My 82 Superliner has 400 Cummins and 5x4 Spicers. Main box is a direct 5 speed( not sure of model), aux is a 1241 air shift 4 speed. Everything is progressive until 4th in main box. Hauling logs here in the mountains I needed to use 1st and lo ( it isn't a deep deep lo) a fair amount of the time, and never had problems. Maybe that is do to it being a twin counter shaft tranny?

I don't know for sure.... Kinda looks like the one in " Untouchables" when the Canadian whiskey was coming in???????

I can relate to the paint on the chain. The construction company that I ran lowboy for had crusher crews and digging crews. And if they needed a chain for any thing they would just take what they need from the lowboy trailer. After we'd chain down dozers and excavators we paint the tracks with florescent orange paint. Funny, when you'd walk by some of the crews 1 tons there would be a couple chains with orange paint on the hook and 6 or 8 links..

Is the crane setting fence on the west side of Homestake pass east of Butte? What are they going to blast some rock? That bridge looks like the one on the old hwy south of Cascade. Sorry, the mouse fell on the floor and something got clicked on....

The twenty that we have now works JUST FINE. There are more important things that should be addressed, not changing the face on a paper note. Just to be P C. Recently ,( the past 30 years) both parties have pushed this country down the tubes. Bush senior tried to get NFTA through but the democratic congress would not pass it. Then Bill Clinton got in and that trade agreement was passed. It helped kill the timber industry here in Montana and has not helped the Montana grain growers much... J.F.K. wanted to get out of Vietnam and also wanted to say "F. O." to the Federal Reserve. He was assassinated.....

R Model questions
B MACK replied to B MACK's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Thanks Superdog, I knew the gold dogs were R models, but did not know it was from the maxidyne engine. I thought it had to be ALL Mack from bumper to mud flaps.. -
Both my B71 and Superliner are not "Pure Breeds" , they are Cummins powered..... I have seen a lot of R's that I believed were ALL Mack but they had a chrome dog. What makes a GOLD dog? I have seen R's in Pa. to Ca. So the other R model question, what is the difference in a western R model?

What is your all time favorite Mack Truck Model?
B MACK replied to Barry's question in Mack Truck Q & A
I like the LTL with that long hood and the B, especially the B 70's with their long hood. And the landmark R 700's, but I would say the Superliner since I have spent a lot of time in my 82. -
B71 a little dusty
B MACK replied to B MACK's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Not sure if should go to engine forum or stay here?? Rechecked some numbers on engine tag and build sheet yesterday... According to everything, my B71 was built with a Cummins NHB 335. I am surprised, I thought "55" would've been a little early for a 335. When I started driving there were still a few strong running NT 335's out there. -
B71 a little dusty
B MACK replied to B MACK's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I was hoping it would. The build sheet just has NHB Cummins and a serial number. I'll look and compare build sheet and engine tag numbers again. I'm thinking they are the same, but not positive???? -
B71 a little dusty
B MACK replied to B MACK's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Oh, being a rare engine sounds interesting. I'll get some other close photos and numbers one of these days. I am the 2nd owner of this truck. I remember it hauling logs. It was a local truck to me. The original owner has passed away. I am not sure if he ever repowered it? When did the nhb 335 come out? -
B71 a little dusty
B MACK replied to B MACK's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Thanks, Power is CUMMINS NHB 335 ( so the tag on accessary drive says), might have to throw some serial numbers out there at you guys. It has a 9 speed over gear main box and an unmarried 3 speed behind it. Not counting the low side, I would call it a 5 and a 3. I'm use to SPICER boxes( I know, wash my mouth out with soap, right). And 7.32 rears. -

B71 a little dusty
B MACK replied to B MACK's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Thanks. It didn't turn out too bad. I finished it a couple years ago. It took about 9 years from when I acquired it till I said it's finished. "Work sure gets in the way of fun stuff". I did have someone do the upholstery work, It turned out really nice. Yep, west of Kalispell a bit. -

A buddy sent this to me. A D10 and 345 excavator on a 12 wide lowboy. That's how they do it up north.
-
Sorry to hear of your grandpa's passing. If his name was Ron, He made it very nice when we hauled log outa the northfork years ago.
-
I remember years ago in school going to the BUD factory on a field trip. Quite a monster, those 1 plus inch thick fenders all something to see. And besides the V 12's & V 16's they had KT's 425 to 600. That farm east of Valier has 2 or 3. Have 1 in the fields in the Flathead too.

Old Pittsburgh Company
B MACK replied to B MACK's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I have an other pict from the museum, it's basically the same but has one of the owners in it. I was born in Pittsburgh in '61'. My dad drove for Eazor for a short time after he got out of the navy. He says that is the main Pittsburgh terminal. He said that when he was there in '62 or 63' most of their tractors were B61's or B67's. Said they also had some H model "cherrypickers". If there is a color pict out there, that would be great to see... -
I am not sure what it is. A transformer rings in my "clouded" memory. Found a closer, but not as clear photo of it.

That is interesting that you saw an old phone book... The MACK Museum sent me the build sheet for my truck and a CHASSIS REGISTER page for B71's which my truck was on. And that page also has a B71ST #B71ST1477 to McElroy & Wilken Kalispell, Mt. delivery date 5-7-56. Shows a B71 also went to Equity Supply in Kalispell in 1956.
