Freightrain, my friend the drag racer from Warren Oh, used to haul oversized tanks, xerces and the like, well he's mt and a Ga DOT officer pulls him over for an inspection,he's been an outlaw his whole life, and his paper work is unreal! No tag on the tractor, drive away tags on the trailer (he's a trucking agent and they did driveways cab and chassis etc) Its pouring rain and the DOT man is exasperated "what do you haul on that thing anyway?" "I'm a snake farmer, and I haul snakes, tie em' down with the yellow straps" long pause... "You s.o.b.! Get the f...k out of here if I ever see you again I'll throw the book at you!"😁 From that day forward his cb handle was "snake farmer!"

Just a bunch of concrete statues! How much good could be done for humanity of all persuasions with the money spent on relocating them?!

Want to build a competition pulling truck
BillyT replied to tree98's topic in Engine and Transmission
How bout' adapting the ejection seat from a fighter jet, lol! Don Garlits might have an opinion about being on top of the engine! I too would lean toward preserving the truck! -
Freightrain, you're a drag racer, speaking of destruction have you seen the photo of the Willys gasser from the 60s with the crank, pistons, and nearly every reciprocating part visable in the smoke under the engine?😁 By the way my friend from Ohio says he has been watching you race your Ford wagon for years!

Heavy Gunner, never had the occasion to price one, but someone bought it! Would love to know what they were going to use it for! The seller said it would be a good farm truck,or could be used to pull a lowboy, I tend to agree,I've never seen any snow or ice in Memphis, certainly not in the salt belt!
-
Other rubber parts would need changed, and depending on whether it was run periodically and the brake system drained would be a concern. But what is a 427 block and powertrain worth? A perfect " hobby truck" If I didn't have other stuff going on I'd be on a plane! Most of the parts from late model Chevy would interchange! Take a look!

Members, it's not a Mack, but it's unique in a couple ways! Memphis Tn Craigslist 1988 Chevy single axle day cab 427,5and 2 speed 5 th wheel, set up like a city tractor stored inside, are you ready ? 11800 mi! 10000.00 ! From the photos pristine would be a conservative description of the condition! Sure you can get gas burners in average condition from 1000 up, but this is a new truck! You can read the factory chalk marks on the frame! Of course you'd have to hear it run and need a believable reason for the miles, the belts and

What a sweet B, bet that set of split duals sounds good!

I can't see the photo of the truck but the GM made "deuce and a Halfs" I saw at Ft Benning had 2 cycle Detroit's and I'm assuming Allison automatics. There was a noticeable pause between shifts and the driveline would "ring" as the shift was completed! They all did it, so I don't think it was wear. I was in a quartermaster company so I never got to see under one!

That A,car is a brute! I can picture it all fixed up! Grille is fairly unique! Like the double standard bumpers! MB, your old Overnite horse is cute! I used to live 3 miles from the old Overnite Meadowlands terminal in Washington county Pa. They had a bunch of the MBs with duplexes!

Hobert, I agree, pricewise depending on the age and condition of the tires and wheels, which could be worth much more!
-
OD,I used to cross Neville Island every day going to work in Mckees Rocks Pa! That MH driver with the drop deck has a lot of confidence in that one strap!

As always each of you has an excellent point! We are forced to live in a throwaway society! Having grown up (literally) in an auto salvage yard! I have a great respect for good used parts!my neighbor pulls a flatbed with a condo cab vision that doesn't look as good as those two! wtf! Even in the present state of mack reliability those two should have years left! During the last campaign to destroy vehicles that didn't meet certain emissions and gas mileage standards I watched them pour epoxy into low mileage engines that would interchange upwards into many of the new sport utility vehicles, pickups suburbans explorers etc! As several members pointed out no thought was given to the affect on the environment created by the production of new vehicles! Hybrid batteries require the mining of nickel and lead and the production of plastics for the case which is petroleum based, and on and on! As someone mentioned people who may be driving a paid for older car were now encouraged to turn the usable car in and go into debt with the rebate as a down payment on a car they couldnt afford and would soon be repossessed! I have nothing against New cars if properly maintained which will permit on average a usable life of 150000 to 250000 miles! Proper maintenance will support a number of industries....repair shops, auto parts stores tire stores and so on! The average motorist trades their car every 5 yrs. If they kept it even 2more yrs I believe the environment would benefit! Just noticed those visions are " cutoffs" which for all practical purposes makes them usable only for parts! Mack Tech just for laughs how does one "select" what creatures will consume the poison you set out! And if the "wrong creature" dies will you be prosecuted! I love California, if you could remove all those environmental wonks that make their laws it would be a great place to live!I agree,Teamster Grrrl! McDonald's runs a portion of their truck fleet on recycled cooking oil! I agree that that program may largely a rah rah advertising promotion, but it does have some merit! A major problem is that many Americans don't even think about repairing anything, it would never occur to them! The exception of course is farmers and rural folks(perhaps because they work so many hours for what they have they want it to last!) As solar panels become more economical they may at some point be a viable option for the average person, but the power company lobbies will fight it tooth and nail!

FWD,what a beautiful rig!

KSB, I've always thought this had possibilities! Our local electric utility uses natural gas in their trucks! I'm not an engineer but I realize the average gas engine loses up to 20 percent of its horsepower with a natural gas conversion, however it Is so clean burning that engines last longer and need fewer oil changes surely the engineers could find a way to increase the horsepower through various technologies! I have however wondered about the safety aspect, it being so explosive!

The union troops resting along the roadway to Appomattox courthouse when Gen Lee rode in to surrender came to attention and saluted him as he went by! A good man fighting for a bad cause!

Happy birthday guys!

Good stuff OD! They used to have a McDonald's Restaurant under the arch ,but they took it out! I delivered some guardrails to the NASCAR track in Bristol Tn went in on hwy 58! Won't do that again! Only 12000 lb but the trailer brakes were smoking before I got there had to sit for 45 min to cool them!

Farmer, your mh looks like the one I used to drive! 300,5 speed lo hole, best Cabover I've ever driven!

Just remembered an anecdote concerning maggots from my days in the mobile welding business! My best accounts were a couple of small refuse contractors! So In midsummer I go out to weld on the back of a garbage truck he picked up at ponderosa steak house two days ago! I roll out the cables, start the machine and walk back to the truck! The " sweep blade" was split open and packed with suet and maggots! The wind blew the aroma back in my face! I rolled up my cables, shut off the machine, and called my customer! "Take that $#?% to the car wash and pick up a couple "clean accounts" and call me in a couple of days! I welded the truck a couple days later 😁

Freightrain, I dropped a brand new ceramic towel rack holder yesterday on a tile floor and ended up having to reuse The repaired one I was trying to replace! So don't feel bad!
