Thanks for the sentiments guys! Our power went back on Thursday evening! We are back in the house,and can eat some cooked food! Got tired of Burger King and Micky Ds! That thing about the little kid dying is almost too awful to contemplate! Maybe the people who sell generators should give the buyers a verbal warning about not running them in a closed space and force them to sign a document to this effect,perhaps with pictures of funerals of those who died from carbon monoxide poisoning! with a fine for running generators in a closed space,like a code violation!

Mackey, I vaguely remember "Steel Haulers" but that's not the outfit I'm referring to! Ranchopper, you have said a mouthful! As I understand it the immigrants you are referring to are given five years tax free to "start" a business because they " create employment" the employment they "create" is often to their relatives who they "sponsor" for a fast track to citizenship! The most common examples of this concept are convenience stores,fuel stops and motels! I've often wondered if they could be "tax free" for five years, then go back to their country of origin, wait awhile then come back and do it again! Or maybe the relative they " sponsored" could get the five years tax free at a different location! Anyone remember the "Liberty" chain of fuel stops on I80 in eastern Pa? Good example! But you did get a "free" beverage if you fueled! What a great country!😁 To be clear... we are all immigrants even those who arrived on the Mayflower! However most of our ancestors who came here from the seventeenth to middle twentieth century either worked or starved! No lifetime of social programs because we were a certain ethnicity, or none if we weren't! OK that's my political statement! Back to trucks and trucking! Ranchopper, speaking of the joys and benefits of the owner operator lifestyle, Are you old enough to remember Midwestern Distribution out of Ft Scott Ks? Or North American New Products Div.? Mackey,I also remember Artim from 1974, when I was hauling steel for JV McNicholas, my buddy was talking about going to work for Artim said they gave the drivers a handful of credit cards to buy fuel,we could only buy fuel at certain stops, very inconvenient, you had to watch your mileage to avoid running out! Was trying for months to remember their name! Anybody remember the steel hauler from western PA that ran the black and white 4200 Internationals,with box sleepers? My buddy drove for them.The drivers used to call them "skunks" on the radio!😁

I'm on 87 S. in upstate New York a dry van passes me in the left lane about 65mph he is running with 4 aluminum budds on the trailer tandem ...not a tire in sight!! Loaded of course!😁 u

There is no end to the innovation of farmers and truckers! When my dad owned the salvage yard a nearby farmer hired him to convert an ancient crank start tractor to electric start! He drilled out an old car flywheel to mount on the front pulley and built a bracket to hold the starter! I was a little kid but when I became a teenager and learned to work on cars I wondered if that flywheel unbalanced the crankshaft! I'm sure he never had the thing balanced! I guess the thing ran such low rpm it didn't matter!😁

66, My cousin had an Astro that looked similar to that, was a73 model 350 Detroit with a 13 speed,that's a pretty tractor you've got!

Freightrain, Bob called me over the wknd.said he talked to you! Glad you two drag racing fools got to meet! His buddies friends daughter won "Jr dragster,"can't remember if it was at Thompson or Quaker city! We had no damage from Irma, but our powers been off since Tuesday! We're in a motel waiting for the power to go back on! Glad Hat City "dodged the bullet" He was lucky to have a generator! There wasn't one to be found in Hernando County! This is the first time in 25 yrs we've had an extended power outage! Tragically a lady down here bought a generator, somewhere in Pasco county, and ran it all night while her and her 7yr.old daughter were sleeping, had it in the house!! Her daughter is dead and she is in the hospital, from carbon monoxide poisoning! Every news report warns to not run one in the house!,and the warnings are printed all over the generator!, She'll live with that the rest of her life!

He's happy he's done tarping! I refuse to own a smartphone! They are amazing, but they symbolize everything that is wrong with the world to me! I have to have my 10 year old granddaughter help me with the two remotes to work the tv!😁 Since I last posted hurricane Irma went thru as a tropical storm,50mph winds no damage here!,but we've had no power since Tuesday! We are in a motel in Homasassa Springs Florida, hopefully we will have power by the end of the week!

66, I agree on not over chroming vintage trucks! Mirrors,stacks and baby moons (or caps with truck specific script) on daytons! I haven't followed the build,awesome! I like the wheels, and the semi gloss paint ! What chassis is it on?

Mower man I had a pair of Red wing Wellington steel toes I bought in 83 lasted about 7 years, one resole 100.00 checked recently, similar boot about 150.00.not steel toe was hauling batteries for AC Delco in 83 steel toe required! They used to only be sold by shoemakers, who would make sure they fit properly! I checked in Rural King, every single pair of boots was made in China!

Rowdy, I had one of them years ago! Unlike a channelock the jaws stay square as they adjust to different size bolts and nuts! I forgot all about the darned thing!

OD, did you ever cross the "old" iron bridge on 22 into Weirton, they replaced it at some point, but was real narrow! When I hauled steel for JV Mcnicholas they had a terminal in Weirton, so I'm heading there and was "playing chicken" with another Mack coming out ! He won! Left a mirror head on the shoulder! The mechanic at Tom's Express, our sister company smiled"We keep a lot of mirror heads for you rookies on the bridge!" Embarrassing!😁 Is that the new bridge? I remember the old one was rusty looking!

OD, they let you slide your axles on 81? You got lucky I think! For years Va scales would give you 3 tries to get legal before they would "write you" Then in the late 2000s I heard you had to be legal when you pulled in! I was always legal so I never had a chance to test the so called "new rule" In the 70s I pulled a single axle car hauler that would haul 2 big cab and chassis on top, up to F700 and a car on the headramp and a car or light truck in the belly. This truck was always " heavy" on the last axle in Virginia! The company just paid the ticket! The load usually went to Magic City Motors in Roanoke Va, so there was no good way around the scale! I agree Va is anal about weight! 120 lbs is a small person! I've found that each state has a certain violation they concentrate on! Georgia is big on length, their kingpin length is 41ft I used to pull a spread axle drop deck, similar to ODs the last axle was 41'6" and the axles were fixed in place! The DOT man at the Hahira scale told me "you know I could make you move that axle! Or have your trailer hauled away (decked) out of the state! He decided to fine my boss 110.00 instead!😁

Rowdy,I agree! a 7/11 store in Miami was charging 20.00 for a case of water! Hope they closed that S.O.B! We have 5 cases of water and have been filling our milk and oj jugs as they empty! Have been filling plastic Ziploc bags with ice as the fridge makes it, when the rain or wind starts we will fill our bathtubs with water for bathing an flushing the toilets! Anyone who has been in the military knows you can take a bath in a " steel pot" full.of water! That's a bit anal, but a gallon will do! Thanks for your concern Rowdy!
