Is blue truck above "shorter"?

Are you saying that the A denotes long hood? Because my 1979 w900a was not a long hood.

Ok, I was wrong. In the second pic it didn't look to me like there was much space between the fender and the fuel tank.

This is true for the older trucks but at some point( probably around the time r models came out idk) 44 and down moved to inside the frame mounts. "Elephant ears" remained on the bigger stuff. Also 44's which at one time were a two piece axle eventually became a one piece. Do the current volvo framed macks still use "elephant ears" on the 58s and 65s?

Interesting how it seems like almost everything in North American trucking is somehow connected to White. Lets see White Freightliner, White Western Star, White Autocar/GMC/ Volvo/Mack, Diamond Reo. Looks like Paccar products are the only ones that aren't connected to White now.

Good to know. Always like to hear real world results. On their website they sell dial indicator type tools for checking your tires runout. Would be interesting to use such a tool on different types of wheel mounting systems. When i change the tires on the brockway i just use the old block of wood method. I'am not sure if the guys at the tire shop even do that.

Of course the whole thing made me chuckle thinking about people worrying if their hub pilot wheels were the tiniest bit out of true because i run spokes on my daily driver.

Ironic that i was just reading about this http://www.tru-bal.com product today and then i come here and see this post. Essentially it takes hub piloted wheels and recenters them to the studs.... making me wonder were stud piloted wheels better all along?

I was kinda thinking the same thing in reverse. Why in the world would someone order an sx with 55,000 lb rears and only put the little axle up front. Thought maybe it started life as a tractor. All excellent trucks though. First one is my new favorite truck.

I attribute some of the cummins hollow/knocky sound at idle to their weird single piston air compressor.

Good truck. 290 small cam with Jake brake , 13spd roadranger, SSHD rears. 19ft body 60" sides plus 6" boards. Pa state inspected. Can drive anywhere. Recent work Includes rear brakes, drums, s-cams, Replaced hydraulic cylinder. Good Tires. All virgin rubber except lift axle. Truck was working daily until the end of the year. I need to get something with a smaller steel body for the work i'am doing currently. I'am looking for a solid truck with a 16-17.5 foot steel body. Asking 15,000 for the Brockway.

It does not say but perhaps that is not a loaded radius. different tires flex differently especially radials vs. bias. Anyway the bridgestone book gives a static loaded radius of 22.2 and revs per mile of 432 for 12.00r24 that not that different from what you posted

They interchange because of the difference in profiles between a tube type and a tubeless rim. Tube type are easy to spot because of the wide flange where the tire meets the rim, they also are flat across the middle. Tubeless are the opposite narrow flange at the tire but dished in the middle. All .5 sizes are tubeless and conversely "hundred" ( 12.00, 11.00, 10.00, etc) sizes are tube type. Example: 11.00r22 is tube type but 11r22.5 is tubeless and they each go on different hubs. Hubs: 15 in.= 15" tube type or 17.5 tubeless (mostly trailer sizes) 20 in.= 20" tube type or 22.5 tubeless 22 in. = 22" tube type or 24.5 tubeless 24 in.= 24" tube type NO tubeless tires I hope that is clear without beating a dead horse.

actually the rim is bigger too. 24.5 rims go on 22 inch spokes just as 22.5 rims go on 20 inch spokes. afaik there are no tubeless tires( the .5 sizes) to go on 24 inch spokes.
