That’s going to look Great,, That Radiator is the Eye Catcher on the B73s , even in old pictures they pop out ,,, And that will be magnified by all the beauty around it on yours ! I got my fenders back yesterday, just hung them on to get a idea on cutting the back off another set,,, This is probably going to be the most challenging job yet ( Still hoping a set will pop up,, But LJs are hard to find parts for) Cab is ready for primer , We are going forward! -

Just wanted to say Thank You Matt ! , For the L Cab parts, the weekly updates and pictures, the tips on body work, And MOSTLY on the encouragement on my LJ that I used when I got out of High School in the late 70s ( picture) , I put off working on it till 1995 , Then took it apart when my son was 6 ( picture) , and parked it in a shed for 20 years! I got it out about 2 years ago and am rolling along pretty good with the Motivation of You & ALL the folks that commit and share ideas on Your work, which is perfect! I can’t wait to see The B73 in person! Dean -

Very nice! I can see you put a lot of time in those, It will all pay off when you put the finish color on them. Rained all day down here, I spent most of the day organizing what I have to have sandblasted, What’s ready for primer. I sent my fenders to be blasted, next step is cutting up 4 to make 1 good set . Thanks for my mid week Motivation Pictures! -

By the way I’m still looking for a set of LJ fenders, I have 3 sets , The ones that came on it have the “Horns “ that goes against the Radiator Shroud,, the back of both are rotten, I have some fairly good ones off a LJ gas parts truck, I may end up cutting 4 to make 2 ,, Not sure how that will come out, still looking if anyone has any leads on any. -

Beautiful! I dropped by the paint store today and bought a gallon of epoxy primer for the LJ ,I can’t wait to see the cab all one color ( even if it is gray primer) . Watching you paint everything separately and putting it all together is like watching someone building a High Precision Detail Model! -

OH My that looks Great! And also thank you for the Motivation,,, I’ve worked on this LJ more watching you in the past year,, then the past 30 years! ( I Drove this LJ when I got right out of High School , I joke with my Wife when she calls me at the shop, and ask what’s going on,, I say I’m working on the same truck I was when you first met me! 43 years ago! .) -

What kind of marker lights did you use ? Mine were trash, One of my parts LJs has a decent looking set of 517s on it but the gaskets are rotten and I’m sure I would have to replace the bulb sockets . Not that far along yet, just trying to make a list, I’m trying to make it end up looking like it was when Coke bought it new. My head liner and interior is probably going to be the next big hurdle, The cab is getting close to start putting some paint on . ( I’m trying to catch up on my 2 weeks detour on playing with Jake Brakes , lol ) -
Coca Cola LJ Mack colors
1961H67 replied to 1961H67's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I checked the local Coca Cola Distributor,, they have a few old pictures of trucks with the same colors ( as best I can tell because they are black & white) but none of My Truck ,, Mack only knows it was Red ,, I have sanded off enough to get all the break lines and took pictures,, I’m just going with that , still curious about the black door glass frame,, I’m going back with it anyway. As for the “Ram Air Induction “ on the parts LJ ,, it’s a piece of stainless covering the wire mesh for the air intake,, It’s actually made very well, somebody’s idea for more air I guess. -
Coca Cola LJ Mack colors
1961H67 replied to 1961H67's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Yea we had a HO-JO nearby when I was growing up , I wish it was still around! I also have a parts LJ that was Green, it has had the door frames painted White?? Never noticed this on old trucks until I started thinking about trying to repaint this to the original owners color . -
I’m restoring a 51 LJ , I drove this truck in the late 70s , the owner said it was bought new in Asheville NC buy the local Coke distributor, The paint was faded terrible, I sprayed it light blue just to make it one color. I want to paint it back original Coke ( According to the Mack Museum it was shipped to Asheville , September 51 All Red ) , Then it was Painted Coke Yellow , Cab , bottom of doors and fenders . The Roof was white & down around the windows . The top of hood and radiator shroud was Black. I have a question about the tops of the door frame painted black, you can see the original paint when I removed the mirrors. I have found 1 other truck with black door frames a old Howard Johnson truck. Possibly the color scheme back then was left up to the local Bottling Co ? Just Wondering about the door frames, Thanks if any ideas.

Yes ! Tom also offered me the fixture to grind my rockers! ( I didn’t need it because I used the rocker housing’s from my donor engine) He is a great Guy,, I had only talked to him once before. His Dad is still able to give advice! ( He’s 92 ) He told me the Model 20s were the same color as the engine when they came out new, like you have yours ,, I just like the Jake Green look. I see the difference in the housings . David Strickland has a set with “1963” on them,, I’m going to visit him tomorrow, I’ll look at the casting on them. I was Blessed too grow up around Old trucks , mostly Mack’s , and I’ve got to know Many Good people!

I was worried about finding Gaskets for the Jake Brake,, I got in touch with Tom Mahoney at Mahoney & Sons , he is very knowledgeable on the old Cummins, he got me a complete set of gaskets. I wanted the exact Jacobs's Green, ( Just to show them off ) Tom got in touch with Dave Pearman of Jacobs ,, He gave us the Original color code ( Pantone 348 Green, which my local DuPont store mixed) ,, Many thanks to Both these guys for their interest in my project !
