  1. From the album: 1962 b61sx

got some time to work on this this weekend
  2. I 'am thinking some hire work would be nice while i build up my excavating business. I used to do all hire work with my RD and i liked it. I know this truck will be fine ( better than some big hp air ride peterbilt )for the kind of work i like to do. I just don't know if anyone who is hiring recognizes that. Most people just see an OLD truck. Anyway i haven't quit my day job yet. As far as the tires i think i' am going to go with the 12r24.5s for now and keep my eyes open. for 20 inch hubs. I have some good contacts in the junkyard business something will come up eventually.
  3. Thanks for the encouraging comments. I just bought this truck yesterday. Previous owner ( asphalt contractor ) told me he would load 22 tons in it. I stopped and weighed it on the way home 26,780lbs. The body is smaller than i'am used to (15' 4"). the RD688s that i used to have had 17.5 ft body i always ran 315's on that truck and i think i remember being close to 20,000lbs axle up. This truck spent its recent years as a site truck and is going to need some tlc before its ready for dot check. I' am based in Berks county PA.
  4. Thanks, i like it. front tires is what i'll need. the rear are 10.00r22 those i can find fairly easy as takeoffs
  5. The engine is a 1674 cat. 270 hp. Float tires or a 315 is what i would like ,but as stated they fit a 20 inch spoke . This truck has 22 inch hubs on it. I don't know how hard it will be to find 20 inch hubs for it. it is a rockwell fl901 front axle with wedge brakes.
  6. This is the truck I'am working on. so switching to 20 inch rubber won't be easy (probally cheapest to just put a hub pilot axle under there) Sorry not a mack this time
  7. What kind of 22 inch tire will support an 18,000 lb axle. Did they make a 12.00x 22? , i can't find any info on them. i know some guys run a 12r24.5 on tri-axle dumps but i'e yet to see one that is rated for the weight.
  8. It is probally to far for you (Reading PA) but My brother says he has these in his yard on wheels. $ 500 for all six.
  9. Thanks for looking . I didn't even see blocks for relining in my euclid book. I know for sure i have the fa601 axle but i need to verify the brake size.
  10. That is the size listed in the wiki for a fa601 axle. i haen't actually measured my brakes yet. 1962 b61sx
  11. Are these availble new. I did not call the dealer yet, but i did look in a euclid book. i saw nothing in 17.25
  12. I don't know that much about tip turbine. i thought they all were had water cooling. Anyway the one i has two small water pipes going into the front of it. s One thing i have been wondering about is the turbo. will the one from the e6-350 work with the tip turbine.
  13. Where? What size body? and how many axles do you want?
  14. I have a 2ve6-350 that was air to air and i want to change it to tip turbine so it will fit in my b61. i also have a complete 285 that i can get parts from. What were the differences between tip turbine 350s ( endt678?) and front mounted air to air e6-350s. I was going to just put the 285 in the truck but i would much rather have the econdyne than maxidyne.
  15. Same guy says "engine break" i think he means broken
  16. From the album: 1962 b61sx

    started work on this today
  17. Using the head bolts occured to me but i wasn't sure if i would be causing head gasket problems later on by loosening and retorqing them. are you saying this isn't an issue?
  18. I picked up a used engine this weekend part of the intake manifold was broken from improper lifting. I have never seen mack with lifting eyes like other manufactureers. So are the best lifting points? I know its not the water pump (Have seen more than one ripped right off). I would make some brackets but where to bolt them?
  19. i got some pricing today. must say it wasn't as bad as i thought. sumitomo st508 in 11r24 $615 with tube and flap. sailun s917 12r24 ( man these things look aggresive) $545 no tube or flap.
