  1. Thanks for the Chamberlain video. The Detroit 2 stroke was used in a lot of stuff when you start researching. Our LTH Mack had a 8V-71 put installed because it was used in Alaska and it was better in cold weather. I even think some WWII tanks had Detroit engines. By the way, I mentioned a John Deere we have, a 435 with a Detroit, all there, runs , needs painted $4,000 if anyone interested, I’m spent on time , I would rather see someone enjoy it, they are rare also, not sure how many were made.
  2. Now that’s classic! Great picture.
  3. Lol , that’s kinda his motto. He would play baseball in them if we would let him!
  4. According to what I was told ,, sometime around 1958 there was a fire at the Massey Ferguson plant,( I had all the dates and locations but I would have to dig it out. ) So Ferguson got Oliver power trains using a Super 99 GM , I had 1958 Super 99 ; same tractor. They put Massey Ferguson sheet metal on them, they did about 500 like that, there is green paint underneath the flint gray on the frame and axles . They did some 97s also, it used Moline power train . I have a 430 John Deere with a 2 cly Detroit,,, for sale.
  5. Probably can’t tell much about that picture, it’s a Sunday paper advertisement from the early 50s at the dealership my Grandfather worked. Harry Ferguson started Ferguson tractor in about 1948 , I have a 1946 2N Ford with the Ferguson System logo under the Ford on the hood. Harry Ferguson invented the 3 Point hitch.
  6. We had an Oliver 99 GM pulling tractor, we sold it a couple years ago. They are fun to play with, not much work anymore.
  7. We’ve had Ferguson tractors as long as we have Mack’s , my grandfather worked for the local Ferguson dealer in the 50s , he bought a used 48 TE20 when he worked there, we still have it , there are pictures of 6 generations with that same tractor, we’ve had probably 20 over the years, sold a few, the 98 is my favorite only about 500 made. We tried to get them all together a few years ago and take a picture ( all day of putting fresh gas and swapping batteries)
  8. Thanks for the compliments , I’ve absolutely never been bored hauling equipment, I’ve Picked up something in the morning near the Biltmore House in Asheville, NC and delivered it near the USS North Carolina in Wilmington, NC in the evening . I’m retired, so if I see something interesting along the way I can check it out. I’ve put around 400,000 miles on it . It’s been a great truck, unfortunately like all many 5EK Cats, it broke a crank a couple years ago, replaced it and kept on going. A few more pictures. It was even in compliance with MASKS during Coronavirus! , Getting inspected by the Georgia DMV ( the Trooper told me it only reason he pulled me in was he liked “ Old Western Stars )
  9. The color of the dash is original ( taken from the glove box lid under the Cummins engine warning plate) it’s light brown, lighting probably bad . Thanks for all the tips on flooring, I’ll check it out.
  10. We have 3 working Superliners , and 1 Western Star. Thought I would post a few pictures of some places I have hauled equipment with it in the past few years, Mostly in North Carolina, From the Bottom of Fontana Dam , Linn Cove Viaduct, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, Literally from Murphy NC to Manto NC , and every city in the state. and many more interesting places . It’s been very interesting.
  11. By the way, does anyone have an idea or a source for floor mat material? Something that looks like the firewall mat. I have looked a little online and checked hardware stores, haven’t found anything yet. I was going to use the sound deading / insulation in the floor and lay cut a rubber or vinyl mat over it. My Dad found some stuff I used in our H67 when I redid it about 20 years ago but I have no clue where he got it , it’s still in good shape. I haven’t really looked at trying to adapt a mat for another truck yet, just trying too get ideas, Thanks
  12. Got the defrost hoses in , while I still had room to lay down. Almost got all the wiring completed, Turn signal switch and brake lights is about all I have left inside the cab .
  13. I’m with you on standing on my head under the dash, I’m definitely not as limber as I was when I started this project. I ordered some 1 3/4 defrost hose for the LJ from “ Old Air “ looks close to that. I haven’t had time to install it yet, probably need to soon before I put my seats in ( that will give more grunting and twisting room for me! ) You’re making good progress. Thanks for the update and pics.
  14. Slipped a few hours in today to paint the floor panels, seat bases . Hopefully I can set in it soon!
  15. I think your correct, I’ve got it insulated pretty good in the roof also so it should be fine.
  16. Thank you, I have room for a short muffler, When i actually worked this truck back in the late 70s I had a muffler beside the transmission, it still has the factory mounts , flat bar with springs to allow for movement, I had the local steel shop roll a piece of 1/8 plate about 24” long, I welded up the seam and, it was probably about 12” in diameter, 4 inch in and out. With a 4 in stack.( Not a backdrop manifold back then) I honestly believe my homemade muffler made it louder! It was perfect for a 19 year old, But 44 years later, with a backdrop It Will NOT go back on!
  17. Had a little time over the weekend, Got seat frames in primer, put the heater together and installed.
  18. 67RModel’s plan sounds like the simplest. If you pulled the B right up to the trailer neck , the lowboy axles would not have much more weight then hauling a pickup truck. But I have bought a couple of trucks I have driven home that distance. Like Brian said, check it over, change the fuel filters ( take a couple spare fuel filters ) the tires on my LT are tube type , put on in 1973 , I run about 60 lbs in them ( wouldn’t ever haul a load) . Pick a nice day and Make some great Memories.
  19. Happy New Year,, My goal is to drive this LJ before 2023 is over ( even with NO Fenders! ) My Wife surprised me on Christmas Day,, I had took my seats to a friend of mines trim shop a few months back, and told him I was in no hurry, She knew they were there and had him cover them for my Christmas present! Now I have to get moving on painting my seat base’s.
  20. Very nice adopter you made, that will make a smooth assembly.
  21. That’s what I figured, I’ll probably do the same thing. Thanks
  22. It’s straight ( for now) I have room under for a short muffler, I thought I would run it for a bit when I get it on the road and see how annoying it is . I remember you drove yours to the DMV , how did it sound?
  23. Had a few hours today to mount the stack, too cold around here for much anything else !
  24. That H of yours is going to be beautiful! I’m looking forward to seeing it at a show ,, We’re plugging along, making progress!
  25. Lol ! That is the only way we’re going to be able to get a older Cummins started this weekend! Great Video!
