  1. If your still looking i would check this outhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/1982-mack-r-688st-tri-axle-dump-/201297401863?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2ede429807&item=201297401863&pt=Commercial_Trucks
  2. That is not nearly as much as much I thought it would be.
  3. 100 percent coal here. Plan to do homemade waste oil if i ever get a shop built
  4. This thread has got me wondering what is the weight penalty of going with the titan vs say the granite for a vocational truck. In this area there have always been plenty of RW and CL dump trucks along with the more common RD, CV, GU, but i have yet to see a Titan dump in real life.
  5. I am curious . Is he saying that if you take an unsafe driver and give him more money he is now safer OR is he saying that by offering more money in the hiring process you attract more experienced/safer drivers. It's not clear from this article.
  6. You could get something like this http://www.truckpaper.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=5805963 and then you could put your skills and enthusiasm( that we have all seen on your b61) to work putting a pre-92 flat hood on it. You would have to rework the cowl a little but it would look the way you want and you would get an e7 which is a big plus in my book.
  7. I was curious also. What were his axle weights like? I don't think i' ve ever seen a group of five like that. The extra set of brakes might be nice but here in PA four close is the most i' ve seen.
  8. I know my b61sx's have triple frames but i wasn't sure if the rdsx always has one. The guy listing it said double frame but i don't put much faith in listings.
  9. S Seams there are quite a few of us from this little corner of the world. I' am one exit west.
  10. SX models are great trucks but if you are still thinking of getting paid by the ton i think a plain RD is better check out the difference in tare weights. For reference my old double framed rd688s with a 17.5ft steel body weighed 25,300 That truck your looking at looks tuff but heavy.
  11. Engine RPM x 60 / (Axle Ratio x Tire Revolutions per Mile x Transmission Ratio) = Top Road Speed (MPH) 2100x60/ (axle ratio x476 x .69)=70 126000/ (axle ratio x 328) =70 126000/axle ratio= 22960 axle ratio=126000/22960= 5.48 Probably want something slightly numerically lower so your not running up against the governor to do that 70mph
  12. Good choice on the ratio. Perhaps it is because I;am cheap but i would check a junk yard. 38s are not in high demand anymore. I know around here a good used set of center sections can be had for around a thousand bucks.
  13. Not a KW expert here. I didn't even know they made a flat hood t800. I've seen plenty of the wide hood ones. When do they get the flat hood is it for bigger engines or something? To me that looks like a lowered c500... i like it.
  14. What trans and what size tire? 4.17 is one of the cheapest to find used however i think they are a little fast unless you are running small rubber( 22.5). i would prefer 4.42 with 24.5 tires.
  15. welcome
  16. Ok, I am willing to look ignorant.. what is blue metal?
  17. It Depends on a couple things. Most important in my mind are: 1. what do you mean by triaxle work? There is a huge difference and range in-between the guy getting paid by the ton/mile and a guy who hauls an occasional load of stone but mostly works onsite. 2. Gearing is more important than HP. Transmission along with your axle ratio. Will determine your crawl ratio and your road speed. You need to be low enough to not be slipping clutch when you are creeping around but you won't want to be gear bound if hiway speed is important to you. 3. Since you said its a DM I'll assume ( never seen anything less than 44s in one) its up to the Task. But you might not like the light weight or you might not care goes back to 1
  18. i would have said a 360..but i like the way you think.
  19. Up until two years ago I would regularly gross 120,000+ with my aluminum framed 79 w900. No worries truck handled it fine.
  20. Almost done now. but i don't i don't know what to put in the trunion for lube. i' am pretty sure it is some type of oil, but my end caps have had grease zerks installed by someone. they probably did this once the seals blew out.
  21. Here in PA a 17.5ft body is about standard on a triaxle 73280 lbs gross we are allowed. 227" wheelbase on an R model makes a nice truck. I always thought if you have just a little more yardage than tonnage it works out pretty good for general hauling. Interesting that my brockway had such a small (15 ft) body i just found out it was originally sold in Tenn.
  22. Sounds pretty sexist to me. Automated transmissions... how insulting. I have worked quite a few female drivers some were good and some were not just like the men. Point being gender is not what makes a good driver or not.
  23. I' am not surprised that a salesman would tell you that but it is not true. Mack axles have been available with an interwheel power divider for a long time. It uses "peanuts" just like the Mack automatic power divider.
