I'd trade any new truck for a Superliner today. -
Working Superliner's
Bullheaded posted a topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
I'll double post my pic from my other thread about this working Superliner I see every day up here pulling a set of B-Train possum bellies. And got a pic of my friend's Superliner truck and pup that lives up here where i am working. He is going to get it painted again, has a few battle scars now. It originally had an E6 350 but it got to the point it needed engine work and he wanted a bit more power so he put an N14 Cummins in it. -
Happy Birthday!

There's an application I have never seen a General used for.....a mixer truck. I've ran them as dump trucks. They were a good tough truck. And of coarse, the good old Paystar 5000. Those and the Mack DM and DMM's were the kings of mixers for most of history.

You would have to find a build date on it to prove the engine was made before Jan 1, 2000. But most MTO don't look at engine, they would go off build date on your door tag. In which case you would need E-Log because it is an electronic engine.

Mack RD CAT Swap?
Bullheaded replied to Nick Mack RDS's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Well before you even do any injection pump, injector or turbo work, try this. If your truck has been set to pass an emission test, etc......your puff limiter might be shimmed up to the point I have seen E6 and E9 motors completely gutless. What I first did to mine was take the air line off and plug it with a roofing nail. Yes it will puff black smoke on takeoff and every shift until the turbo catches up, but it will make a huge difference in throttle response which will make it feel stronger. It really woke my 88 up. But what I did later was I ran the air supply line through an air switch in my dash. (my truck was originally a 12 speed but switched to a 15.) So I used the 12 speed deep reduction switch. That way there the puff limiter could be kept shimmed up legal where it passed E-tests, then on the road I could just flip it off and run strong. Try that first, it's easy and cost nothing. -
Mack RD CAT Swap?
Bullheaded replied to Nick Mack RDS's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Ya, not really worth it. You can build an E6 or E7 to run strong for cheaper than the conversion would cost. -
Man, that's a bummer. Still trying to recover from the Maxxforce, now this happens. They're sure having a tough time rebuilding their reputation. I have been talking to some guys that have new A26's in both dump trucks and highway trucks and so far the ones I talked to like them and said they have had no emission issues yet. I am currently working with 2 of them in new HX dump trucks and one thing I do notice....they are extremely quiet compared to any other engine.

Mack RD CAT Swap?
Bullheaded replied to Nick Mack RDS's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
My old 88 E6 350 pulled 140,000 pounds up 10 and 12% hills here as well and in same gear as my old 2013 Detroit DD15 505/1650 did and in same gear. -
Still not great pics, but I will keep trying. I clicked phone for the closer pic but only got the trailers again. Interesting to note it still has spokes on the steers, but aluminum budds on the drives. I still can't tell what it had for an engine. It was putting out some coal like my E6 350 used to when he was pulling away from a stop and when he went by me at highway speed it was pretty quiet and din't sound like a V8. This setup would be legal for 140,000 pounds here. It's got a logger headache rack on, so it must pull log trailer too. I would take that over my new truck any day!

Yes Red Horse....wood chips, saw dust, hog fuel. I'm in a heavy forestry area. And yes, no dollie. Fifth wheel on lead. Door panels open up on rear of lead and front of pup and the load passes through on the tipper.
-
PS.......it did not sound like a V8.

Well for the second time this week I tried to get a pic of this awesome working Superliner and this all all I got both times......the trailers. And I even clicked my phone well before it got to me. I was so P'd off!!!! It's a sweet looking daycab. What's even stranger is I radio'd back to my buddy behind me and said get a pic of that Superliner and both times he said nothing passed him and we were on 2 lane highway with no side roads???? So either it vanished or I just see Superliner's in my head??? I vow I will get a pic for you guys at some point this summer!!!!!

That's what they have at their terminals here. There are "holes" in the front of the building at the dock doors, that the rear tandems and fifth wheel drive in under the dock. They still have many of the Argosy COE's still in service.

Damn good numbers for being smoke free!!! Best motors ever made.

Awesome pics as usual Tim. I can understand what that is like. I used to work in forestry and hauled for a company that had big Morbark and Beast wood grinders and I used to see the havock chunks of metal going through the grinders would cause. Even with chips and bark coming out of a sawmill, you would be surprised to see what you find in those piles, LOL

A long time Canada wide fleet, Manitoulin Transport. The first to have what they termed the "supertrucks" which were all Freightliner cabovers with drom boxes. Then when coe's and the Argosy went away they switched them to FL 114SD's. But today I saw brand new International HV's.

Here's what this morning looked like. And didn't see the Superliner again yet, but saw another Anthem pulling a possum belly.

Well worked out better than expected. I got a really nice kitchenette room in a town one hour away from the job. A very nice couple from Wisconsin bought a motel up here and totally renovated it, so it is all new. Very nice place and very nice people. The Outdoorsman in Wawa, Ontario. Still ice on the small lakes and it snowed today. Was nice the first part of the week though. Saw a Superliner still working, pulling a possum belly wood chip trailer. My mission is to get a pic. Also saw an IH 9670 cabover cattle hauler today too. More impressed with my little DD13 505/1850. It is getting stronger as it breaks in. Pulls like a champ and I am averaging 5.4 US MPG working all day in constant hills loaded both ways, and I get 6.4 on the hour run back to the nearest town. Not disappointed in going to a smaller motor. No regens so far. I'm the black 2020 in the middle.

22 metric Tonne Tim. Allowable is 36,000 KG and empty weight is 14,000. Yes, I have "essential" highway construction to do mrsmackpaul, LOL Not going to be fun. I'll be an hour away from anything and will be starting and ending work before I can get back to any town with anything open. Going to have a cab full of groceries and stuff. All the town up where I am going are all on reduced hours for any services.
-
My party is over too. Got the call, no more relaxing at home. Got my load of blasted rock on and ready to hit the highway for a big highway reconstruction job up north.
-
I like them all. I both drove and pulled for Trans Provincial and for another local company and ran R's identical to that one. With both spoke and budds on the steers and some with straight pipes between the cab and bunk and some with the stacks behind the bunk. Those R's all pulled heavy. Multi axle trailers pulling steel and dump trailers.
