  1. I want add a passenger-side cab vent. Has anyone tried these Dorman cab door vent assemblies for size? There are dimensions, but not for the just the door. At $65+ they are not cheap, but easier than making one. Or, does anyone have a cab vent door to sell?
  2. Finally got around to setting preload on the rear bearings. From the Mack Brakes manual: While turning drum/wheel preload adjusting nut to 200 lb-ft. - yes, 200 lb-ft! Back off nut one full-turn While turning drum/wheel tighten adjusting nut to 50 lb-ft. If you can, check for at least 0.001 in/out movement of drum/wheel If the pin on the nut does not align with a hole in the anti-rotate-washer thing, loosen the nut until it aligns Tighten the lock-nut to 300-400 lb-ft.
  3. It's a cross-reference pdf file http://www.stemco.com/qbin/335.pdf Not the easiest system to use and search. I replaced the wheel bearings and was able to use those numbers to double check the part dimensions and find the spacer and seal. You might lucky and find something referencing the FA511. I spend a lot of time looking for parts. I probably stumbled across something that referenced something that led to something else...
  4. I bought the seal and bearing hub as a set - I bought 2 sets as both sides were worn. I got them from ebay ($. One big trick was finding what this thing is called! I finally found a Stemco catalog and part number. These are Stemco Grit Guard, 382-8010 - $20.00 each

I had considered not checking the front wheel bearings! Glad I did.
  6. I've been finding a lot of fine-thread nuts, bolts, screws... at AMK Products https://www.amkproducts.com Once you figure out their catalog system(s), they are great - start looking in BULK. Good prices too. Door Jamb Bolts.pdf
  7. So much old grease, grime, acorns, fluff, and crud! Just when I think I'm done I find another pocket somewhere in the bowels. Now however, I think it's clean!

I finally got around to painting the rest of the frame.

One original and two new crossmembers.

Not sure about the yellow brake drums.
  11. The pre-load is surprisingly high, 100+ ft-lb. I'll be doing mine in a few weeks so I can update this post. Don't forget to check the axle tube wear surface. https://www.flickr.com/photos/emack/albums/72157685006281336
  12. I won't be using my glove box hinges - they're bent to hell, but workable. I'm replacing the glove box door, hinges, and "glove box". I haven't cut them out yet: probably in January. Are you still interested, and what parts do you need?
  13. Umm, this is what I read. Not sure what you're referring to?
  14. If you'd listen and watch something besides Faux News and Sean Hannity you'll be surprised at what you can learn. But hang on tight because it will rock you boat.
  15. I said it before and I'll say it again: What a bunch of cry babies.
