  1. I found some old posts on here that said you just need to switch the wires on the back...but that didn't work. The gauges are labeled positive ground. This is for my 74 brockway they look just like the mack gauges of the same era but with chrome trim instead of black. They are not like the 82000 series SW gauges in the older trucks. Does anyone know who made these or have part numbers for them in neg. ground. The ones i need are fuel, temp, and volts. Or can i open these up and change them around internally.

  3. What those guys said plus. Be especially careful if you got an old school lowbed . Check the SLR (static loaded radius fancy wording for what will be the height of the center of your axles when the thing is loaded) for the tires your are getting. The 10.00 and 11.00 fifteens are tall tires 235 or 245 17.5 are the best you can get but they still aren't as tall. The frames on these type trailers ride close to the ground as it is. Also you won't find a tubeless tire that will be rated for nearly as much weight as a ten hundred fifteen but this not usually an issue because not many people actually put( nor states allow) a 35 or 40 ton load on these type trailers anymore.

  5. A decent junkyard will have what you need for hubs . the hubs will probably be cheeper than all the new seals,bearing, and races you'll be wanting to put in them. You will want hub pilot/unimount if you want easy. Personally i think that there is nothing easier than spokes(especially if you aren't setup with good tools) but to each his own.
  6. I' am impressed. Especially with the hours. Those ain't hiway miles. 32metric ton(70528lbs.) loads in a ten wheeler now that is impressive. I presume they meant gross weight.
  7. Vlad pretty much covered it. But it would be helpful if you tell us what you want to accomplish with this "upgrade". for example do you just want the aluminum look or do you need more road speed or ground clearance or weight capacity etc. Also let us know what axles you have. This will allow us to help better as preferences will vary with application.
  8. "Mack is trumpeting the virtues of its engines" That is funny because the current engines from mack have absolutely nothing in common with the e7. I would like to know more about this model CHR. In the states the only CH dump/ tipper trucks i have ever seen were converted tractors.
  9. You bring up an interesting point about throttle position. The truck with the best throttle imho that i ever drove was a 1987 flc frieghtliner. the throttle shaft pivoted about a third of the way up so could put your whole foot on it and just rock it back and forth. I always wondered why noone else used this setup it . I have a 1979 w900 and i love the dash in it ,but i've been in newer KW and they do look too plastic ( so does most everything else though). I only ever drove one peterbilt dump truck( a 357) i hated it . It could move material from point a to point b and it was light, that was all it had going for it. You definitely didn't want to use it for site work ( like a real truck e.g. a mack). It all depends what he wants to do with the dump truck but i would not recommend air ride.
  10. Now you guys have got me curious. I always thought it was the other way around (especially with vocational). Perhaps you could enlighten me as to why you guy s like the Pete better than the KW. Question for the OP when you say new is that new to you or brand spankin new?
  11. 1674 cat, 8LL, drop in rockwells 6,44 ratio , rockwell six rod suspension. Its the suspension i am most curious about. i wonder how it compares to camelback? of course nothing actually compares to camelback.
  12. It looked like it hit a bridge when i got it. i spent considerable time reworking it. the rear hinges were ripped right out. i was able to resuse the cab protector from the vintage aluminum body.

  14. I agree i think that my 96 rd mechanical e7 was probably the best dump truck ever. However many guys/ companies are afraid of older trucks, and when comparing these newer units if the volvos are blowing up i can't see why macks would be any different they have the same basic engines
  15. That's the plan. I used to run an RD but i sold it a couple years ago. Now i 'am ready to quit the desk job and get behind the wheel again.
  16. I've been working on the Brockway for the last couple weeks. I bought a used steel dump body from a junk yard to replace the original penn dump body which was really beat. Anyway i hope to have it back on the road soon.
  17. I think many on here hate the vhd because its a volvo (and no-one likes what volvo has done to Mack), but i am not convinced it is a bad truck. The truck the OP mentions seams to be speced right for the job. Is there a real business reason he shouldn't buy it besides "volvos suck." There is an owner operator around here that has been driving the same one since around 02. Of course it has no soul but it is still on the road.

  22. that depends on what size tires you want to run. If it was mine i would run 4.17 with 22.5s or 4.42 with with 24.5s.
  23. Use a volt meter to check what the actual output of your charger is. Mine on 6 high will charge an 8 just fine. As long as it puts out more than 8v but less than 10 i would use it. I watched guys at a truck auction jump start with 24v because it starts em faster( i think man i don't know what them computers can handle but i would not want to find out). Anyway, i wonder if your voltage regulator is adjusted for six or eight. Perhaps you could rig up something to spin your generator if you don't wish to use your charger.
  24. $3200 or there about. I wasn't there but my brother was. he said it was pretty rough. looks good on the picture here though.
