  1. Born in Yonkers. Remember Dugan's bakery and Dellwood dairy both delivered to our house with Divco trucks. Driver could swing seat out of the way and move vehicle from stop to stop with hand controls standing up to save time. That set up would never be allowed today. Very cool vehicles.
  2. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I see Elvis everywhere too!
  3. Willie dog, You told me you had the nickname "urathane brain". Anyone who tackles a project like yours and can still maintain a positive attitude and a sense of humor must have had his brain chemically altered by toxic paint fumes. That would also explain your comment above about the elves showing up during the night. Hmmmmmm.
  4. I could not have stated it better! I have observed exactly the same thing since E-Logs have become more and more common.
  5. Mack corporate might be surprised at how much of a market is out there if we were given the choice.
  6. What an inspiring story! You did such a great job relating the role this truck has played in your family's history. Best of luck on your journey with Gus #9 and please keep us informed of your progress.
  7. You can fabricate a standard version and a deluxe edition wired with a buzzer that sounds when it comes into contact with the wheel you are trying to mount. Looks like there may be a market for it.
  8. Thanks, Willie dog, for sharing. Six months of therapy wouldn't have made me feel any better about myself than your post did! Great to know I am not the only one. All you lost was some time. I learned years ago what mine was worth. You're not out anything.
  9. You can't put a price on an understanding wife. When I come back in with my 2015 Mack with the automatic transmission, the push button everything, all the plastic, and the 150 sensors that will shut me down on the side of the road if one of them suspects something is wrong, I can climb into my B Model and drive it 5 or 10 miles down the road and all is right with the world again. My wife doesn't claim to understand it, but she justified a foolish expenditure that we had no business making to make me happy. I'm not about to mess with that setup or take it for granted.
  10. Been to the museum. Very cool place with lots to see.
  11. One owner for the last 40 years. WOW. Says a lot for the way he maintains his equipment.
  12. Was heading up I-81 this afternoon. Truck and Equipment Corp. (Mack dealership at exit 243 in Harrisonburg, Va) has a tandem B Model dump truck on the interstate side of the building. Anyone know anything about it? Looked pretty nice from a distance. No connection, just curious.
  13. Went by there this afternoon. Truck is still there with a for sale sign on it.
  14. Lived 18 miles west of Cortland, NY for many years until the 9 month long winters got the best of me. Remember very well seeing Brockway trucks being test driven on the local roads after assembly. Nearly every county and township ran Brockways for plow trucks for many years because they held up so well under the most adverse conditions. There was a great deal of pride in the workforce and they turned out a quality product. There was also a great deal of resentment toward Mack Ttucks, Inc when they shut it down in the late 70"s. Thanks for the post. It brought back a lot of memories but also made me a little sad to know that a great example of quality American manufacturing is gone forever.
  15. Stopped and looked at it on 08/08/15. Owner said at that time he wanted $7500. It's in rough shape but I was told it was driven there where they parked it in Drake's Branch. It is a single axle with an air tag.
  16. Don't take any chances.....wear both.
  17. Sounds like Willie dog came darn close to being neutered. The next time you pick up that grinder you'll be wearing OSHA certified PPE.....a cup.
  18. That explains why we haven't seen any progress reports for awhile...you were getting a little behind in your work. TANKS for the update. (Yes, that was intentional......sorry).
  19. It means overspeed. The parameter can be adjusted on the computer for the speed warning to light up at a certain mph. It will not effect performance...it just tells you when you have exceeded that set speed.
  20. Looks like a very nicely spec'd unit! All the best to you and Mom. Don't forget...all you did was place the order, she provided all the labor.
  21. Willie Dog, The dash in my 1956 B-42 has a plug in the hole where the starter button should be. Looks to be original. Probably had the same set up as yours at one time until the previous owner modernized the electrical system. It now starts with just a key ignition switch. As for the tach, if you want to rig one up temporarily without changing out the original dash panel, you can mount one on the side of the steering column with a large hose clamp. Not real pretty but functional.
  22. Thanks for all the responses. I figured someone here would know.
  23. Should be obvious by now that I married up. On the other hand, I didn't think I would still be making installments on the $4 cost of the marriage license.
  24. If I could only make a living making stuff like that I would sell the truck!
  25. Thought of some kind of promotional item but it seems awfully well made for just a display piece. I have one hanging on the wall and used the other to customize the cell phone holder I made for the 2015 Mack.
