  13. i think we all know kscarbel has a agenda to hate everything about volvo. me personally i dont care who owns mack as long as they are still making great trucks and we can get our trucks serviced and buy the parts at our local mack dealers i dont care if volvo or paccar or mercedes or volkswagon owns them. there is no denying the mack product has imporoved in the last 6 years. the MP series engines are far superior to the mack aset engines they replaced . power and throttle response and engine braking and reliability are much improved . im sick of the bashing.
  14. i dont know ive been driving my CL for almost 10 yrs over some very rough roads. have you been to vt in the winter ? frost heaves and rough woods roads and the cab of my truck hasnt had any major issues with it falling apart. only the cherry wood dash panels have been a pain in the butt as the inserts stripped out. i think alot of guys just didnt like the looks of the ch series trucks so they didnt give them a chance. i swear theres alot of old school mack guys thatwould rather have a 78 r model with a 300 6 speed and get blown off the road all day long than to have new chu or titan and actually keep up to traffic lol.
  15. thats our 89 . my dad bought it brand new. E9 500 18 SPD FULLER 50K LB MACK BOGIES ON CAMELBACK
  16. heres some more pictures of our titans and a new chu at finch paper in glens falls ny
  17. i grew up in the r models and superliners too but ill tale the CL ELITE INTERIOR that i have now over the old gray vinyl and steel of the r cabs. plus after 12 hrs in a CL i feel much less tired than a driving an old r series. i will say the dash panels suck on the older ch style. our titans look to be a better set up and they have a dead pedal to rest your left foot on i also think the CH type cab doors "the steel ones dont rot out as bad as the old r series doors. we just sold a 97 CL and the doors were just starting to rot . our 89 superliner doors were both rotted out by by the year 2000. so 16 yrs on the CL vs 11 yrs on the RW
  18. for some reason old school mack guys never liked the ch cab . me being younger dont have a problem with the ch cab its wider, quieter and had nicer interiors than the r model cab . i dont see why people didnt like it ?
  19. the 2008 and newer mack cabs are like 6 inches longer than the the old ch cabs so did they have to update the tooling to make these newer cabs or is it the same tooling ? also i dont see a problem with the current mack cab . yes the original ch cab came out in 88 but its still a good cab compared to other trucks out there . ived sat in the paccar classic style cabs and the there tiny no room and a very old design but still very popular so i dont see a fuss about macks older cab design. look at the rd cab was in production from 65 to 05 .
  20. i think alot of people bad mouth mack engine brakes but if they had to drive a mack with out any engine brake at all they would see that they arent as bad as they say. we had a 87 superliner with a e6 350 and a dynatard that kept shorting out. it was a big differance between no dynatard and atleast having it work
  21. deffinately the mp series have the best engine brake mack has ever had. i was talking to an older gentlemen who loves cummins and he said the mp8 powerleash is as good or better than an n14 cummins, the mp7 is rated at 420 brking hp the mp8 is rated a t 425 brake hp and the mp10 is rated at 575 brake hp
  22. id be interested in putting a magnetic brake my CL the jake on it just doesnt cut it on some of the steep hills in vt. most of the other trucks on the road have alot better jake brakes than i have . our titans engine brakes work better on low than my etech 460 does on high
  23. i think the dynatard on our v8 needs to be adjusted or something if that is possible? i used to drive it everyday and the engine brake worked fine as good as our jake brakes on the older e7 engines. now it just seems like something isnt right with it, also on our e9 the air throttle pedal doesnt work the way it used to work i dont think its getting the right amount of air but we had it checked and they said its fine,
  24. yeah dynatard with the pacbrake it makes a big differance. i wish those hydraulic retarders were available in this country
  25. that was a problem mack had as most mack rears only have the power divider and since the early 90s meritor/rockwell and eaton had full lockers in most vocational applications.
