Thanks for the info. I'd like to see their other stuff because that Superliner is a beauty!

You are part correct. The Maxx 13 is a MAN engine and the Maxx 15 is the C15 Cat block. Both failed miserably because of the mass egr. Latest rumour is Cat is once again working on their own engine. I can't see it though....the new ctl loaders have Kubota motors in them and the new dpf equipped excavators have identical interiors, manufacturer decals and hydraulic shudder as the new Komatsu's. What is happening to Cat? Sad.

I don't have an MP10 to compare, but the 600 Cummins in our 2012 Coronado SD is gutless. My 550 Cat with identical gearing and tire size will pull hills 15 to 20 mph faster. Got two friends with MP10 605's and they love them. One got out of an E9 and said his new one pulls the hills in the same gear.

Comparison-Mack-F'Liner-Navistar
Bullheaded replied to Red Horse's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Funny you say that, I had Freightliner catch fire over the weekend because of that. Only thing that saved it was I had the dump box up to the first stage and when it burnt through the hydraulic line, the box came down and the forcing oil flow extinguished the fire. -
Myths and facts explained? -Air Ride vs Spring Suspension
Bullheaded replied to dds92780's topic in Driveline and Suspension
First off let me say I love Camelback. But my current dump truck is air ride, and I would never buy anything but again. The ride quality is unbeatable. As far as traction, you need to learn few things first. If you've been moving and bouncing, sometimes you need to hit the susp. dump valve for a couple seconds, because if the bags are pressured right up and topped out, you will spin out. For the most part in sand, I can go where rubber block and spring trucks won't move. But you have to get used to playing with that dump valve. Also you want to dump the air when dumping your load, to avoid the bags topping out. It is hard on them. Only time I don't dump the air is if I'm dumping into a spreader, as the load comes out slow enough it has time to adjust. Stability....doesn't bother me. I have spread with air in the bags. Truck is still upright. Very low maintenance. I've rarely ever replaced an air bag, and nothing to grease. They are just so much easier on the truck and the driver. So your oppinions may vary....but it is air for this guy. -
Sweet!! That brings back memories! Nice truck.

the titan is up and running all rigged up
Bullheaded replied to 41180's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
What is in the square box under the drivers door, besides the urea tank? Are the batteries in there also? Nice truck. Have a friend where I live that has a new Titan self loader log truck with the 605 and he loves it. Told me it pulls the hills in the same gears as his old E-9 powered CL. -
Just wondering....when is Mack's "Allison Exclusive" deal for auto's in the vocational models done? I thought it was this year or next? Just wondering when we will be able to get the M-Drive in the Granite and Titan?
-
Ya, I don't understand why you can't order this and have the Mod Centre build it. This and the one that Mik Mak did look more integrated than the one Mack did with the little hos sleeper.
-
Here you go Bad Dog. Here is a pic of one of your Mercury Superliners we were talking about. I scanned it out of the first issue of 1982 Canadian Bulldog Magazine. I sure miss those Canadian issues.....it was nice to see all the new Macks sold around our own area. You think this may be that one Detroit powered unit? Sure is nice looking anyway. Hopefully you can give us all the background on this unit. Wish I had a pic of one of the V8 F797ST models. They would look sharp in that colour scheme.
-
Ha ha, kinda figured you guys would have at least seen that truck. I took those pics (unfortunately had to take through the fence)when i was at the last Ritchie Brothers auction by Bolton a couple weeks ago. It was parked in that area. One hell of a truck. Looks well taken care of. Possible I've seen you bobo. Spent my share of time in the plant and hauling up to Hearst and Kap. You work the Superliner? Ya, I like the north. I hate going to southern Ontario (no offense to anyone, just too hectic and busy for my liking.) I find the moose are much safer drivers than most 4 wheelers in Toronto and Montreal.

New Mack Model Coming Soon.
Bullheaded replied to Mackpro's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Thanks for the pics Mack 3P. I can't wait to see more of the Granite sleeper and the Titan when it gets it. Those small bunks come in handy now on dump trucks to get by the HOS. -
I'm just north of Sault Ste. Marie. You know anything about this Superliner bobo? I see it down south all the time. That is one sweet float.
-
Ya, it's too bad Mack has that agreement with Allison for the vocational trucks, be nice to have that M Drive in a Granite.

Titan Bumpers? Any Aftermarket ?
Bullheaded replied to MrDave's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
I'll have to get a pic of my friends Titan log truck. He has a Mik Mak moose bumper on it with a tow pin and it looks good. -
I'll be damned Bobo.....I just looked at the pic after you said that and it is a Star. I must have been sleeping last night, lol. So now the rumour and mystery continues...... I do agree with sponsorship dollars though. Remember the first season of Ice Road Seatcovers when they went to Alaska...every time they went in Carlisles shop they would zoom in on all the Craftsman banners on the walls, the Craftsman toolboxes, then they made a point of explaining the installation of Diehard batteries in all the trucks. Then next season all the banners and tools were a different brand. Ya I bet they just replace all their tools every year for $hits and giggles.
-
I was just going to ask about that Titan.....I heard a rumour.....that pic confirms it. Bummer. Also wondering.....on the golden road they haul into Canada. Is there some kind of border guard or customs point they cross on the bushroad? I can't see them crossing on a public road with two trailers wooded up to 175 tons. I've been to many parts of Quebec but never around there. I have a friend that has a Titan self loader log truck with pup, 605 MP10. Last time i talked to him he said it is working great. Also have heard very good things about the MP10 from my mechanic that works at a Mack/Volvo dealer in southern Ontario. He said they have had less issues with the MP10 than the MP8.

Quote: "they would still be building engines, trans.etc of their own design. Without assistance from a foreign country,as they have for 111 years" When did Renault become American? Sounds foreign to me. I think Volvo will do good for Mack. I mean in todays climate. We have to remember, there will never be anything like the old Macks. Not in trucks, cars appliances, etc. Todays norm is throw away junk. That's just how it is. So while they may not measure up to the old stuff, you have to compare Volvo/Mack to the other stuff that is here today. We should praise Volvo for not going to Mexico like EVERYONE else. I've owned International and they closed the Chatham Ontario plant and moved to Mexico. I wouldn't buy another. Look what Freightliner did to Western Star. I think when you combine the technology that Mack has brought to market, with Volvos european technology, they will once again rise to the top. Everyone else was sharing their oppinions, so that is mine.

Look What Pulled Into Our Shop
Bullheaded replied to rw613's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Oh Lord, please let me win the lotto so I can buy that poor Transtar, yank that ugly a$$ bumper and visor off, strip the paint and give that poor old classic it's dignity back. What are some people thinking?? Seems to be these show truck builders are just in a competition to see who could build the ugliest, most useless pile around. I need one of them trainsets in by bunk too, so it can circle me all night while I sleep, LOL. To each his own I guess. -

Canadian Hood Scoop? Part #
Bullheaded replied to mackcl96's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Sorry about the way I typed that. My CH had an E7- 460 and the Cl's had 454, 460 and E9-500's. Just included the Ch because the hood scoop intake helped smooth out the big E7's also. Looks like you got your info mackcl96 but if it don't work out let me know. I can get ahold of dealer during the week. -
Canadian Hood Scoop? Part #
Bullheaded replied to mackcl96's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Here's a pic. Hope Mr. Brandt don't mind me posting. This truck and his Superliner race up the hill at Rodeo Du Camion every year. He's got videos of Superdog on you tube. They have a pretty nice collection of working E-9 Macks. -
Canadian Hood Scoop? Part #
Bullheaded replied to mackcl96's topic in Modern Mack Truck General Discussion
Our dealer here started using them on the pre-ASSET trucks. We're always grossing over 140,000 pounds on 10 to 12% grades and with the E-7 454/460 and E9's in the CH and CL's. They had a slight shake when pulling hard and they determined it to be caused by a lack of intake air. They did seem to help. I know they were Mack parts and we had a local body shop cut the hood and install. I'll see if I can get a # during the week.
