Freightrain, my buddy from Warren wasn't at Norwalk, but he said he has watched you race the wagon for years! I was wrong his home track was Quaker City not Norwalk! -

Freightrain, they must run a lot of cabovers in Mexico and Central america, because in the early 2000s when I was running the west coast I would see flatbed trailers with several old Cabovers and usually one smaller cab and chassis and as many truck components as would fit! They cut the truck frames in half to avoid the import duty (they become truck parts instead of an actual truck!) Then weld them back together at their destination! For a long time they did what I called " Mexican tow bars" where they would tow as many as two cars behind a pickup or car ( junkers that came off the back lot of new car dealers) and sell them in Mexico or central America!

No McDonald's!

I just read that Takada and many of the manufacturers Ford for one were aware of the defective air bags as early as 2004! In one way I agree with Rowdy Rebel! My beloved 25 year old Isuzu pickup didn't have airbags to begin with! And I disabled every single piece of emissions b.s. and added a Weber pre-emissions carburetor (illegal in California!) And a catalytic converter free straight exhaust! I did however retain the pc v valve which is necessary for removal of crankcase fumes! The result is a vehicle with instant throttle response that starts on the 1st half turn! Having said that I do believe in air bags having been in the emergency towing business prior to the advent of air bags, and knowing their value! My wife's 2012 corolla, built in America and Canada is involved in the Takata recall! Toyota sent us a letter saying to not use the front passenger seat! There has been little concern by Toyota in my opinion to resolve this situation! One of my automotive publications, reported that they would " rent you a car" if you complained! After all we did buy a five passenger car! The only correspondence we receive from Toyota is several letters a year saying they suddenly have a need for 2012 corolla trade ins on a new Toyota this started when the car was a year old ! LOL

Nice B! -
Billy T, replied to Billy T! So after I got done being pi$$ed off I'm thinking dummy! If you had known about affirmative action you could have pretended to have been an Aleutian islander!,learn some facts etc they wouldn't have checked in those days! So having missed my ideal job I see a job hauling US mail for a contractor and I go to another counselor (a very pleasant professional young black lady) and she gets me an interview with the mail carrier, my road test is a one mile run in a 9670 "cornbinder" bobtail and I'm hired on the spot! ( shoulda known right!) So I make a couple regional runs on one the runs the air compressor literally falls off the engine right in front of the old Lawn plaza on the PA tpke and the brakes lock up! I managed to get it off the road when I see the air pressure dropping! On another run I'm dropping gears at the Indiana pa get off ramp off 119 and I see the drive shaft spinning thru the air in a slow arc and figured it would be a good time to get off on the shoulder! On my last run the supervisor calls me and says he has three tractors available, all 9670s one has a gear missing (10 speed 250 Cummins!) One has a bad alternator (mid winter at night)! And the third a tag axle, has one set of working brakes (on the tag) ! "Which one do you want?!" "I don't want any of them I reply!" "Do you want your job"! So I take the one with brakes on the tag! On my way to Philadelphia that night I passed three of their tractors broken down on the shoulder! It's snowing pretty hard and a motorist pulls right in front of me off the shoulder! I hit him ,not hard but his trunk won't close! So we tie his trunk shut and the trooper takes the report and I deliver in Philadelphia. The next morning I take a loaded trailer back to Pittsburgh and go home.when I go to pick up my pay the s.o.b.s are fixing the brakes on my tractor! I get my check and they fire me!😁 I go back to the Employment office and the same lady that got me the interview signs me up for unemployment! " no willful misconduct" was the verdict! All of this because I wasn't an Aleutian islander! So I decided I'd had enough trucking for awhile, and went to welding school on the GI Bill! I was of course at the time unaware I had diesel fuel in my veins !

KSB,I posted earlier, we should stick to trucks and forget politics! And I meant it! But as most of you are aware I have an anecdote to illustrate every situation! So here comes one! I'm in the Pa state employment office in Jan.1975 looking for a job! They were posted on microfilm in the pre computer days! So I see a job,hvy truck operator, full time temporary flood control project Carnegie pa, 6mos.experience. It looked like it was made for me! 8miles from home! So I go to the counselor,"can you get me an interview " The guy says "Thats affirmative action" you can't apply for that! Then he looks like he swallowed his tongue! What he meant was you can apply, but not being a minority you won't be hired! He then looks at me sideways "are you an Aleutian islander or native American?" And he names a couple ethnicities that aren't black! I answer no! "You can apply but you won't be hired" It was a government project so it had a 10 percent minority quota! So that's my introduction to reverse discrimination! More later, but it's lunchtime!

H-67 on Craigslist Albany, Ga.
BillyT replied to Stude nut's topic in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Stude Nut, I looked in Albany Ga Craigslist under hvy equip. And cars and trucks yesterday didn't see it! May have sold or I skipped past it accidentally! Why do they even bother posting such a poor photo? -
41, that 41 Chevy reminded me of the 48 fastback I had when I was 14! Only drove it on the property! One day I got off the school bus and walked to my car, noticed the hood was askew! Lifted it and it fell on the ground! The engine was missing! While I was at school my dad ran a load of scrap car bodies to the scrap yard and blew the engine on his 2 ton Chevy flatbed on the way home! He and the hired man pulled the 235 out of the truck and installed my 216! A step backward but it ran! What could I say he fed me with the money he earned! Where was the radiator on the fibrefab?

A lot of great stuff OD! Lots of memories too,I used to spend the night at the McDonald's in Berkley Springs!First time I saw a five window cab on an early Diamond T!
-
Mower man,I hauled two little reefer trucks into San Francisco two weeks before that quake in 89, crossed that bridge that fell into the bay! Crossed that bridge on I 35 in Minnesota that fell a week before it did! Makes you think!

Any of you guys see the aftermath of hurricane Andrew? Worst thing I've ever seen! Katrina didn't look nearly as bad,but it was water, and Andrew was wind! Some guy from Ocala brought a couple of rigs down to Homestead and Cutler ridge Florida and hauled away so much aluminum siding that he created a glut on the scrap aluminum market, and the price was so low it wasn't worth hauling away! I hauled roof insulation from La grange Ga to Miami for several months continuously! A lot of contractors got rich after Andrew and every disaster!

41,I like the od Dodge!

I took home almost all the marbles this weekend.........
BillyT replied to Freightrain's topic in Odds and Ends
Freight train Norwalk used to be my buddies home track when he ran NHRA, he's from Warren oh, he's with Cody Bayus IHRA team now.I'm gonna call him and see if he saw you at Norwalk I suspect he was there! -
Mack truck are those appliance wheels on the goat? Nice looking ride,I've always liked those wheels! Had a 53 commander coupe same model as truck shops, except a real p.o.s., 50 bucks painted od with a brush! 239 2 spd hydro ran good, but when you bottomed out at the bottom of a hill both taillights fell out and were hanging by the wire! Those were beautiful cars but tended to rust out badly in the "salt belt"!

We should all avoid politics and stick to the things we know best ! Trucks and mechanics!
