  1. The casting # of the hub with the three cracks that I welded is 8QJ8131P1. It's a poor casting - a lot of scabbing on the inside of the spokes. It also has a much bigger outer bearing (the inner is the same size as the other hub #8QJ414).

I thought this was the only crack. The other two were not so obvious.
  3. From the album: Electric Conversion

After fully cleaning the hub I found a pair of cracks around a second bolt hole. I was concerned about welding the casting, but it appears the material is cast steel, not cast iron. This hub was poorly cast - a lot of scabs and scars.

Originally I thought this was the only crack.

Still need spring pins and too finish painting other springs. It took a few attempts to get the spring into position without scratching the hell out of everything.

    Original Crossmember with electric motor.

Yup, those are Mack body-bound bolts. They were supposed to be $3.50 ea. Still waiting to find out why they were $7.50 ea. Nuts and washers were "reasonably" priced.

Eastwood paint on the springs. Paint is good for brackets and show, but probably not durable enough for the springs.

Step one - remove only what's needed.
  10. From the album: Electric Conversion

Since I'm using the original bellhousing, flywheel, clutch, and transmission for the conversion to electric I decided to use the crankshaft flange.
  11. Hit the jackpot on Mack Body Bound bolt part numbers & dimensions. Either: Visit: http://www.nextrancorp.com/nbindex.htm Or: See attached pdf files. Generally, prices are reasonable for bolts (except for that $7.00), nuts, washers Body Bound Bolts.pdf Bolts Cotter pin.pdf Nuts.pdf Washers.pdf
  12. Anyone know part numbers for Mack's 5/8"-18 shouldered frame & crossmember bolts? I stumbled across a 3AX1644 at https://aerobasegroup.com/part-number/3AX1644_01-554-9490. $7.00 each! Any ideas?
  13. From the album: Electric Conversion

Crossmember removed and big chunks of rust. It cleaned up nicely.
