  1. Ever see the Rodney Dangerfield film " Back to school" where the officious math professor is telling the students how figure the costs on a construction job, and Dangerfield, a wealthy contractor, says " you forgot something" "really" says the professor? "Yeah, you forgot to pay off the building inspector!"😁
  2. As usual, you all have good points! David I don't think you can teach Isis a lesson, they welcome death! Maybe we need to give it to them, but too bad about the non combatants but how many of our non combatants have they killed(9 11) ,missionaries, overseas workers, etc! KSB, who knows who Paddock was! One thing for sure, it's too damn easy for these nutcases to get weapons! Mack Tech you're right! Until the last 10 or so years they just killed themselves! Now they want attention,so they go to a public venue and kill dozens! The ones who live need quick prosecution and quick execution! No 20 years of appeals like here in Florida!
  3. OD, that truck stop in Jackson Oh has the best fried chicken I've ever eaten, ever try it? Twenty minute wait, because they make it from scratch!
  4. You've nailed it again OD!😁
  5. Freightrain,Rowdy, and Fxfymn, your thoughts once again parallel mine😁 Rather than learning to back up and teaching his son, the stroke teaches the kid to rely on electronic devices and they're both thrilled! Typical! When I was in the towing business, a local teenager used to ride with me just for fun, learned to to back a car up in 1 try, two years later was driving team with Coastal Tank Lines!,ended up driving a city bus!
  6. KSB, when will it ever end!? Heard this morning on public radio that NRA stock is up 4 percent! I believe in the right to keep and bear, but probably wouldn't have helped in this instance! Happened too late for the local papers, but tomorrow will dominate the news!
  7. Schneiders Dairy, Near Whitehall pa served the whole south hills of Pittsburgh Pa! Delivered all the dairy products plus bread, orange juice, and the maple rolls! We had one of those galvanized boxes, had about a half inch of insulation inside. My buddy's dad next door drove about a 15 ft reefer old cornbinder, brought it home every night, did his deliveries in the am.Meadow Gold Dairy. There was a big Isalys dairy plant on the north side of Pittsburgh,Where the Klondike bar originated! The milkman wore a white uniform with a billed cap and a little bow tie! Like the old Texaco gas station guys wore!.who would have.ever thought they would be building street rods out of the old utilitarian Divco trucks?! When I owned a hotshot rig we used to haul the little "mail jeeps" by Grumman Industries in Marcy PA. Weren't really jeeps but we're referred to as such! The Divco subject got me thinking about the many "purpose built" light and medium vehicles of the past like the "metro" vans and the old "checker" cabs which used a GM chassis and running gear. I believe private individuals could buy the Checker marathon which was the "civilian" version of the taxicab!
  8. Keg I, Team is the outfit I was thinking of! My co driver drove for them! I used to haul US Mail out of the bulk mail center at exit 3, Do you remember Waite Inc or Joy Don Transport?
  9. Jeff M I used to do ornamental iron railings by hand, and can attest to how much work went into that grille guard! It is a work of art! Ever see the factory grille guard on a 40s Brockway? Must add 150 lbs to the truck!
  10. Was dumping a little 6 yard Ford on the job site in Margate Florida, and some guy came up and asked directions, had a manual tailgate and you grabbed the handle as the body went up,I forgot!😁 stood straight up on the tailgate! I got out and released the handle, got back in and put it in first let out the clutch three times and it was level again! No damage it being so short! But the supervisor was driving by just as it went up he looked like he saw a ghost, sat there a minute and drove away shaking his head lol
  11. That red LM has some nice fabrication on the fenders and grille guard!
  12. There was a steel hauler running around Pittsburgh in 74, had a B model with a 8v71, green in color! Must have been a tight fit!
  13. Lake George is a beautiful area, maybe the town fathers didn't want the tourists to see ugly trucks!
  14. The plastic wheel covers are probably carcinogenic in California, everything else is!😁
  15. The Ford Cabover has a nice clean look! First one I've ever seen chopped! Also like the tiny cab markers ! Understatement usually works !
  16. Nice.looking.old truck!,I like the original style mirrors!
  17. On the subject of desecration of our flag, back in the 60s when "hippies" we're burning our flag, country singer Jimmy Dean was a guest on Dick Cavets talk show and Cavet asked him what he thought about Abbie Hoffman urinating on and burning our flag. Dean, a navy vet, replied "I think that ol' boy needs a good west Texas butt kickin'!" I agree! That's as political as I'll get!
  18. Willie D,great job!
  19. Fxfymn,I drove many car carriers, and owned a 7000 gmc ,, hotshot, the car carriers didn't go through tires any worse than the other 18 wheelers I drove! The hotshot trailer came from the factory with 16" 12 ply michelins and they lasted a long time! When they wore out I replaced them with 8 ply tires. I didn't normally load more than 8000 lb of insulation or maybe 3 conversion vans at about 15000lb! I went thru a lot of tires but they were cheap!
  20. Sharp outfits, Are those road lights in the uppercab corners?
  21. Heavy Gunner, you took the thoughts right out of my head! None of the drivers I have run with in my decades of driving would be seen in an automatic truck! Every competent driver I met would be embarrassed if he "missed" a gear! Every experienced driver I know knows all of the tricks many big carriers use to exploit their drivers the " double dispatch" to make sure at least one of their increasingly incompetent drivers picks up an important account on time! Loading by wage rate so the lowest paid drivers are locked into the longest load!= reverse seniority! Statistically only about 3 percent of new drivers can drive a stick shift,so these are the target audience for hiring by many large carriers. Most of these potential drivers haven't a clue how a roadranger tranny works so it is difficult to train them in its operation, most couldn't tell you the difference between a diesel and a gas engine! This lack of general knowledge is a plus that makes them "ripe" for exploitation! Another factor is that a "semi competent" driver is going to be hard on drivelines and engines with his rough shifts and overheating engines due to lugging! With an automatic much of this abuse is eliminated! Most of the refuse industry has gone to automatics for legitimate reasons, continuous stop and go routing, which destroys drivelines and driver retention. Most of these drivers are competent! You wouldn't last long with a high heavy load in a long straight job if you weren't!
  22. Smallest sleeper I've ever seen! Ironic that it's on the back of an R model similar to the one I used to put a soda case between the seats and sleep in! I would have appreciated that narrow bunk! At 6'2" 165 # I would have fit...barely😁
  23. Saw a 63 gmc 6500 on Craigslist someone swapped a Maxidyne with a 10 speed rr and a 3spd brownie into! Had a utility body with a man lift on it. Must have had some heavy tools and equipment!
