  1. The dry/slippery switch cuts the air in half on the steering axle! Some three axle tractors I drove in the 70s had no brakes at all on the steering, presumably to avoid a steering tire or tires locking up on slippery roads and causing you to lose steering control! At some point this "feature" was no longer offered thank goodness!
  2. It was listed in the latest Hemmings @30000.
  3. Fxfymn, the truck chassis itself (minus the fire equipment )would make a great hobby truck! ,Think an LJ roadster p.u! But what a shame to destroy such a piece of history! Great unit for a parade! Compare the price for almost any 60s or 70s junk car to one of these finely crafted pieces of equipment!
  4. Cool! Saw somewhere that you need a#12 lens to be safe with a welding hood mine are all #10 so I made a cardboard box viewer, it actually works, but the eclipse is about 1/2" in diameter! My grandkids were given a legal day off school for the eclipse! Of course they milked the snot out of that! We only got a couple minutes to see it then it was covered by clouds!
  5. Anyone ever see a set of tandems sitting along the highway?! Saw a set on I 85 near Atlanta, with a hundred ft of tire tracks!
  6. I do look in the mirrors occasionally lol
  7. Saw a dump body upside down and and facing backwards on the parkway going through Pittsburgh, hit an overpass, tore it completely off! I used to drive an early 60s F950 Ford tandem dump when we were building Margate Florida, a worn out strictly job site truck. We were all going back to our "staging area" and the guy behind me was honking the horn and flashing his lights! My dump body had started to go up!๐Ÿ˜ the pto and dump levers were so worn they were flopping around! Obviously I hadn't disengaged the pto! Glad I was empty! Every day you had to put a gallon of hydraulic fluid in the hoist! Was a 5 &3, the auxiliary box would lock up if you tried to split the gears! You had to pry it out of gear with a bar! The rear axles would move left to right 3"! The only good part of the truck was the 534 engine! Didn't really need the auxiliary! Every day you got a different truck! The B model and the two new little Ford 6yard dumps were the only street legal trucks in the fleet!
  8. The state police clocked a Hayabusa motorcycle on hwy 19 in Citrus county Florida at 200mph! The little mini would probably only do 190, due to wind resistance!๐Ÿ˜
  9. OD, we used to have to run sections of rte 60 before I64 was finished in 74! Was running a gas job car hauler, had to pull in little gas stations with the trailer out on the shoulder while fueling! How things have changed! Compare that fuel stop in mt Nebo to Iowa 80! Today's truckers don't know how good they have it! Is that an Oskosh cab and chassis, make a great hobby truck!
  10. There was a big raccoon sniffing around our bird feeder the day before the eclipse in the morning! I heard that animals get confused before an eclipse, them being mostly nocturnal, it may be true!
  11. OD I seem to recall the " colorful pig" from years ago! Amazing how many early R models are still working! Pretty little k model " binder" too! Did you ever load out of Greenbriar in Chesapeake Va with the dry van? I found a flashlight that was imported from there and remembered how many times I loaded there!
  12. Remember the Diamond reo "Raider" they pushed the heck out of that truck, ostensibly for owner operators they had them at all the big 76 ts in 1974! Thought they looked awful! The Royale is a much classier tractor! I drove a Navistar Flat floor Cabover for 6 yrs, That western star looking grille on the white truck actually takes away that generic look of the 90s Navastars!
  13. Coenut, Iowa80 is like a city of its own, always have a great collection of antique trucks, and accessories etc!
  14. Saw a bunch of really reasonable tandem dumps on E Bay yesterday ,I'll bet the prices change in the next couple days!
  15. Hat City so the truck only gets paid when the load gets to the dump site? During Andrew the trucks were backed up beyond the horizon! From the turnpike above Homestead and Cutler ridge you couldn't see the last truck! At every main intersection there was a tire service truck to repair the tires damaged by nails broken glass and assorted debris! So as I understand it how long you sat waiting to unload determined your income! Sounds like the brokers found a way to maximize their income and screw the o/o as usual! We're you in S Florida during Andrew? Lots of illegal profiteering! One dude brought in a reefer trailer full of bagged ice,at that time a bag of ice was about 1.50 he was charging 20.00! The cops caught him about half empty, made him give away the rest of the load!๐Ÿ˜ All the power was off and people's food and meat was spoiling! People were bringing in 53 ft trailers of those cheap k Mart generators, selling them for up to 500.00 each!
  16. Any of you own a tandem dump, tri axle, or dump trailer? During Andrew, which was mostly wind, every tandem dump in America suddenly doubled in price!, as long as it ran and dumped! And headed to Miami (no Dot checks during a disaster) were making 50 bucks an hr24 hrs a day! 25 years ago, mostly sitting in line waiting to dump debris! Rates have to be higher today! During Katrina, which was mostly water they needed dumps and wreckers to haul away inoperable vehicles! I talked to a towing contractor who spent several months there with three wreckers paid by the hr! I believe they contract with Fema or the local municipalities! If Harvey is as bad as it seems to be the local contractors won't be able to handle the volume! Opportunity only knocks once! I kicked myself in the butt during Andrew for owning a flatbed not a tandem dump! I made money hauling roof insulation to Miami but could have made ten times as much with a beat up tandem dump or tri axle!
  17. Thanks for the heads up Hobert I bought a spray can of Rust oleum, could spray it on then roll the harbor freight stuff on!
  18. Harry, I always found a parking spot at the McDonald's in Berkley Springs, one time I had to wait for a couple cars to move!
  19. Mack Tech, this can of rolling rock says it causes birth defects too, well I'm already born so I'm ok right?๐Ÿ˜ lol
  20. Just hit category 3!
  21. Saw a funny bumper sticker on a pickup yesterday "driver carries no cash, he's married!"๐Ÿ˜ I'll bet you. can't find a spot in the t.s. in Laredo on 35,!
  22. Saw a funny bumper sticker on a pickup yesterday "driver carries no cash, he's married!"๐Ÿ˜
  23. Gray hair, I'm looking at a video of the Corpus Christi coast the weather channel guy says it's getting worse! I'm glad your folks evacuated! I was thru new Orleans after Katrina and saw Homestead and Cutler ridge a couple days after Andrew, you have to see a hurricanes aftermath to believe the power ย of wind and water!

  24. Bobcot, mack did a lot of mixing and matching, every time I think I've seen all the combinations, another comes up!
  25. Hobert 62, I just realized that's spray on Bedliner on the fenders,I'm gonna do the cab floor on my pickup with that should hold up pretty well!
