  1. Haha ours does the same thing. I was just going to check the grounds.
  2. Yep my old 88 R Model (when stock) went up the 8% grades here at 140,000 pounds in the same gear as my new 505 DD15 Detroit, although at a bit lower road speed. I love the E-6.
  3. I've seen two split the crank and block in half with the power I mentioned. But they were company drivers. They will make that power....you just can't use it all, all the time. Don't need to go that extreme anyway. My old E-6 350 would do anything a STOCK 475 Cat/ 500 Detroit would do with just a good pump tune. But it was geared pretty low though too.
  4. 485, then they break in half if you are not paying attention pulling any kind of hill. At least that was my experience when I ran them. At that setting the engine and exhaust temps would skyrocket very quick if you got into a big hill pulling heavy and you'd have to back off it. That was on an 88 E-6 350 4 valve by the way.
  5. My Detroit has been bulletproof. But the truck did have a lot of little cosmetic build quality issues. Don't know if mine was built on a bad day, but never had flaws like that in the old ones. Nothing that affected it's performance....just annoyances for what it cost. Like grill bars that had no rivets, and lots of marks and scratches in the interior. Crappy, hard to service cab air filters, and it had the wrong engine fan and rad mounts installed. But the dealer and factory rep replaced those quick. But they weren't concerned about all the flaws in my interior. Maybe I'm too picky? Around here they are same price as a Mack.
  6. A lot of mine didn't have cab sheids either RFCDrum. I've only been on one job, (a big dig in the local steel mill) where they made us get out of the truck while loading if we didn't have one. I couldn't understand that either.......I would feel safer in the cab, than standing outside in a hardhat, lol. Thanks for the compliment.
  7. James.....the 4700 series will be built in N.C. All others will still be made in Portland Oregon. Here's my viper blue 2013 dump. DD15 powered, 18 speed, 20 and 46 axles, air ride and S.P.I.F. automatic self equalizing steering lift axle. Loaded interior, maple leaf red leather. The other two are at my dealer. The maroon one is for a log/chip hauler and is a glider they built. Brand new Cat in it.
  8. Still ashame to see the Big Mack Attack changed.....but at least it is still going in some form and not scrapped. Looks good and great to see one still working. I knew where the fuel pump went but wasn't sure about the rest of it. Thanks for the pics. Awesome.
  9. U.S. Senator Carl Levin claims caterpillar has avoided paying 2.4 billion in taxes since 2000 by shifting profits to a wholly-controlled affiliate in Switzerland. Caterpillar denies any wrong doing.
  10. You can always build a B model with an E-9 in it! That would make a nice "sleeper"
  11. Please keep us updated with pics. Those trucks are awesome. The beast don't even sound like a diesel....it's almost like a stock car, lol. You must be turning some rpm eh? It's too bad the big Mack Attack got dismantled. But at least we still got you guys and Tyson waving the Mack flag!
  12. Philgaudet thanks for the pics. Tyson was telling me about it last winter. Is that another race truck or will you work that one?
  13. About time one of our Rodeo guys chimed in. Number of the beast!!!!!! Is it true philgaudet...that you guys are building a Superliner also?
  14. So Renault owned them but it was a MACK design. Now Volvo owns them, Mack made their own changes to the Volvo engine, but it is Volvo (which is bad.) LOL, I'm confused. Wow, lots of info in this thread. Amazing what you can search up on Wikipedia, lol.
  15. Ya, that's why I was wondering. All the new Mack dumps I see with Allison's are 445's. But they are in southern Ontario, no big hills like up here. There's guys running 560 Detroit's with Allison's up here. But sounds like the 445 would do the job.
  16. I had traction control on my CH that was pulling wood chip trailers. I had to load in places with axle deep mud. It made the truck useless. It wouldn't go anywhere. Got it turned off and I could get in and out no problem. Does exactly like bbigrig says.....you try and get through a bad spot and it derates the engine, applies brakes, you lose momentum, and there you sit.....stuck.
  17. Depends on how much weight you are hauling and the grades you are running Bullhusk. Another company in my town is pulling dump ponies at 140,000 with the 450 DD13 and corner to corner it will run with a 460 E-7. But as the grade gets bigger the 460 will pull away. They are phenomenal on fuel which is very important now a days. Like I said, I find them almost equal to the DD15 up to about 1400 rpm, then it's game over. But if you are a power nut like you say, I guess I'd go with the DD15 or 16. Still better on fuel than our ISX. You'll be happy with the Coronado. I don't find the headlights very good though compared to other trucks.
  18. bbigrig, thanks for your opinion on the MP-8 445. I was surprised to hear you say that about Allison's though. Quite a few around here in dump and plow applications with high miles that are still going. I also had a similar experience to what you mentioned in one of the threads regarding the old E-7's. Ran a CL with a 454 (dump/pony, 140,000 gross) and it wouldn't pull. Derated it to a 427 and it pulled stronger and better on fuel.
  19. We run both Bullhusk......2012 Coronado SD with 600 Cummins and 2013 Star 4900. The Mexican built Coronado probably has a bit better build quality than the Star. Lots of flaws in the Star. (maybe built on a bad day?) The FL is lighter as you say, but you can tell. Stuff such as the doors, etc all are less rigid feeling. It's been holding up well on/off road though. Keep the hydraulic cylinders for the hood lubed good.....they are the only reoccurring problem we have with them. They bind and snap off. I love the new Detroit's. Running both DD13 and DD15's. The 13 is awesome on fuel and strong up to about 1400 RPM, then it goes flat. The 15 is also very good on fuel and pulls very nice. No issues at all, except the rear mounted air compressor will make you hate life when your air freezes up in the winter. I hated the ISX600. Didn't like the feel at all and thought it was the nature of the beast. But we recently got some updates done and now it runs just like a Cat. (same type of throttle response, not super touchy anymore and pulls stronger) Uses less DEF fluid than the Detroit, but regens more.
  20. I've ran the first of the 400 h.p. electronic E-7's and they were a damn good reliable motor. But then I got a brand new 2000 CH, 460 E-7 70" midrise. Pulled walking floor chip trailers grossing over 140,000 pounds. It came home on a tow truck usually twice a week. Cooked 2 air compressors right off the bat because of the casting sand problem plugging that little cooling line for the compressor. Then it had electronic faults constantly that they never ever could fix. It would have no power, then the next hill it would pull like a train, then go dead again, etc. Then it would shutoff and restart going down the highway. Then it dropped a valve. Then the cam, then injectors, etc. The truck itself was very good though, but it was the reason I switched brands in 2005. I was afraid of E-7 Assets. But I guess I know why now, now that you-know-who explained Volvo was at fault back then too.
  21. And the RD800
  22. I need one of those little smiley's that is eating popcorn. this is better than tv.
  23. Logtruckman........on behalf of Volvo I would like to thank you and your brother for "lowering" yourselves enough to drive such beasts Hahahahaha. It must really suck to have all that power and wonderful ride quality. LOL.
  24. #1 Titan IS available with a sleeper in North America, albeit a 36"flat top. If you want bigger you order it from your dealer and they have Mik-Mak in Canada build a very nice one for no more than factory sleeper prices. #2 You really think Volvo cares if a Mack outsells their own truck?? It's all profit in their bank. I'm sure they're quite happy with sales no matter what name is on the grill. #3 CL wasn't popular?? Hahaha. Come to Canada. They ruled logging in Ontario and Quebec. There are many hauling freight with 70" mid rise bunks and E9 V8's. I see all kinds every day. E-9, E-7 and Cummins powered. Loggers, dump trucks, highway tractors, tankers, etc. OK....now your turn to reply with more Volvo/Mack hate LOL.
