  1. Maybe not an apples to apples comparison, but the mine I work at tried some electric trucks to replace some of the Toyota's for underground. At first they got rave reviews. After the first winter I noticed they were gone and they went back to diesel Toyota's and some other specialty brand. I asked about them. They said they were great underground, but as soon as they came to surface in winter they weren't worth a crap. (they were kept in an unheated garage plugged in, but the cold still killed the batteries.) And then they said even underground, after a few months of driving through water all the electrical issues started. So be interesting to see how all these new electric vehicles do up here in minus 40 and winters that last 6 months and towns that are minimum 200 KM apart and no chargers in most of them.
  2. I'm with you.....other than the Cummins. But I guess some people like them and we really don't have any choice nowadays. I would have liked to see the CH axle forward before this latest styling change, with the old Rawhide interior and the hood lengthened just enough for a 15 or 16 litre engine and the cooling package required for it.
  3. Wasn't it called the VT880 or something like that? What Volvo doesn't know is putting a longer hood and big engine on a very very ugly truck doesn't win over owner operators, LOL
  4. The CT13 was a Navistar Maxxforce painted yellow. The CT15 was a Cat C15 block with Navistar/MAN top end, injection and emissions. I had high hopes but they were plagued with issues. The Cat truck here in North America was an International Paystar with a Cat designed interior and hood. In the end as Cat announced discontinuation of the Cat truck in North America they finally offered them as a glider kit that could be set up for C12, C13, 3406E and C15. I priced one out and almost bought one. But the glider was as much as a complete running new truck and I couldn't get by that cyclops dash with the single tach/speedo. The interior in my Paystar 5600i was far superior to me. I loved my Cat powered Paystar Eagle.
  5. You mean they can make something even uglier than the Anthem!
  6. I prefer the old days though when the E9 dominated. All it took was some wrenches and screw driver. Now it's all about who is the biggest computer wizard with the programming.
  7. I know a bunch of these guys. Those trucks all go back to work Monday morning. And they all pull trains of lumber and or logs/chips at 140,000 pounds. Ya, sometimes something breaks down the road, but usually not. They tell me the clutch takes the most abuse.
  8. Oh ya? I'd like to see more of that. Wonder where he's from? Too bad Mack didn't do anything that smart.
  9. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKOEf5mz1OM So what blows my mind is at 32:47 there is a new Mack CH that is smoking the drive tires???? LOL I'd sure like to know what was done to that.
  10. Just ONE of the many reasons I'm not trucking any more.......we are all test pilots at OUR expense with all this new JUNK.
  11. Oh no! Not the holier than though Volvo! LOL https://www.trucknews.com/health-safety/nhtsa-issues-consent-order-against-volvo-group/1003172234/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=newcom&utm_campaign=TruckNewsDaily&utm_content=2023013170747&hash=f1576ceb10f1d6560c2b88c4de3ca180
  12. Well now I need one of those to repower one of the two 1971 Massey Ferguson 7 lawn tractors I have!!
  13. The thing with me is I have a friend that is a 2 stroke Detroit expert, so if I get one of those Massey's he can make her run strong. Would be a cool tractor to take to the local fairs and antique pulls. In this area where I grew up, 2 stroke Detroits were by far the most popular engine by far back in the day. When I was young almost every truck around here had a Detroit and many of the loaders and dozers were Terex with Detroits and Champion motor graders with Detroits.
  14. Almost makes me want to live in the city and put my snowblower on the back of one so I can have it running full PTO RPM annoying everyone with that screaming Detroit. LOL
  15. Cockshutt also used the Detroit Diesel in one of their models.
  16. That is on my list for my next tractor. Been watching the auctions for a Massey 98 with the Detroit. I've always loved Massey Ferguson's. I have two 1971 Massey's along with my 55 Allis Chalmers CA.
  17. I always liked that era of Star and the Heritage cab with that sleeper. Nice truck you got there. Bonus points for Cat power! Like the Aussie style snorkels. My friend did that to his Titan when the factory breathers rotted off from the road salt.
  18. Aside from all the driver abuse, they are going. They are gutless on our hills with that weight, they drop down to first gear every hill (X15 525/1850 Cummins Allison auto's) and the transmission warning lights come on every hill, except for the one good driver. He has yet to see a light come on. But we all know how that works with slip seating and shift work.....one good driver that takes care of his unit gets to watch it get destroyed by the other seat covers.
  19. Very nice. The last good Mack model. I very much enjoyed driving the CL's.
  20. I didn't really find them loud, but then again I was young. But they were pretty luxurious with the Custom Cab trim. I ran them with 6V53, 8V53, 8V71, and 3406B power.
  21. Cool picture. At first I thought Wilson's who hauled groceries here in Ontario, but then I saw Westcan on the doors of some of them. They are a big tanker outfit from Alberta and they (through their RTL Construction division) are the ones that build the ice roads around the Yukon. They are under new ownership now, called KAG Canada and they run mostly Mack. If I could buy one of those new now I might still be interested in trucking. But I'm not.
  22. I only had the R700 brochure from 1978 so at least that year had no Mack engine listed. But yes I have seen them with V8 Mack engines.
  23. Interestingly in 1978 it doesn't show ANY Mack engines in the R700.
