  1. That’s 20/20 Hindsight,, like all of us have,, I remember when I started driving the LJ , Mason Dixon , Carolina Freight was selling B models for $2000 .
  2. Yeah I see crap like that all the time,, I guess someone has nothing better to do than hack websites trying to get people to click on it. That person probably never saw Ukrainian. We’re talking Mack Trucks, no time for BS
  3. No doubt,, I’ve gave $400, 600 , 500 for stock ones with good body’s , Yes they offer a complete 5 window cab now. But 100’s of thousands made, old 50s Mack’s were a couple of thousand here and there . But that makes them more unique!
  4. They are hard to find nowadays without being rusty, and if you do their bringing top dollar, I’ve had 3 though the years, good thing now is you can buy every part to make one ,, I wish it was that easy for a L Cab Mack.
  5. That’s the case most of the time, I’m to the point now I don’t have the energy to get in big projects anymore, I had 2 trucks from years ago I wanted to restore , one was the LJ and the other was a 47 Chevrolet 5 window, Honestly I was offered a LJ that is now in the Keystone museum for way less money than what I’ll have in mine, but I wanted to restore it because it was my first truck. The Chevrolet pickup wasn’t sentimental,, so kinda like the gasser , a guy I went to school with had a 54 GMC 5 window, it was almost done, so I traded for it, so I’m done on my pickup list. Just 1/2 a LJ to go hopefully.
  6. I built the 55 gasser “BADMAN” back when I was 10 or 12 , I always wanted one, so this one came along and I was able to afford it because it needed finishing, I probably could have bought one completely done for what I spent,, but it made it seem less because I didn’t buy all the parts at once,, plus I enjoyed it . I still have the BADMAN model, also built a DM Mack and a dump trailer , still have it , had a few other trucks but after 50 years and a few moves they were falling apart .
  7. Yep Mech , that would be awesome to all chip in and write a book. ( Nice save with the Mack/ Coca Cola pitch,) lol
  8. It’s all fun,, I’ve been around these trucks ALL my life,, ( and about 3 months before , Dad had a run hauling eggs from a hatchery about a mile from here in 1958,59 to Miami, bringing watermelon back to New York City, with a trailer he put ice in a hooper on the front with a 1 cylinder gas motor pulling a fan, my Mom rode down to Miami and back a couple times when she was pregnant with me in his H63 ) I still learn something from all y’all every day!
  9. Hey James,,, if you will notice,, some of these guys bait me and lead me down a rabbit hole, lol
  10. Heck about 25 years ago a fellow called me wondering if I was interested in a old H Model Mack for parts because he knew I had a LJ ,,( doors were about all I could use) I remember his Dad pulling a lowboy with it when I was young , needless to say, I didn’t part it out,, that put the LJ on the back burner another of probably 10 times in 30 years. Plus I changed it from a tandem (dead axle ) to single axle, stretched it to now a rollback. Rabbit chasing !
  11. Yes Im prone to chase rabbits! I’ve been restoring the Cocoa Cola LJ half my life,, and a lot of topics came along with it , thanks
  12. It was probably a 150 or 210 ,, I’m sure I could find it with the vin ,, it’s a cool car but it kinda goes back to the comments I made about truck parts vs car parts . Take for instance my Grandson, he likes the 55 Gasser ,,, But when you mention one of this old Mack’s he will give you a history lesson,, because they all have done something, been somewhere. From the LJ that was the first local Diesel Coke truck, to the C Model my Dad drove new , H Model that hauled furniture new , The LTH was a log truck new . Trucks are just different, they have a Story to tell .
  13. I don’t think I have mentioned it, I got it from a guy that my Son knows, he started building it , put Nomad 1/4s on it , had it running, then had other projects, I bought it and finished the body and interior, used the paint code off my Western Start ( Black Cherry) . It’s been fun to take to shows , plus it has a pretty hot motor, firewall set back about 4 inches , it’s set up to drag, he was starting to make a roll cage when I bought it, I’m not messing up the inside now. I did this about 2 years ago,, Now you know why it has taken me 35 years to restore a LJ ,, too many detours !
  14. Unfortunately you are correct! I have a 55 Chevrolet Gasser and. 68 Chevelle SS and restored both,,, Big truck people are Much better to deal with, NOS or reproduction or used ,, 90 % of us grew up around these things or use them .
  15. Yep There’s really no way to set a price on NOS ,, just depends on how much you need it . I’ve been fortunate with several things on the LJ and LTH,, I bought stuff from 3 or 4 different people and they always treated me fair,, They know I’m going to use it and not resell, and I’m the same way, I have given a lot of parts away knowing that they are going to use it on a project.
  16. That Steering wheel is actually “Brand New “ ,, There was a fellow down in South Carolina who was a “True LJ Guy “ , I talked to him in the mid 80s about some parts when I first started thinking of restoring mine, I never met him, or bought anything. He passed away later and I guess his family had a auction, a friend of mine went and bought some stuff, this steering wheel was in the new box , he kept it for years along with NOS Speedo and gauges . He sold his LJ . So he didn’t need them,,, Many Thanks to him for selling it all to me.
  17. I’ll keep my eyes open for one,, I have seen couple on FB Marketplace, a friend of mine bought one just like that down in East South Carolina for $2000 I took my Western Star to get it, I slid my 5th wheel back to keep it off my mud flaps ,, i think they would be fine with a single axle B .
  18. You will be ready assemble everything when warm weather comes around, hopefully you can make some summer shows and enjoy all your hard work!
  19. Yes it was exiting for both of us! Yes the oil filter is easy to service, the 750 on the left at the firewall isn’t bad either, I remember setting on the fender and changing it. Mine has that same QR valve on the frame for steer brakes, thanks for the pictures
  20. Oh yes,, I remember riding on a tractor with my Grandpa, and riding in that C Model Mack with my Dad when I was his age ,, Yes I want to be that little boy again,,, . He’s all about these old vehicles,, he can tell you the year and what they were used for. When some of his Baseball or Basketball teammates come over he starts talking about the old ( back in the day stuff he calls them) and they have no clue what he’s talking about. Here’s a face of a little boy when I let out the clutch and it moved for the first time in his life.
  21. Thanks, the seats are pretty comfortable also,, starting to bring back a lot of memories! I installed the driveshaft this evening, ( don’t have the accelerator hooked up yet) and he wanted to ride out of the shop,,, we idled out and back for a few hundred feet,, first move under it’s on power in 30 years. He was excited.
  22. I finally got to set in this for the first time in 25 years,, and my Grandson had never,, a little more progress.
  23. The block looks great! All that will be nice on that 220 ,,, You want have those streaks down each side from those heads dancing around on a worn top deck ,, it will all be worth it.
  24. That’s a 40 Dodge coupe, the fellow I bought the LTH from had it and a TD6 IHC. Dozer , my Son went with me to get the LTH , he bought the Dozer and Dodge, the Dozer is gone, hopefully he will keep the Dodge, it’s a neat car, all original, flathead 6 , 3 on the column. Y’all are Eagle.
  25. I have been putting sound deadner on all my floors and panels, and cutting insulation to go underneath floor mat ,,, I ordered a roll from Rubber Cal ,, I went with the wide groves, hopefully easier to clean, I’m about ready to install the floor as soon as I check the air pressures,, Way easier to check around the treadle valve now!
