  1. We’ll keep trying, I got a couple of hours of work on the LJ today, hooking up the compression release, had to modify the pivot and mount because of the Jake brake installation, all good now,, move on to the next ,, one thing at a time.
  2. I’ve looked at about a dozen different LJ fenders and the are several styles, my right fender has the box for the air filter.
  3. I looked at them, they are in great shape, but I think they are off a fire truck with 20 inch wheels, and wouldn’t work. That’s a fair price, I would buy them in a minute if they would fit my LJ , Thanks so much for sharing the post.
  4. Thank you, I’ll see if I can find them.
  5. No I didn’t see it , when was it .?
  6. Great,Thanks Matt , I remember ordering something from both places from advice you gave me last year! I have got TOO MANY projects going on! Can’t remember where I got what !
  7. Sounds like it’s going to work out good, glad there is no block or crank damage.
  8. Very interesting! I’m trying to track down some history on a 1955 LTH I bought a couple weeks ago. As to where it was delivered new . And what the original engine was. I am going to do a post on it ,when I get more info, I have the history of it from 1964 till now, but am working on the late 50s ( according to the original owner’s great nephew) it was sent to Alaska, and was refitted with a 318 to use in the colder conditions ,, I’m still working on finding more information. Thanks for the picture of the glider kit!
  9. I’m looking for the clips, fasteners, not sure what they are called that hold the 3 chrome trim pieces on the hood, I’m going through a lot of my L stuff, trying to pick the best and some of those clips are missing, I haven’t looked at any automobile clips yet, just thought someone might have ran into the same issue, thanks Dean
  10. Yep brings back many memories, I had several good teachers on the old Cummins, running around those o rings with your pocket screwdriver was a must.
  11. Back in the day Cummins made a “Plug “ that we would drop in the liners to check for a rolled o ring when we were rebuilding, I was in my 20s and I would question how that rubber o ring would distort a steel liner . The older guys would tell me if that plug hit a tight spot,, pull that liner back out and you will find a rolled o ring .
  12. I had a driver call me years ago, 230 Cummins, said it ran hot,, and was knocking,, shut it off and it wouldn’t start back ( locked up) I drove about 30 minutes to him ,, it started up when it cooled , no knock, sounded ok , drove it back to shop and pulled the pan and you could see liner scoring on one cylinder, probably would have did what yours did if it had ran much more, that liner is not that thick in the o ring groves, It’s hard to tell if it was overheated before you got, I think you got some good advice from the other guys , and good call on your part to go through the injectors . You won’t have to worry about it when you head out on a long road trip.
  13. That’s a Beast! Never saw one. , Thanks for sharing.
  14. My 51 LJ has the same set up, not sure if they have that but may know where you can find one, Call Ralph Mahoney & Sons, you can find there numbers on the internet. I put a Jake brake on my 220 Cummins and spoke with Tom Mahoney, Super Nice people. He fixed me up with all the gaskets I needed.
  15. Thank you,, I need to polish some more, yes the old tube types are noticeable for sure
  16. Im glad ( under the circumstances) that you got it in the shop before the weather gets messy. I have a 220 parts manual if you need it , I’ll send it up , the part numbers are old but Cummins can still change them over.
  17. It was restored in 1975 and had a LOT of stuff chromed , I’m collecting more info about it and I will put a detailed post in the antique form
  18. Nice looking truck! I’ll stay on the lookout for fenders and brackets.
  19. I got busy working for a few weeks and haven’t done much to the LJ ,, can’t complain about the work,, I need the money to support my “Truck Addiction “ went to a local truck show today, in Cherokee,NC . A friend of many years brought his B73 ,, When he got it back in the 80s it was a single axle day cab, with a Mack engine,, he put it on a newer model tandem air ride, and a turned up 400 Cummins,, it may not be noticeable from the picture ,, but he added 6 inches to the back of the hood, fenders, radiator are set forward, gives plenty of room for Horton air fan and more room to access the engine,, So I had a good dose of motivation today!
  20. I can’t recall seeing that happen before, I have had the top flange break and drop the complete liner, probably all caused by setting for years,,, mine may be the same way. Hopefully just cylinder kits , bearings and gaskets. It’s just a big hassle to pull it having to take care of all the perfect paint.
  21. O my ! Im sorry about the engine problem ,, I have had a few Cummins getting coolant in the pan , hopefully when you pull the pan you can add a little pressure while it’s still full of coolant and see were it’s dripping down at ,, I have the same concern about my 220 because even though I was the last to drive it with a load , and it ran great,, it’s been setting since 1990s , I have started it and it’s full of coolant, but I’ve not worked it.
